2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

So, I wogged a 5K, Komen Race for the Cure, today. Time, 43:10. I was actually pretty happy with that since I did W3 about 3 weeks ago and nothing else.

I have committed to the half next year, and man, I need to train!!

Good job everyone for sticking with it!

I didn't make the 20 minutes.:sad2: I made it 12 mins, then walked for 2 then went as far as I could again, which was 7 long horrible minutes, then walked for 2, then 3 minutes to get back home. I was disappointed that I didn't make it, but still doing much better than I would have ever thought.

I think the key is, I need to get in some kind of cardio on the off days, 3 days a week is not enough.

You did great! You basically did run the 20 min. but with short walks! Look how far you have come! You'll get it next time. I remember after I did the 20 min. run I thought that the next run would be so easy...I think it's run 5 min. walk 3 run 8 min. walk 3 run 5 min. but anyway how hard could running 5 min and 8 min after I had run 20 min. WRONG...I could not do it and I was so frustrated. I didn't even count that day but I was determined and went out the next day and did it! Next time you'll do it!

DONE!! I did it, I completed the C25K program today! :)
W9D3: 5.2mph for 3.1 miles=35m45s.

My ankle was feeling better though still hurt. And actually it's more on the top of my foot than my ankle now. But I really didn't want to wait another day and it did feel somewhat better so I decided to go for it (was that the right decision or not, I don't know). I felt it with each step but towards the end I didn't feel it much. I think I've realized that part of the problem is the shoes I use on my treadmill are not as good for me. I overpronate and they aren't good for that. The ones I use outside are good for that though.

I'm going to stick around on this thread until after I complete my first official 5K on May 16th. My dh and I drove the course yesterday and it has some big hills! I jog on hills here in my neighborhood but I think these are bigger and longer. So it's going to be an interesting experience in a lot of ways for me!

cwnhokie, you did great!! I mean you jogged for 12 minutes, then walked just a couple, then jogged 7 more, that's wonderful! (And if I'm reading correctly you walked a couple then jogged 3 more as well?) You're doing better each week that passes and that's what matters. You'll get to that 20 minutes (and 30 minutes), keep it up and you will get there!
Also, I felt that I needed to workout more than 3 days a week as well, so I started doing more than that. More jogging that is. I felt better doing more each week.

Keep it up everyone!!

YAY Liz!!! :woohoo: You must be so thrilled I know I am for you! I am glad that you will continue to post here for a while longer because we started this at the same time and I will miss everyone when it is time for us to move on!

You still did great. I can't even imagine running 12 minutes in a row. It will come with time. :)

Congratulations!!!!! It must have felt wonderful.

I did my W1D2 this morning. I got up early and drove over to my old high school's track and ran there. I had to drag myself out of bed, and I don't know if it was because of that, or because it was actually hot out but I had a horrible running day.

I made it through the entire run, but barely. When I finished my second to last interval I was beat, but I forced myself to do the last one. I was literally gasping for air by the end of the run. It was 10xs worse than my previous outings. I was suddenly hit with the memory of every horrid run I was ever forced to do in gym class where I was always gasping for air and had a stitch in my side. I don't know why I felt so much worse today than my previous workouts.

I've been dragging all day today so who knows what's going on with me. I'm just feeling a bit discouraged that today went so horribly. I have one more run before I decided if I need to repeat week 1.

I have had days exactly like that! I have been so frustrated questioning my choice to do this program and to become a runner. But I am stubborn and strong headed and I don't give up easily so I pushed on and it has been so worth it. So know that the kind of day you had - we've all had those days - you are not alone!

So, I wogged a 5K, Kormen Race for the Cure, today. Time, 43:10. I was actually pretty happy with that since I did W3 about 3 weeks ago and nothing else.

Way to go! That is a great finish time! I want to find a Susan B Kormen Race here to do. I always participated in one when I lived in Colorado because I had a good friend you had breast cancer and is no longer with us. I used to always walk them but next time I'm going to run it!

Ok, so today I did W9D3 but I am not going to say that I am finished until I complete 3.1 miles! The longest run without walking that I have done is 2.25 miles but I am very happy and excited that I committed to this and actually completed the running weeks. And today's run was the best run I have had...I felt great and didn't struggle with breathing like I normally do and I may have been able to run longer but we were going to the L.A. Festival of Books and I knew I wouldn't have time to run longer and also have a cool down.

Are you all ready for the week? I would really like another weekend day but off to work I'll go. Have a great week everyone!

Thanks. I came home feeling so discouraged about what I did today. I just feel like the worlds worst wanna-be runner. I never expected this to be easy (I've never run before in my life), but I was hoping to improve a bit faster. Tomorrow is yoga class, and then Tuesday night I'll make my next run. I'll decided then wether to repeat week 1 or not.

That's great! so close to the 3.1 miles. :cool1:

Hi all! :wave2:

I officially started C25K today!! (I attempted to on Saturday morning but hadn't eaten enough and felt awful after like 7 minutes so couldn't run anymore!

But today I did all the running I needed to and it was amazing!!! It was pouring with rain by the end but I couldn't believe I managed to do all the 60 second intervals without stopping, and even went over the 60 seconds a couple of times as I felt so fine!

(Although I did get a bit woozy when I stopped!)

I was convinced I wasn;t fit enough for week one, but I am so pleased I did it, although my jogging was so slow I only covered just over a mile in 20 minutes, but I'm still pleased!

Already looking forward to Wednesday's run!!! :teeth:

Welcome! Sounds like your off to a great start. I'm just finishing up my first week. I had done one day and then had to take off a week due to a knee problem so I'm just going to repeat that day. In the rain and everything. Very impressive!

Thank you!

I know it sounds funny but I'm not sure if the rain kinda helped....I quite liked it!

If U Had Wings~ Thanks. :)
We all have those kind of days, I had some during this process that's for sure! You will be ok, just keep going and you will get better.

Kat~ I wondered what happened to you! Congrats on the 5K, that's great! And very cool about doing the half, I'm right there with you!!

Vicki~ Thanks. :)
Congrats on making it through Week 9!! Can you believe we made it through the past 8 weeks since first posting and are HERE?! I know you want to go further but you've done so well already. I'm happy for you and I know you'll reach your goal soon!

torsie~ Welcome!! I'm glad you decided to post here. Congrats on beginning the program, sounds like you had a great first workout! Woohoo! Keep it up!

Nothing to report for me today, no running but plan to tomorrow. Foot still hurts but not as badly..I think it's getting better. Have a good one all!

DONE!! I did it, I completed the C25K program today! :)

Woo hoo!!! Congrats!!!! Looking forward to hearing about the 5k!

W4D1 today. It was definitely hard, and I might repeat this week. I ran/walked exactly as defined in the schedule, but I was going s-l-o-w!!!

Would love to run a 5k in June, but not sure if that's too soon. We'll see. :)

Hello again everyone! :wave2:

Hope you're well! I'm really looking forward to my W1D2 tonight!

I have a couple of questions:

1- Do you count the 5 minute warm up walk in the 20 minutes of do you do the 5 minute warm up and then 20 minutes for running/walking?

2-For those of you that do every other day (as I am going to do) do you jsut have some weeks with 4 workouts and some with 3, or do you move on to the next step after 3 workouts? (I only plan on moving up a level when I feel I can really do the current week well)

I think my whole workout usually works out to be about 30-35 minutes. I usually have to add on a bit of extra walking though to get back home again. I still haven't mastered pacing it exactly.

I've been meaning to do every other day, but I usually end up with one point in the week that I take 2 days off in a row. I still have a few more weeks of Monday night yoga so I take that as an off night and then Tuesdays I usually have meetings at night so depending on my energy level and what time I get home I usually take that night off too. Sometimes I miss a different day instead, but I usually do some kind of cross-training on that day if I do. I'm still only doing the 3 days a week at this point of actual running and then 3-4 days of other exercise.

Me again :wave2:

I just finished W1D2 about 40 minutes ago. LOVED it! I think it helped a lot that it's lovely and sunny today! I also changed it fro last time as I only did 5 walking 15 running then cooldown so today I did 5 walking then 20mins running (well 60secs run/90 jog) and then even was so happy that I was far enough from home to do another 60sec jog on the end for good luck.

I never ever thought I'd enjoy any type of excercise, let alone running, now I can't wait until Friday!! :teeth:

Hope you're all doing well!

That's great congrats!

I'm going to attempt to start week 2 day. We'll have to see how that goes. I'm really not looking forward to going out today. I enjoyed my first two runs, but I felt truly horrible after Sunday's day 3. I'm very scared that it will be that horrible again. I wasn't even pushing that hard and at the end was just gasping for air. The walk periods just weren't long enough for me to recover. If I find I can't do it, I'm just going to go back to week 1 until I'm comfortable.

I'm going to try to run a different route tonight. The track on Sunday felt the best, but it was a bit dull. The good thing about the track was that will all the markings on the track it was easy to find myself points to drive myself to reach. I'd keep telling myself just get to that start line, and then when I'd get there I'd try to get to the one after that. I think a run near the beach is what I need today.

Wow! I wish I could run near a beach!! Very lucky!! I think I might get bored of my road pretty soon!

I can't wait to see how hard I find the 90 seconds. I certainly am glad when the 60 are up at the minute. I hate it when you look down and have only done like 17 seconds and your leg muscles are hurting already, it was like that on my 3rd interval today.

I'm in a bit of a slump, I haven't ran since Friday. I'm supposed to be on Week 6 this week, but it was too hot and I tried to wait until after the kids went to bed, but it turns out that is not a good time for me. I'm exhausted by then and it's the only time DH and I have together since he doesn't get home until late. Now today it's raining. I'm very disappointed in myself and hope I haven't undone all the progress I've made.

Hang in there torsie24 and If U had Wings, you will surprise yourselves. I never thought when I started 6 weeks ago I would ever be running 5, 8, 12 minutes at one time.

W4D2 today. Kind of hard, though I did feel that it was 5% easier than D1, lol. I am looking forward to D3 and to see how much progress I feel. Looking back, I didn't think I would've been able to do this 4 weeks ago, so overall am very happy. :thumbsup2

I'm so glad I went out when I got home today and did W2D1 instead of repeating W1D3. I was able to run the 90 seconds with no real problems at all. The first interval went so easy I was pretty shocked. ( I was running a bit downhill, but still was surprised). The hardest interval for me was probably the 5th one. My legs were beginning to feel a bit heavy during that one. The last interval felt better. No gasping for air today.

I did try to slow it down today (if it's possible for me to get slower), but really I think the difference was the temperature outside. It was gorgeous today. Comfortable and just enough chill in the air so I never felt too warm. I'm thinking that the heat and humidity really effected me on Sunday. What I'm going to do all summer I'll have to see. My pace came out to about a 15 min. mile. I had a smile a mile long on my face when I was done today. I had been dreading my run because of the experience on Sunday and was so happy I was able to do it. I can't tell you how shocked I am that I was smiling and happy because I was running. :) I don't know what came over me.

I was feeling so energized when I was done that I went for a 2 mile walk. It felt good, but by the time I got home my arms where freezing. I think I get the point of arm warmers now.

I really enjoyed the run near the beach today. We don't have super beautiful beaches here in CT, but they always bring me a certain sense of peace. I'm definitely going to me using this route again. Other than one hill (that I ran down once, and then saved to walk up during the cool down) it was nice and flat, very little traffic, and had interesting things to look at.

I don't know what it was today, but the 90 sec. runs felt shorter to me than the 60 sec. ones did last week. I don't get it, but I'm not going to complain. Maybe it was the 2 min. walks that helped. My fifth interval was the hardest one. I guess with the 6th you know the end is near helping to make it a bit easier. I usually find that it's my breathing that is stopping me, more than my legs.

Maybe your body is just trying to tell you it needs a rest. Even if you need to go back to week 6, you'll still get there just in your own time.

Yeah!! Definitely worthy of a dancing banana...or two!:banana:

scrump~ Thanks :)
You may be ready for that June 5K, stick with it!

torsie~ 1) I did not count the 5 minute warmup walk in my times. I really didn't know what the rule was but I figured I'd not count it and it would make me work a bit more each time.

2) In the beginning I did only 3 workouts per week. Then I started doing more than 3 workouts per week but I would not count the extras towards the C25K plan. So I'd still do my official C25K workouts 3 days per week, and anything else was extra.

cwnhokie~ You'll get back into it. :goodvibes
I do my workouts in the morning for the most part, sometimes early afternoons at the latest. I am pooped by the end of the day so I don't think I could handle working out at that time at all. Could you do mornings maybe??

If U Had Wings~ That's so great!! I smile too when I have those great runs, and feel that sense of accomplishment! It is really a wonderful feeling. :goodvibes

As for me, today I ran 4 miles non-stop. woohoo! It was strange, I was feeling my usual way, not bad but not "this is easy" or anything, UNTIL I got past 3 miles. Then I just fell into this great rythym and the time absolutely flew by to 4 miles. It was cool.

Well I finally went out today after being off since Friday and it was horrible. I don't know if it was a combination of being off so long and having to push the stroller because DS was with me (I was determined to go, so I had to take him)

It was week 6 so I was supposed to do jog 5, walk 3, jog 8, walk 3, jog 5. I did jog 5, walk 3, jog 4, walk 3, jog 3.

Oh well, try again tomorrow.

Wow! Well done though!! That's pretty impressive with a stroller!

That's great. I can't wait to fall into a rythym. I still feel like I'm counting the moments between light posts.;)

I give you so much credit for running with a stroller. I don't think I'd be able to do it.
