2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

Liz - Woo Hoo! We are both doing the half! I would think either way would work. Do you plan to run the whole half? If so, I might shoot to run a lot slower...or do you plan to run/walk...if so, you might want to run faster as you run and then walk? I don't know...I can't wait to hear the experts weigh in!

Jenny - I may be doing EE in Sept! I am still trying to talk my friend into doing it! She is battling injuries right now, so it is not a good time to ask her. :rotfl: I am not sure if I will go to Disney and do it if I have to do it by myself. It seems like a team sort of race. :confused3 So glad you are joining us!

Graceesmom - Welcome! :) I can't believe I am as far as I am either! You can do it! I only wish I had only 10 pounds to lose. :sad2:

I was not able to finish the whole thing tonight. I probably should have pressed on...but I did the bike a few minutes, then the elliptical...then I had my program running and it stopped midstream on me...then I started getting shin splint sort of pains...so when I dropped my iPhone the second time, I got frustrated and just stopped. But, I did feel good doing as much as I did! I probably stopped about 20 min into it.

Hi Jenny, welcome! Congrats on beginning the program!!! :thumbsup2 I know how wonderful that feels. 2.15 miles is awesome, keep it up! That's a beautiful picture in your sig! :)

graceesmom, welcome to you too! :) Isn't it great how motivating it is?! I haven't exercised regularly in several years, and although I was hopeful, I had NO idea I would love this as much as I do. Keep us posted!

maroo, thanks! I haven't registered yet for the half, but I am pretty sure I will. I'm giving it a little more time... As far as how I'll do it, I don't know. I know my friend who has been running for several years and has done a couple halfs doesn't run the entire thing...so based on that I can't imagine I'll be able to.

I wish I could do the EE or one of the other runs in WDW this fall!! I'm going to need a 10K or 13K to do around then (I think-still unsure about all this! lol)

I am still trying to decide which fall race to do.

I am definitely doing EE if Lisa will do it with me. We would stay at the AKL and make a trip of it!! Which would be fun! Girls trip!

But, if she can't go, then I would be more likely to want to do the 10K or 13K. I might lean toward the 10K because it would be more during the value season? Since it doesn't matter to me. But the 13K would be good, too...for the experience of the longer race. I did go to Disney solo in Feb and am not too excited to do Disney solo again, though.

Then I also have the opportunity to go to the Night of Joy events, too...maybe as a volunteer...so that sounds good, too! But no race to do with that trip!

But I can only do one of these things. I am just waiting for my friend Lisa to decide what she wants to do! :goodvibes

Anyone else out there planning on a fall race? :)

W5D1 is done! I was not as nervous at the thought of running only 5 min. intervals as I had been last week alternating 3 min and 5 min. I was thrilled that I was able to do it! I had forgotten my stopwatch so I only had the podcast to guide me which might have been for the best! The 2nd 5 min. interval seemed to go on forever and I really wanted to walk but I just kept telling myself if you walk early you are only cheating yourself so I kept running...I ran extra after my last 5 min. interval not a lot but extra to get around the park faster. It was windy too which at times I felt I couldn't catch my breath but I concentrated on breathing deep and it helped.

I leave tomorrow for Orlando it's not exactly a vacation but we do get to go to the parks on Sat. and Sun.! :yay:

CoMickey - Las Vegas! Woo Hoo! Did you have fun? Congrats on finishing week 4! I hear that is a hard week!

Do you find it a lot harder to run outside than on the treadmill? Seems like the treadmill is doing the work for us...right? Or is it just helping keep rhythm?

I have decided to do my workouts inside until the pollen count goes back down to something reasonable. These 9.6/10 days are not being nice to my lungs! And to run out in the pollen and inhale it in very large gulps is probably just not a good idea! :) lol

Hi Maroo - I had the most difficult time with W3. Each week brings on a new challenge but for some reason W3 was the roughest for me so far. Having said that Friday I will be running for 20 min. straight so we'll see what I have to say after that workout! I found the treadmill was hard for me because I just could not get a rhythm but as far as exertion I did not feel it was the same as outside but that's just me. I felt like I was running a bit faster today outside then I was able to do on the treadmill

Vicki, welcome home...although not for long since you're about to head away again. lol That's good that your foot/ankle is feeling better!

Well this morning I ran 3.1 miles non-stop! I did a warmup walk, then reset my treadmill down to zero. Then I ran at 4.5mph and went the whole way! It took me 41 minutes 30 seconds.

So do I run slower for a longer time with no walking, and gradually increase my speed?
Or do I run faster for a shorter time and do intervals and gradually increase my running time/decrease my walking time?

I don't know! I may just switch back and forth depending on what I feel like doing. I have to research and see if one way is better in the long run (haha). My long term goal is to do the half marathon next January, so I need to figure out which way will get me to that. Who knows, maybe either way is fine and the end result is the same?!? :confused3 What do you guys think?!

Hi Liz - you are the running queen! I think your progress is awesome. I really don't know what to tell you about how to move forward from here. I am not able to progress as quickly as you but I say do what you feel is right for you each day. I think the C25K program is a benchmark to start with but if you progress quicker then have fun!!

I've been lurking on here for about at week, waiting to get over a back injury to start the C25K.

Well, I DID IT! W1D1! :woohoo: It was tough, and I had to slow down my pace each time the run sections came, but I was able to get thru it!

I don't have a treadmill, so my Hubby and I just walked/jogged around the neighborhood. I just mapped my route, and it was 2.15 miles total! I can't beleive it was that far!

Our goal is to do the Expedition Everest Challenge in September!

Thank You All! Even though you didn't know it, you've been inspiring me as I read along!

Welcome Jenny - I don't break any speed records running but my goal now is to get in running condition and then I'll work on speed after I've worked up to running 30 min. I think the Expedition Everest Challenge sounds like so much fun! I hope you get to do it and then you can give us a report!

I started this program a few weeks ago. I'm on my 2nd workout of week 3 and I am so motivated by this program. I have NEVER been a runner even when I was in great shape.

So far so good, but it's hard to believe I'll ever be able to run 30 minutes straight.

Good luck to everyone on the program and happy jogging.

Welcome Graceesmom - I am with you on finding it hard to believe that I'll be running 30 min. without walking but if everything goes okay this week then I should be running 20 min without walking on Friday. Yikes! Good luck on the rest of your week!

Hey I just found this message board and when I saw this thread it made me smile...last year I did the C25k program and it helped me SOO much. Over the past year I've lost 50 pounds and have ran further than I ever thought I would in my life. I used to think running a mile was far, but the furthest I've ran so far is 6 miles....I owe it all to this program. Keep up the hard work and just remember on your long runs to take it slow and concentrate on your breathing.

Good morning all :)

Well today I did W5D2. My walks at 4mph and jogs at 4.7. I took it easy and just went a couple miles. I'm not sure if I could go 20 minutes at 4.7...we'll see on that.

maroo, good luck deciding on the fall trip/race (what a fun decision!) and I hope your friend can go with you.

Vicki, way to go!! I hope your Orlando trip goes well, can't wait to hear about it and your C25K progress while you were there.

DisneyDayTripper, thanks for posting! :) I love reading about C25K graduates and how they liked the program. And congratulations to you!!

DisneyDayTripper - Wow! Congrats on the weight loss. :thumbsup2 And the 6 miles! I hope I can say that one day! :)

CoMickey - I am so jealous!! Have fun at DISNEY! :) Even a few days would make me smile! :)
I find myself thinking that the treadmill helps me keep my rhythm a little better...not sure why...maybe because it is a constant speed? I have a hard time on "dry land"...I think once I get a rhythm down on the treadmill that it will be easier to do it outside.

Liz - Good morning to you, too!! (Your name is Liz, right?) lol

Good morning! So what has everyone been up to the past couple days??

I thought I had just a cold, but now I'm pretty sure I had/have the flu. :( My oldest just got over it and everything I've been going through he did. I was so beat yesterday that I could barely get out of bed. So definitely no workout! I managed to get on the treadmill this morning though and did W5D2 again with my jogs at just 4.6mph. And even that was a challenge, my body is so weak.

maroo, yep my name is Liz. :)

Yuck! The flu! :scared1:

Nasty stuff!

I actually have made a decision about a fall race...I am not doing one. :lmao:

I have a really cool opportunity to take a trip with a friend over Labor Day weekend PLUS get to stay for Night of Joy and have some cool stuff attached to that! This is a 9 night trip...but with Free Dining, it will be hard to be beat! :)

I will be starting a pre-trip report soon!

On a WISH note: I did W1D3 again and was able to do it just fine yesterday!! :)

I have noticed that I do MUCH better when I am well hydrated well before I do the walk/jog. So I am working on that! :)

Hello to everyone from Orlando. I finished W5D2 yesterday!!! The first 8 min. were fairly 'easy' (easy = not impossible!) and the second 8 min. was 'moderate easy' ) moderate easy = WTH, this is hard!), but I made it through. I was aiming for that runners 'high' I've read about... I should not have been thinking this while running today but I couldn't help but think about the 20 min. w/o walks that will be the next workout on Friday. I am praying, crossing my fingers, offering my first born...whateve it takes to get me through that 20 min. run! But not to sound negative I am truely amazed what I have accomplished and very proud that I have stuck with this for this long! If someone would have told me 5 weeks ago that I would be running for 8 min. I would not have believed it....I am sure that everyone here has similar feelings. My next workout I won't be a wogger but only for that day because next week we get walking breaks again but just for that day I will be a runner!

Disneydaytripper - Way to go on your weight loss! Did you also follow an eating plan?

Liz - Sorry to hear about your flu and I am amazed that you've been able to still workout! I hope you feel better soon!

Maroo - Thanks and I am looking forward to this weekend at the parks! Even though I am working while in Orlando it feels like a vacation because we are at a really great resort and when DBF gets back at night we've been going out. Last night we went to Universal City Walk to Margaritaville it was a lot of fun! We rarely get time alone so this is so much fun for us...work and all! It does take a lot of discipline not to sneak off to a park but I've done this before, in fact just last month in Feb. I met my parents here in Orlando and spent two weeks. I worked for a week and then took the next week off and spent it at the parks!

Take care everyone have fun wogging!

Disneydaytripper - Way to go on your weight loss! Did you also follow an eating plan?

DW and I followed Weight Watchers as close as we could, but never really did the program. We mostly wrote down everything we ate which helped us not want to eat more than we should. Measuring all of our food with a food scale or measuring cups was probably the most help. I never realized what a serving of cereal looked like and I was probably have 2-3 servings easy whenever I would just get a bowl without measuring.

I also now only drink Diet Coke whenever I do drink pop/soda.

maroo, well that Labor Day trip sounds fabulous!
That's great you did ok with W1D3. You're getting stronger already! :thumbsup2

Vicki, Hey travelling girl! :) Just remember you can slow your jog down to get through that 20 minutes... There's no way I could have done it without reducing my speed! Good Luck!

Oh my gosh you guys, the Half Marathon jumped up from 70% full to 80% full sometime in the past couple days! UGH, I'm having such a hard time committing to it, WILL I BE READY TO DO IT??! I don't know!!

Oh gosh!!!

I hope the DIS Unplugged team gets the details together very soon...or I am going to have to decide between Team in Training and going on my own quick so that I don't miss out on going at all...:confused3

What is your source for this... (before I go shake the trees on the other thread to please hurry...) It still has 70% on www.disneyrunning.com and I don't see anything on the WISH thread or Disney website...is there another running website out there that I can obsess over? :lmao:

Hi guys, I'm so glad to here that everyone is sticking with it. I have completed 3 days now. I started with W2D1 and then got some friends to join me (we went for a walk and I had my watch and started jogging, I said you don't have to jog with me I go so slow you will be able to keep up, but they did join me and now are on board) so I did W1D1 and D2 and having friends to be held accountable to, has helped alot. I went and got new running shoes today, so now I will also be accountable to that price tag. Now I have to find a race to strive for.

Awesome!! And friends to bring along! That is certainly a plus.

Do a Disney race!!! :) If you can. I hear they are awesome. I think a few of us are shooting for the half marathon as an ultimate goal. :)

Congrats!!! I can't believe you are on week 5 already - time really does fly, huh? I remember when I first did the 20min run - it was ROUGH. But just keep with it and you will be amazed. You are doing awesome!!

I finished my first 34 min (2.5mile) run tuesday (tried monday but treadmill was down and it was raining) and am scheduled to do the 2nd today. It can still be tough by the end but the first 20 mins or so aren't too bad, just kind of boring. Would probably be even easier if I was getting enough sleep but that's another thread...
