2008 Cruise Points?

OK I am back in this since I am the OP. Anyway, I just did the calculation. I want to do the 3 night at the end of September 2008, OK using 2007 as a reference I could have my family go for 189 points. I could pay between 1200-1300 for the cruise saving me about 50 points and I would not have to borrow from 2009. So renting is the best bet for me. OK but now I have to wait until when to start advertising to rent 2008? Even then I can't ask for a deposit as large as I need for the cruise deposit can I? Thanks for any help.

For anybody who's interested in 2008 cruises & didn't see the announcement yet - they just announced the rest of the '08 schedule... The Magic is going back to the West Coast to sail out of LA to the Mexican Riviera again. Booking will start Jan. 31....I would assume new DVC pt. charts for '08 cruises should follow too...

I'll throw my 2 cents in on why we have chosen to pay cash instead of points.

1. Been on 3 cruises with DCL all on cash. Compared cash/points and cash was cheaper, and we got stateroom credit on our 7 day. We rebook on board and get the discount and $200 staterooom credit.

2. Cancellation policy. Your points are instantly transformed into reservation points when you use them to book a cruise. Reservation points can only be used at Non-Dvc resorts and those resort nights start in the 40 point range/night unless you are camping.

3. Cabin choice. We are able to book cruises when they open up and that gives us our pick of where to stay. How many have booked SPH cabins on points? They are normally all gone by time DVC gets the schedule and points posted although that has improved since they opened up the 2 year booking window.

Not saying that I would never use points, but so far cash has given us the most flexibility and choice. If my points were distressed or in jeopardy I would use them to cruise in a heartbeat.

Yes, I thought maye I had seen your movie, Annie!

Seriously, often the cost of a cruise is more than $10 x the number of points. While it is easier just to use points, it can be more economical to rent.

I'd suggest you figure out how many points you'd need once the charts are out. Then rent that number of points and immediately apply the money to a cruise booking. It may very well give you some extra cash to spend on the cruise (and you'll probably need it!).

As for when, I suspect the points will be out shortly after next Wednesday, when it is expect Disney will announce the west coast cruises for 2008.

Can someone tell me where I can find DVC point charts for DCL, even for 2007?

Thanks very much! :)

You can view all of the point charts on the dvcmember.com site!! They're available for everything that they're currently booking for (look under that little Member Resources box on the right side of the screen - it's the first item on the list).

Found it! Thank you so much, I didn't even think to look there!
