2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

W3D1 today! It wasn't as bad as I thought, and I definitely felt challenged, so it was a good run/walk. Looking forward to the rest of the week, and might repeat this week if I don't feel up to W4.

If U Had Wings, I'm sorry to hear about your knee. Definitely let it heal before you start up again. I made the mistake of not taking a shoulder injury seriously enough years ago, and it still bothers me. :(

Congrats to everyone for completing their weeks!

I'm still relaxing my kneed, hoping it feels back to normal again soon. I haven't done any running/aerobics since last Thursday when it was feeling like it was going to buckle everytime I walked down some steps. It's feeling much, much better but I want to be sure not to reaggravate it. Talking to a friend whose had multiple knee problems he said it sounds like I probably tore something. I'm not getting the pains anymore, it's just feeling very stiff and I'm still favoring my other leg when I walk.

It's begining to drive me nuts though not being able to do any exercising. I've been so active the past two months or so I'm hating not being able to do so without pain. I did go to my yoga class last night, and just avoided anything that bothered my knee. Oddly enough the only thing that really bothered it all night was when we did hip circles.

Hi If U Had Wings - I totally understand your frustration and I am sorry that you are having to deal with your knee. I am glad it is feeling better and hopefully soon you will be able to start C25K again. I had started C25K over a year ago and then I did something...not sure what to the outside of my foot/ankle and I could hardly walk. I tried to fight through the pain at first because I was determined to do the C25K program but I eventually had to give up because I literally would have to crawl around my apartment at night and I have a high pain tolerance. This time around I have not experienced the pain. Resting and letting it heal sounds the best advise and seems like it might be helping. Sending good thoughts your way!

Thanks. I went and picked up a compression sleeve for it last night, and it seems to be helping (even though the stupid thing keeps sliding down and bunching around my knee. I didn't get any of that "about to give way" feeling at all walking down steps today. I'm debating whether or not to try a run tonight or hold off until tomorrow. If I hold out until tomorrow it will be a week that I've been resting it. Normally I have my aerobics class tomorrow, but I overslept and wasn't able to get in. :sad1:

I'm going stir crazy wanting to get out and do some exercise!!

Did week 5 day 2 today. My friend downloaded the app for your iphone but didn't hear the chime on the last 8 minute run. I finally said it has to be over and stopped running. Turns out we went 10:30 instead. Which is good, I did it. But now I really think there is no way I will make it through the 20mins of Friday. I couldn't go any further.

I still can't imagine running for 8 minutes straight. Those 60 secs. still wind me.

My knee is feeling great today, so I'm looking forward to going out when I get home today. I'm going to wear the brace all day today just to be on the safe side. I can't wait!

I thought the same thing. I was so freaking out (I think I am dating myself with that statement :) ) about the 20 min. run but I did it and I know you can do it too! :thumbsup2

Glad to hear your knee is feeling better! Looking forward to hearing how it goes tonight! I was right there with you being winded during the 60 sec runs and I am still winded during the 30 min runs. I tried not to look too far ahead in the program because when I did I would totally physic myself out.

I did W9D1 yesterday and I am just amazed that I have been doing this for 9 weeks and that I am on the last week. When I started I really didn't think I would stick with this to the end but not only have I stuck with it I can run 30 min. It's a struggle but I can do it! My plans are to continue with the 30 min. runs for a couple more weeks and then I will start running for distance until I can comfortably run a 5K. Not sure what my plans are after that but I will continue running!

Have a great day everyone!

I must be dating myself too, because I read that and thought nothing of it. :rotfl:

:lmao: Now it's more like freakin and it stands for something different than what freaking meant when I was growing up!

Hey all! Had to come in to let you know about my milestone run today. I had one day where I pushed myself for speed and did 2.5mile in 32 min... which was great! But after that things kind of fell apart. I missed some days and then tuesday I only got through a mile (and i had to walk for like 30sec in the middle). I think I was trying to go too fast.

Anyways, I set out today at a comfortable 4.3 mph intent on getting my 2.5miles in... but I pushed myself to 3.1! Yup - I did my first official 5k, on the treadmill at least! Now I feel like I really graduated

W3D2 today! I am comfortable this week, and am seeing next week as my possible repeat week. 3 minutes is comfortable, but 5 may not be. We'll see!

My friend and I were talking yesterday about how we couldn't believe just 5 weeks ago we were struggling to run 60 secs and now we are doing 8 mins. Still struggling but doing it. And it really doesn't seem like it has been that long. Tomorrow is the big day for 20, I figure I'll go as long as I can then walk as short as I can and start again. Who knows many some miracle will take place and I"ll do it all.

That's fantastic! Congrats.

You give me hope that I will get better at this! Last week I did W1D1 and then injured my knee. I started over today and those 60 seconds seem so long to me. I did feel a small difference. I few of the segments I felt I could run a bit longer, and I wasn't as beat at the end of the run. I just find it hard to believe that at the end of this I'll be running 30 minutes straight.

My big problem today is that the route I took was a bit too hilly. I went over it in my head before hand, but there were a few hills I forgot about. Whew those hills are killers. I tried to time it out so I'd be walking on them as much as possible. I think I have a route near the beach that will be flatter.

Hi all, here's my update for the week...

On Monday I began week 9 and it went great! I jogged 3.1 miles at 5.1mph. Then I did my cool down walk and I just wasn't ready to get off the treadmill yet. So I jogged again (at 5.2) for a few minutes. Then did my cool down walk again. In all I went 4.5 miles!! That's the farthest I've gone so far and I did feel it over the next day, but was fine.

On Tuesday I came down with a cold and it really wiped me out. I felt awful on Wed. and couldn't be up and around much, let alone workout.

Thursday came and I still felt bad but I couldn't stand the thought of not working out for 3 days in a row (during this whole process the longest I've gone is 2 days). So I got myself on the treadmill... Oh it was awful! I never got into a rythm, it was a struggle the entire way through. I managed to do my 3.1 miles (at 5.1) but towards the end I began to feel nausea and had to push myself to the end. I started my cool down walk but just couldn't stand it anymore and had to get off and lie down on the floor. I crawled around the floor to cool down! LOL My 3 yr old thought it was funny as did my dh when I told him later. So then I started to do my stretching and even that didn't feel right, my body was just, well, sick.

THEN, later in the day yesterday my left ankle started to hurt... I know that my form was bad on the treadmill yesterday and I was dragging myself, so I think I messed up my ankle a bit. :sad2: I started limping last night and am today. I'm trying to not use it as much so it can heal and I can hopefully do my LAST C25K workout this weekend.

I'm feeling pathetic right now. Sick, sore ankle...this isn't how I wanted to complete this program. lol But, I know I'll feel better and get back into the swing. I've got my first 5K planned for May 16th, so I have 3 more weeks to get myself ready for it!

That's GREAT Tiffany!! :goodvibes:thumbsup2

Wow, that's great you were able to finish. I know I would have just been curled up on the couch taking a nap if I felt sick.

I finally got around to uploading yesterday's workout from my Nike+ sensor and was shocked to find that it looked like one straight line, no bumps. Either it wasn't working correctly, or I run so slow that it's just about the same speed as my walking. :rotfl: It registered the mileage and time correctly so I'm guessing I'm just a really slow jogger.

My first time out I had bumps, but my knee was bothering me that day so my walks were a bit slower than normal. This time - one straight graph line.

You put me to shame! You run faster and farther than I do on a good day! Hope you fell better soon and you'll be ready for your 5K in May!

Glad you were able to make it out!

I finished W9D2 today and I was happy that I ran 2.25 miles in 30 min and although it is never easy it was really not too bad. I never really struggled with my breathing like I normally do and I was really very happy with the outcome. One more running day :banana:and I will be finished with the program but I won't feel that I've really finished until I can run 3.1 miles! Next week I am going to work on running 2.5 miles and then see how that goes and maybe move up to 3 miles in a week or so.

Have a great weekend everyone!

W3D3! I am so happy I've made it this far!

Good job everyone for sticking with it!

I didn't make the 20 minutes.:sad2: I made it 12 mins, then walked for 2 then went as far as I could again, which was 7 long horrible minutes, then walked for 2, then 3 minutes to get back home. I was disappointed that I didn't make it, but still doing much better than I would have ever thought.

I think the key is, I need to get in some kind of cardio on the off days, 3 days a week is not enough.

DONE!! I did it, I completed the C25K program today! :)
W9D3: 5.2mph for 3.1 miles=35m45s.

My ankle was feeling better though still hurt. And actually it's more on the top of my foot than my ankle now. But I really didn't want to wait another day and it did feel somewhat better so I decided to go for it (was that the right decision or not, I don't know). I felt it with each step but towards the end I didn't feel it much. I think I've realized that part of the problem is the shoes I use on my treadmill are not as good for me. I overpronate and they aren't good for that. The ones I use outside are good for that though.

I'm going to stick around on this thread until after I complete my first official 5K on May 16th. My dh and I drove the course yesterday and it has some big hills! I jog on hills here in my neighborhood but I think these are bigger and longer. So it's going to be an interesting experience in a lot of ways for me!

cwnhokie, you did great!! I mean you jogged for 12 minutes, then walked just a couple, then jogged 7 more, that's wonderful! (And if I'm reading correctly you walked a couple then jogged 3 more as well?) You're doing better each week that passes and that's what matters. You'll get to that 20 minutes (and 30 minutes), keep it up and you will get there!
Also, I felt that I needed to workout more than 3 days a week as well, so I started doing more than that. More jogging that is. I felt better doing more each week.

Keep it up everyone!!

Congratulations!!!!! It must have felt wonderful.

I did my W1D2 this morning. I got up early and drove over to my old high school's track and ran there. I had to drag myself out of bed, and I don't know if it was because of that, or because it was actually hot out but I had a horrible running day.

I made it through the entire run, but barely. When I finished my second to last interval I was beat, but I forced myself to do the last one. I was literally gasping for air by the end of the run. It was 10xs worse than my previous outings. I was suddenly hit with the memory of every horrid run I was ever forced to do in gym class where I was always gasping for air and had a stitch in my side. I don't know why I felt so much worse today than my previous workouts.

I've been dragging all day today so who knows what's going on with me. I'm just feeling a bit discouraged that today went so horribly. I have one more run before I decided if I need to repeat week 1.
