Wally.....

You live in Boston, you do NOT root for a California team...

It's just not allowed!:confused3

I'll get a copy of the rule book to ya soon!:lmao:

Rulebook to not support the California corps….humm I must be the new guy, what page are you looking at.

We always root for the local Corps, Blue or Green!:worship:

Oh if Wally wants to root for the green team I say go for it!

I just dont like anything blue!

Devils, Coats, Stars, Knights.....

When I hear the word Blue I just want to shop for T-Shirts and Hot Dogs! :lmao:

Well Bluecoats did make a fan of me Saturday night....

I love this thread. Thanks to those who posted links to youtube. I'm a dancer (& dance teacher) who used to perform with my highschool marching band. *I have lots of band camp stories:) Anyhow, for a small ohio school, we had a great marching band and always went to state competition. I've danced on lots of stages in my life, but nothing compares to the feeling of dancing in front of a huge crowd in a stadium with a powerful band behind you! I have some great memories of being on the field with the sound from the band vibrating in my chest.

I really need to get to one of these shows. I see one near me in Toledo, but I'll be on vacation then. Maybe next year? My kids and DH would love it too, I hope.

Anyhow...Thanks for posting!!!!!:goodvibes

NO WAY!:sad2:
I'm all about restraint now that I'm in the dog house.

So you lost control, were restrained and now you're in the "dog house"?

That DOES sound like a wild time!

See this is exactly how I got in trouble yesterday morning -
someone set up a trap - I innocently stumbled in and prompty got my butt walloped. :guilty:
The monkey never learns.

Poor sad innocent monkey.

I'm not going to bash any of the corps, but I'm just not feeling any of the magic I used to feel when I'd watch DCI shows. I'm seeing a lot of repetition from recent previous years both musically and visually. It just seems like there's a lack of creativity going on right now. It's kind of sad because I used to be excited about going to shows throughout the season, but I have very little desire to go this year. :sad1:

Okay......I was going to rant about a couple corps in particular, but I stayed up all night and need to get some sleep.

I know the kids and staff members are working hard but something is just not right here.

Does anyone else feel this way?

hhmm I don't know how many corps you have seen this year, but I don't get that feeling at all. BD and Cavies both have original show concepts as far as I'm aware and so do the Blue Stars. Cadets...despite my opinion, are also using music and a concept that hasn't been used before and yet Crown is blowing socks off with their ode to the traditional.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me if corps reuse music or a show theme. Anytime a corps plays malaguena(and I don't care what corps it is) I'll be on my feet screaming. 1996 scouts ::drool:: probably my favorite drum corps show of all time. While I appreciate original music, I'm all for a crowd pleasing show full of recognizable music.

Tourette's!
I think we should take these little things I say
as if I have a DIS version of Tourette's.
I WANT to be good - I just can't.
Think they'll buy it? :rolleyes1

And why would you want to - punish the Monkey.
Be nice to the Monkey.
Poor demure maligned monkey. ::yes::

I'll admit, I haven't seen SCV at all (although I'm looking forward to it), and have only seen clips of Blue Devils so far.

I don't have a problem with reusing themes that have been used before for shows. Sometimes that can be a good thing. Thematically, I love what the Cavies are doing. (Have you seen their guard uniforms? Faaaa-bu-lous! ;) ) The taiko drumming is also a great touch. As a designer, artist and huge drum corps geek who tends to watch shows over and over once I get the Finals DVD, my problem is more with the drill design (or lack thereof) and guard equipment work. The majority of the top 12 corps have started to almost mimic what other corps are doing visually. Sure....the Cavies' visual programs were amazing and ground-breaking at the beginning of the decade.....but their visual programs have become repetetive and extremely predictble. (Try and count how many times the brass starts doing interesting curvy drill, but then goes straight to a block. Trust me, you'll lose count after about 10.) Since Mike Gaines has been such an influence in this activity, several other corps have started using similar visual programs. I want to yell, "Hey! Eyes on your own paper!" :rotfl2: Even west coast corps seem to be becoming similar to what the east coast corps are doing, and vice versa. And then there's the whole "scatter" problem, where we have about 5 different groups of guard members, all doing completely different things. Usually during this process the brass/battery are doing unrelated separately "staged" things as well. My question is this: "When a corps does this several times during a show, where is your attention supposed to be focused?"

Now, if we step back to the 90's, just about every top-12 corps had a very unique visual style. Even scattered staging seemed to have more of a visual purpose.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I'm just a "visual learner", and it's been bothering me. :)

1 Carolina Crown 87.400
2 The Cadets 87.050
3 Bluecoats 85.000
4 Boston Crusaders 81.000
5 Blue Stars 78.800
6 Crossmen 75.850
7 Spirit 75.350

I cant say how happy I am for the entire Crown organization! Wow!

Ok enjoy the ballad over coffee, bootleg video, but it gets it across.

But lets discuss the closer......

MonorailMan is right, its nothing new, in fact it's a complete rip off!

Every song, every drill move, every guard trick, all old stuff!

I :rotfl2: when I saw them walk over the guard!

I'll bet between the regular posters on this thread, we have marched at least 90% of this show! :lmao:

But it works! It's entertaining! I'm all for expanding the activity, but remember, it has to entertain people! It's drum corps, not a social experiment.

Everyone is saying Cadets have changed their ending and to watch out..

If I were Crown, I'd add a Bflat tuning at the beginning, and a Z pull at the end, and call it a day!:worship:

So what do you guys think?
