The announcement says the rates are in for 2008 for the Swan & Dolphin, however when you try to get a price quote, it keeps taking you back to 2007 Do you have to call?

It worked this time for me but there is no place to put in the teacher discount, so the rate is coming up at $284 a night, too rich for my blood!

I tried it and it worked. For the discount, there is a drop down menu that says "Check for Discounts", just click on that and then click the teacher one. I got $199 a nt for 4/27-5/3.

I must be checking on the wrong site! I clicked the ad on top of this thread for Swan/Dolphin but the only discounts I'm offered are AAA & Government which gives me rates of $300 a night! Help!

Government rates and teacher rates are the same, so you should be able to get an idea of what your rate would be from the S/D site. Then call the hotel directly or go through DU.

I punched in dates for Feb 08 and the quote they gave was $389 for Saturday and $512 for the rest of the week!!!! WHY, I wonder! That entire week is in value season and there are no Holidays. It can't be a "weekend rate" because then wouldn't that have made Saturday MORE expensive than the rest of the week? VERY STRANGE.:confused3

They probably have a big convention that week. Since it's a convention hotel, weekends are usually less than weekdays.

The rates are available up through 1 July 2008 only , so if you are trying to book dates after 1 July you will have to wait......

I don't think the Swan/Dolphin have the same dates for value season as Disney does. We are trying to book a room for the first week in February and after I put in the teacher discount we were only able to get two of our days...the rest were unavailable. That is a little scary since I thought the first week in February would be a less busy time.

No, unfortunately you cannot. The Swan/Dolphin are not Disney resorts. You still get some of the perks like the transportation, early entry into parks (not a good idea anymore), extra evening hours, etc., but no dining plan. We stayed at the Dolphin for Thanksgiving and loved it.

The Swan/Dolphin don't adhere to Disney's silly season-based style of reservations, rather they charge on a day to day basis based on occupancy and expected occupancy among other things. In the long run this is generally a better way of doing it because you can get a real advantage for going when they need reservations and you rarely have to pay rack rate (unlike Disney where you have to jump through hoops with codes and pins and AP rates and whatnot to get discounts on the rack rate). It looks as though Disney, however, might be moving more towards this kind of rates system for 2008.

To answer your question about the occupancy, I bet that there is a big convention during your stay. Since it is so far out, they are holding way more rooms at discounted rates than they probably will need making it hard to book in with a discounted rate. As you get closer to your date, I bet they will open up.
