I've been trying to get 12/4 to 12/14 2008 for about a week now. Pop-Up/Tent sites is all that's available so far..... I didn't look real close, but I believe those were $46 - $56 a nite.

Edit: Actually, any of the holiday times, not even just Thanksgiving. I'm wondering if the rate differs depending on the holiday.

It is $99 during the Holiday Season, but Holiday season is only Decemer 19-31.

Thanksgiving falls during "Pre-Holiday Season".

The only price change I see is that the weekdays during the Thanksgiving weekend were moved up to the Fri/Sat rate.

If you look at my Price History Page, you will see that until "Pre-Holiday was created in 2005, Thanksgiving actually fell during "Value" season, the lowest price of the year. Probably why Pre-Holiday" was created.

So Thanksgiving rates went up 4 bucks. I think I can live with that. I really think we should clarify this thread, because I think a lot of people might get confused that they will be having to pay $99 bucks for all the different holidays.

Next time I'll be sure to do a bit more research before taking taking a rate increase to heart...lol.

Well, at least the additional charges aren't on top of the $99 bucks, I can live with that, although I am still wondering what they are.

Although, AuburnJen did say her rate was $74 bucks for July 4th, which matches up wtih tim5055 rates, so perhaps that $64 is already including the "additional charges". At least if that's the case for July 4th, I would imagine it's the same for Thanksgiving.

We were already talking about perhaps taking a day or two off next years Thanksgiving week, but maybe now we'll add a day or two!! lol

Actually, I worded it poorly on my we page. It's really not "additional charges", it's that those dates are slightly higher than the prices during the season they fall in.

As you can see from the Thanksgiving example aove, it's more like charging weekend rates during the week for a holiday.

I'll have to figure a way to re-word it so it is clearer.

Well, I just tried booking a campsite during Thanksgiving 2008 just to see the price it gave me, but it keeps on coming back booked for next year, this is online though.

Hey, I'm just glad it's not $99. I was about to say, I couldn't imagine them doing a $30 price increase in one year, not even Disney is that crazy.

I just was looking at tim's page again, campsite rates only went up, on average, 3 bucks a night. That's pretty much in line with what the Fort has done for a few years now, so actually, I don't think the rate change is that big of a deal at all. They normally go up a couple bucks a year, but that's how most hotels are.

Anyone staying during the holiday season was already paying $96 bucks a night, so this isn't some kind of massive increase for them. And there are still plenty of times where the Fort is only around $40 for a campsite, so I find it still to be extremely reasonable.

I myself am guilty of too much knee jerk reaction in this thread...lol.

Also, let's keep in mind that the Holiday Season is ONLY December 19-31st. That is the ONLY time that the rates are at $99, so for 50 weeks out of the year they are lower to much lower than that rate. I could kick myself for not doing more research, sorry for any misinformation I put out there.

I agree that the price increase for 2008 is in line with past yrs. The killer is for people like me that use to deliberately arrive in value season and extend the vacation into peak season. Its a big difference for Feb. going from $56 (preferred) to $90 night. Its going to be interesting to see how it affects the hundreds of snowbirds coming for Jan. and Feb. The whole month of Jan. is still value season with just a couple dollar increase on the 3 day MLK weekend. I predict this will make Jan. and the first 2 wks in Feb to get booked up quickly.

Well, the rate change from value to peak has always been quite signficiant, and something they've been doing for years. The new rates don't change much, only the prices have gone up a few dollars, so I don't think it will affect people that were always doing this, because the rate change only went up a few dollars.

People already were paying the large prices increase during the change from value to peak, I don't really see where there is a difference between this year and previous years, other than the weekend increase and Presidents Day increase. It's more, but not an enormous amount more.

there will be a fence.......out of state extended stayers on one side and short stay locals on the other.......

Oh, you're talking about how the period of stay used to extend. Ok, gotcha, I was thinking you were saying the rates didn't change that much before. You're right, it is going to be a change.

But let's not forget, this is how the industry normally runs (prices change nightly), and the majority of other hotels and resorts have been doing this for ages. Almost all campgrounds also do this, very few spread rates over time. In fact, Disney is one of the only resort areas that has allowed pricing to extend into other pricing areas. It hasn't affected all the other hotels, I doubt it will affect Disney much. Short term maybe, but long term they're just doing what every other hotel/resort/campground out there has been doing for years.

There was a lengthy discussion about this a few months ago, and pretty much the same still holds true. The new rate change mainly will affect long term campers, which is unfair, but it's good business for Disney. Long term campers probably don't spend as much money throughout Disney over their stay, compared to the amount of money short term campers would. Same goes for hotels and resorts. Disney almost had to make this change, they were just losing money leaving it the way it was.

You are exactly correct - the major impact is not the $2-4 daily increase. It is the policy change where you are now charged the nightly rate not the rate of the date you checked-in. Not allowing the check-in rate to carry over for the entire reservation is a MAJOR impact to those of us who stay longer than a week or two. Yes, it will not affect you "locals" as much.
