2008 Disneyland Half - Who's Going?

Wow, I can't believe that we are only 2+ months away.
We have flight reservations, hotel reservations, but I have not ordered park tickets yet.

Two Months, WOW, we have flights and room etc etc, Since we are there for such a short time we will for go the parks, need to rest for the races. Enjoy the expo and DTD, this will be very different for us.

I had my flight booked in April (thank goodness) and I have a hotel for Saturday night (Thurs and Fri will be at my aunt's house) I will try to get a ticket for one day at the park (I have never been) and maybe hang at DTD Sunday. I fly out late Sunday night.

WE STILL NEED TO FIGURE OUT A GOOD TIME AND PLACE TO HAVE A WISH MEET!!

I'll lay it on the line right here, right now!!!... Both Friday and Saturday at 7 pm, out in front of Jamba Juice in Downtown Disney.

(Sorry, I initially posted 5 pm, but it's going to be way too hot to meet at that hour.)

Sat. night would probably work better for me. But, I'm game for anytime. I know nothing about Disneyland so I can't offer any suggestions on any other place to meet.

I do have a question, though. Where can I eat the night before the race? Maybe some pasta? And please, don't suggest Disney's Pasta Dinner. That's one expensive dinner! I would expect a little wine with that meal and entertainment for that meal!

I will be there Friday night for sure and will try to stop by again on Sat! Sounds great. Thanks Jeff!

There are plenty of restaurants on Harbor Blvd., just outside the bus drop off/pick up area. Mimi's Cafe, Millie's, IHOP, Denny's, McDonald's, Tony Roma's, Subway, California Pizza Place. Many others.

Further down past the convention center, near the Hilton (South direction) there is a Joe's Crab Shack, Outback Steakhouse, Red Robbin, Coco's, Morton's. Lots of places in the vicinity.

If you have a car, in downtown Fullerton we've eaten at a good Italian restaurant called Florentine's Grill. http://florentinesgrill.com/

Shopping tip, there is a Disney Character Outlet store about 15 minutes away from the park. They sell park merchandise at pretty good discounts. May not be current stuff still being sold in the park, but it's still hip and trendy. In the past, I've found Half marathon expo merchandise a few months after the actual race. They carry lots of kids clothing, adult stuff as well. If you need pins for trading, I've bought them for like $3 vs. $8.95 in the park. Autograph books are like $3-4 vs. $8-10 in the parks. http://www.ams-liquidation.com/stores.htm

To get there, drive North on Harbor Blvd., into the city of Fullerton. Turn right at Orangethorp St., and turn right into the parking lot past Panda Express Restaurant. It's at the end of the building on the far left. Look for the blue sign "Character Outlet."

Got Disneyland questions, just ask, I just might know the answer.:thumbsup2

When I drive North on Harbor Blvd, there is a Ralph's Grocery near Lincoln Ave. Maybe 10 minutes drive from the park.

If you drive South on Harbor Blvd., past the convention center area, you get into Garden Grove, and there's a Target, and other grocery stores.

There is a COSTCO in Fullerton, on Harbor Blvd just past the Disney Character outlet store in Orangethorpe Mall.

If walking, there is a 7-Eleven at the corner of Katella and Harbor Blvd.

OK, I am starting my packing list today.

I have not flown since before 911, so I am sure that many people here can give me some tips about what I should take in my carryon and what I should check. I am on a direct flight (as far as I know). I kinda know about putting your 3oz liquids/gels in a ziplock bag and have out for the security check, taking off your shoes and put in bin, but that is all I know about that. Also, I guess I have to buy water and snacks after I go through security to take on the plane. Can I bring my own snacks??
I am going to try and do curbside checkin (JetBlue extra $2).
Any other hints, tips would be appreciated or things you think I should take with me.

1month and 25days until the DL 1/2!!!!

Tracy - Yes, you can carry your own snacks and I would suggest you do so as airlines are starting to charge for snacks (and maybe drinks) now.

Also, I don't know what type of luggage you will be bringing but you might want to check your airline's limits on number, size and weight. I say that because a friend of mine, who doesn't fly much, just bought a huge piece of luggage to take on a 3-week trip. She didn't want to take two pieces of luggage since the airline charges for the second piece but she forgot to take in the consideration for the size of the luggage - as well as the total weight for each piece. The airlines have really cracked down on this so keep that in mind.

The only other suggestion I have is to pack your running gear on your carry-on....just in case your checked luggage doesn't make it for some reason. A lot of people wear their running shoes on the plane. You don't have to pack all of your running stuff but I would definitely do the essentials.

Maybe someone else can chime in for tips. It sounds like you have it all under control. :)

See you in a few months...

Tracy,

UA allows up to 50 #'s in suitcase. We pack some snacks for the trip in it. I agree with Susie in carry on all race stuff and wear race shoes. You can always buy some things at DL but not race gear. I would either pack a sanwich from home(or from FL airport) for your trip west. Airlines do nothing anymore and sell snack kits for $10. Nothing substial for runners.

We like pop up meals but make sure no sauce as they will take them. You can bring some cup of ramon and get some hot water from the crew. Also, pack a water bottle and ask the crew to fill it.

Thanks for the suggestions I have gotten so far!! They will be very helpful and I am looking forward to anymore that people can give.

Susie: Hey girl, I'm booked for another night at the Candy Cane Inn. SO I will be there later Friday evening and Saturday evening. I figure that way I can get up Sat. morning and scream team at the finish for the 5Kers. I'll be there to pick up race packet and visit DL for the day. WISH meet at Jamba Juice 7pm Sat. night and the such. THis will also help my Aunt from having to drive me around and I won't need a car being right there near everything. I was thinking maybe there is a way they could put all of us staying at the hotel near each other or something, what do you think. I will be by myself so thought that would be a good idea.

Tracy

Hey Tracy, just want to echo what the others stated. I flew jetblue out to CA last year on a nonstop flight from Boston and they lost some of our luggage. How that happens I have no idea. It happened to be the girls' car seats which was a real pain in the a$$ because we couldn't drive to the hotel with out them. Anyhoo, I am planning on bringing my race gear on the plane with me and wearing my running shoes. I have to change planes this time, so I am not taking any chances.

When I flew to Boston last month I brought water bottles with me and just emptied them out in the trash before security and brought the bottle through. Then I found a water fountain and filled them back up. I like to always have something to drink with me and this worked great. I always bring snacks too.

Wow, I can't believe we already need to be thinking about packing!!

Hmmm, just curious...how far is everyone running these days? With a little under 2 months left to train how is everyone doing? I hate to admit, but I haven't even started running yet. I just went back the gym this morning (after a month lay off) and I plan on doing some light jogging tonight...maybe:rolleyes1 ....but I have been doing a lot of road biking and my cardio is up to par...I just need to get some miles on my new shoes.

Yes, pack all your running gear in a carry on...just in case.

Tracy - sounds good to me. We will be arriving Thursday evening. I can't remember when Pat and Jim arrive. You are more than welcome to go out to eat with us or hang with us - whatever. :teeth: I can ask when we check in if you can get a room close to us. Also, we can all walk together over to the race start if you are interested.

Girl, I'm right there with you. :rolleyes1 I have been riding my bike but not a whole lot. I've GOT TO GET BUSY AND START TRAINING!!!! I'm getting way too relaxed about this training business. If I keep this up, I'm not going to finish and get that extra medal. If that happens, I'll be kicking my rear end all the way back to Arkansas! UGH!

Running is going pretty slow around here right now. I hurt my knee at TaeKwonDo class about 2 weeks ago, so I stuck to swimming in the re-coup time. I was up to jogging for a 45 minute stretch at a time. DH and I did take the whole family on a 5.8 mile walk 2 nights ago - got to say walking with kiddos takes much longer than when it is just adults (or maybe I just walk fast). :goodvibes

So, was planning to get back to the real training this week, but this heat wave may slow that down to inside running only. We'll be down at DL this next week for a TKD event at the convention center, so maybe that will give me the added inspiration to get back to running. :yay:

Jim and I arrive Friday in LA Friday morning. We are at the CCI Fri, Sat, and Sun nights. We will be easy to find - our door and window will be decorated:cool1: :cool1: We don't have any definite plans, but count on us walking over to the race start Sunday morning. We can't wait!!
