2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

Congrats, everyone, on LOTS of success stories this week! Way to go!

And...HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Debra! I know that you are off in the World celebrating today (as you should be!) so here's hoping you are having a magical trip! We'd love to hear about it when you return! 40 is right around the corner for me as well, which was one of the main reasons I started this whole crazy running thing in the first place! :lmao:

My big challenges coming up are (1) transitioning from running inside on the TM to outside. I did a 40-minute run outside today and it went really well! I was nervous about running for that length of time outside. I think prior to today, the longest I have done outside is just over 30 minutes (longest on the TM is 55 minutes). Tomorrow I have one of those 55-min runs scheduled, and I will do it on the TM even though the weather will be fine here. I think I should transition a bit slowly. (2) My second big challenge this week will be my first speed workout on Friday. Haven't done one yet and I admit that I am intimidated by it, but so far everything else my coach has thrown at me has been fine, so I am keeping my fingers crossed about this as well.

Have a great week everyone! Keep running! :goodvibes

As for me, the rain finally stopped enough for me to run this afternoon. Almost right away my legs, hips and feet aching even with a motrin I took before I left the house. I did run the whole thing, while I kept a careful watch for puddles........fearing I would fall due to my neck.

Needless to say i ran my usual route (3.1) in a slow 36 minute pace, which is fine considering the weather was rather crappy ;)

My MRI results should be completed by Mon or Tue, so keep crossing your fingers that everything is fine :)

FYI for everyone here-Runner's World this month has an EXCELLENT section for beginning runners!

I subscribed a while ago to give myself some motivation and here comes this great issue!

I'm going back to the treadmill today. The Runner's World article suggested a 25 minute run: 5 min run-15 minute walk/run-and 5 min walk to cool down. My real goal is to get to a 20 minute continuous run.

Well, I finally got in a full week 4 day, but I had to take more then 90 seconds between the final 3 and the last 5. I actually took 3 minutes between them. I was irritate with myself (and my legs for causing such pain) that I didn't finish it in the time allotted. I have high hopes for finishing it today and finally getting out of week 4 at the end of this week!

Wish me luck!

You can do it!

I am supposed to start Week 4 tomorrow but I think I might do Week 3 again. I just think it might be a better idea for me. I don't know that I am really ready. Post how it goes today!

Thanks! I have no idea how I am doing this. Seriously, I have tried running many times since being a young teen and never have I been successful. Once, at about 18 (and I was thin and athletic), I spent a good portion of the summer trying to run and eventually worked my way up to ONE mile. :rotfl2: yup, that was the most I ever ran before this. Why I can do it so well now is baffling to me!

Please report back with your results! Hang in there!

Don't you dare beat yourself up about this. You did it! You are out there and running several days each week! That is the most important thing!

As for me--I did ok on my 55 minute run today, but the last 7 minutes were a definite struggle. I am having hip issues which I can't figure out...don't know if it is a joint thing or a muscle thing. I am seeing my coach on Weds. and he is also a sports massage therapist, so he is going to work on the muscles for me and see if there is tension there that should be released.

I ran on the TM today (since I am trying to slowly transition to outside) and I think that may have been a mistake. The whole time I was running I was wishing I was outside. Hmmmm.... Well, it will get into the 50's the rest of this week, so I am sure I will have several runs outside this week.

Have a great day, runners!

Hi All,
I started this program again a few weeks back. I just finished week 3 (repeated it because I felt I needed to). I was just looking ahead and the schedule has a two mile jog in week 5, which is before the first 1 mile jog in week 6? Is this correct??

I think your printer just printed wrong. It is ...
Week 5- 2 miles
Week 6- 2.25
Week 7-2.5
Week 8-2.75
Week 9- all the way!

Scary isn't it!

First of all, girl, you are doing GREAT!!! I don't know HOW you run for almost an hour, whether it's inside or outside! I hope to be like you someday! :worship:

As for the hip....I don't know exactly what you're feeling, but I can share my hip issues in case yours is similar...I had a constant ache and sometimes shooting pain in my left hip. Only the left. Couldn't figure it out. I went to an orthopedic doctor because I couldn't bear it anymore. Turns out it was bursitis. From running. (me? I'm a beginner, not a marathoner!!) I went through PT and was talking with one of the PT's and she explained that it's because I always ran the same route. An out & Back along the shoulder of the road, switching sides on my way back. I was told in the beginning to run against traffic so you can see the cars coming, so that's what I did every run. Anyway, that constant slight lean to the left (the road slightly slopes toward the curb) is what caused the bursitis. :headache: To make a long story even longer...the PT didn't do it for me. So I opted for the cortisone shot in my hip and here I am running again. :thumbsup2 I'm smarter about it now. I run out & back on the same side of the road (even lean-time) or I run in the woods on a trail. Bursitis pain is under your hip bone, sort of more of an upper thigh area (hard to describe, but you can probably google it). If it's bursitis that you're experiencing, once you know the spot, and push on it, you'll see stars. :headache: Hopefully that's not it, but if it is...it's not the end of the world. :)

Sorry to ramble on there - hopefully none of you guys have to go through that!

:cool1: Whoo Hoo!! I did it. I got my butt on the treadmill and did a 25 minute workout-5 minutes warm up and cool down, then 1 minute jogging and 2 minutes walking for 15 minutes.

It felt great!!!

I didn't read all the pages, sorry, so if someone would be so kind as to point me to where it says the schedule. I see people post week # and Day #. I'd like to take a look. I've gained 10 lbs since Sept and would like to drop that before the pool opens in June and then keep on going for another 20!
Thanks!!

Here you go Mom2mykids......Let us know how you do! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I am NOT a runner so this should be interesting. I hated it in middle school, High school and have avoided it ever since. Also, I'm..uh..top heavy, ;) So running isn't always comfortable. all that being said I know lots of people who do run so now that I'm 20 years out of high school I think its time to look at it again, LOL. Also I am hoping by posting it will help me stay motivated and on track. :thumbsup2
Thanks!

OK just went to the website, weeks 1 and 2 I should be able to do no problem. :thumbsup2 DD is in preschool MWF for 2 1/2 hours. I should be able to do it and still have time for a shower, LOL.

Ok so my actual start date will be next monday (no school tomorrow). This week I'll make sure to get all my errands done so I will have the time set aside next week. I am doing this week, exercise TV, it is on the On Demand feature of our cable TV....So I am doing something this week!:)

Hi everyone - I got my MRI results yesterday here they are:

Herniation at C4-5 with mild impingement of the thecal sac. At C6 there is a lesion consistant with atypical hemangioma. The radiologist is requesting clinical correlation.

So this is what I found out (my dr appt is Wen) : C4-5 is pressing against my nerve causing my neck pain and weakness and lack of upper body strength. Now C6 is a bruise on my spinal cord. The clinical correlation means the radiologist wants to cover his but and wants either further tests (like Catscan) or the Dr. to confirm that is what it is and not a cyst or a tumor.

I don't go till tomorrow, but I just want to let everyone know that at this point MS is ruled out!!!!

I figure I need surgery for fix the herniation,,,,,,,,no biggie I keep telling myself since it could be worse.

Thanks again for all of your support :) I am running today, one last time before I got to the dr tomorrow and he changes his mind and says NO RUNNING ;)

swim-mom, so glad MS has been ruled out for you!

Today I started my repeat of Week 3. I did it 3 times last week but just still didn't feel ready to move on. So Week 3 again it is. It went okay. During the 2nd 3 minute run my ankles were burning but I made it. It is done. I can go on with my day knowing I did it! :)

swim-mom, i totally feel for you..i have had neck problems in the past, and it wasn't til i had an MRI that they found out i had a herniated disc (i believe C4) and also a bulgeing disc (c5) which were like yours pressing on the nerves-- so believe me, i know all too well the unbelievable pain that it can cause!! I had these issues off an on for a few years, and every dr. that i went to - including a "specialist" said, "oh, it's probably a pulled muscle", they gave me sleeping pills, and muscle relaxers, which didn't TOUCH the pain at all so ---- i knew it was way more than that,i am not an idiot.. so i went to a chiro. and HE scheduled the mri, I don't want any kind of surgery, and for what i had, there wasn't anything else to do for it, so i am just dealing, taking my chances it won't come back again.. it has been ok for a couple years now.. knock on wood..
It seems it acts up every now or then if i do something that really is stupid and aggravate it, but so far it's been ok lately! :)

But, it is one of the worst pains you can imagine, so i know where you are coming from.. it's just awful.

Sending pixie dust your way!!!!

I did it :yay: Week 4 that is. I got in the whole thing at the right time. :woohoo: I found the first two runs actually easy! Can you believe that?? I had to use all of my mental strength to get me through the last 5 minutes, but I prevailed. Just two more week 4 runs and I get to graduate to week 5 and then stay there until I'm 80  .

I have decided that this whole running thing is 90% mental, so now that I have completed week 4 once, I can do it again (a-la Harry Potter and his stag). I know I can do it since I have already done it.

swim-mom -- SO glad it's not MS! You have a great, positive attitude and will get through this! If you ever need anything, please let me know. You know I'm right around the corner. :goodvibes

I have decided that this whole running thing is 90% mental

AMEN, SISTA! ::yes:: Great job on week 4! None of them are easy, that's for sure! :thumbsup2 The mental game will ALWAYS be there. Even when you're running miles and miles at a time. But we're strong ladies and we can work through it!

I think that is the exact spot my DH had surgery on. He had the area fused with donor bone. They went in through the front of the neck. He spent one night, 6 weeks off work and 4 months later we were at WDW and he rode all the thrill rides with our sons since I was 8 months pregnant!

Dh also had the neck pain and numbness off and on. He is good now!:thumbsup2
