2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

How is everyone doing? I was set to do my first 25 min run last thursday but the treadmills at the gym were being serviced so I missed it. Then my mom visited so I was back to the gym last Tuesday - and forced myself to do the 25min and not go back and repeat. It wasn't toooooooo bad (ok, it was hard, but I didn't feel like I was going to die). So now I am off to the next week of 25 mins only... it's nice to be out of the interval section finally. Hoping I can slowly but surely get up to distance running so I can maybe do the TOT 13k

I'm glad to see you all are still doing well. I was doing really good, just about to start week 3 and then everyone got sick, for what seems like weeks and I completely fell off the wagon. Now I'm so frustrated I don't even want to get started again.:sad2:

That happened to me a couple times during it - one illness and one injury! You just have to get back on - maybe start week 2 again and see how it feels. It beats starting all over a couple months down the road!

Starting again...this is my second time to start C25K and I am on W1D3 (tomorrow). Last time I did something to my ankle and had to quite for a couple of months. I still don't know what I did but I think it was the tendon that runs down the inside of my ankle...it was painful to even walk and it has taken me so long to get motivated to try again. I am determined to make it through this time and I am following the program exactly, last time I tried to rush it a bit and I think that is why I hurt my ankle.

Congratulations to all of you who have started, are in the middle and who have completed the program!

Hi all! I'm new to this thread too. :wave2:

I began the C25K this week and today was W1D3 for me. First week complete, yay! I've never run before in my life, I am as new as it gets!! But I am ready to do this, and excited about it.

Vicki, it sounds like you and I are at about the same point in the program. I hope you keep posting your progress! I need someone who's going through what I am!! :)

I'm using my treadmill for now, will head outside at some point later. Today my walk was at 3.5 mph and my run was at 4.5 mph, and I always have it set to a 2% incline.

My HOPE is to do the Half in WDW next year... I'm not registered yet, but I see that it is 60% full so I'll need to decide soon!

Hi Liz, :wave2:

Yay! Glad to have someone at the same point in the C25K program! I finished W1D3 last night. I had a bad day at work and was grumpy and was not motivated to go out last night and when I first started it was grumble, grumble, grumble but as I got into it I was so happy to be out there and I found my self looking forward to the running segments.

I am doing it outside so I don't know how fast I am doing it but last night I completed 2.5 miles in 30 min. I guess if I weren't so lazy I could figure out how fast I was doing it?!!! I'll get my engineer BF right on that! ;)

I am planning to do a 5K April 26 which will be great timing as I should be just finishing the program.

I am aiming for Mon.-Wed.-Thurs but this week I'll do my W2D1 tomorrow night, Sunday, because I have a work event on Monday night and I don't want to have too many days between training - Tues.-Thurs. I'll then need to do something over the weekend and I think we are going to go to Disneyland so I'll get some exercise that day.

Are you doing anything on your 'off' day? I haven't been but I am thinking I should add an exercise video or something but with my schedule I am lucky to get the C25K in three times a week.

Glad you're here!

Hey Vicki, I'm glad you're here too!! Congrats on completing week 1! :thumbsup2

That's great you've got a 5K planned for April! I'm thinking about doing one on May 16th. I want to give myself more than the 9 weeks as I think I'm going to have to repeat some weeks as it gets harder... I have a neighbor who started the program today and I'm hoping she's going to do it with me. It'll be my very first race ever!!

I know what you mean about the off days. I'm fine with the days off in between except for the 2 days in a row. So today being my second day off I decided to get on the treadmill and just do a shorter workout. I did my stretching, then got on the tm for 20 minutes, then stretched again.

We start week 2 tomorrow! Tell me how it goes for you! :cool1:

Good morning Vicki! :)

W2D1 complete. I went 1.87 miles in 26 minutes. Then I did a slow (3mph) cool down walk for another 4 minutes for a total of 2.07 miles in 30 minutes.

Wow you guys run so fast! I only run at a 4.3 so I don't cover as much ground as you :)

So I finished the 2nd 25min of week 6 (the third 25 min overall). 5 min warmup, 25 min run, and then about a 6 min cooldown. I covered about 2.25 miles. Well I think it's miles, the treadmill just says a number and there are no units. One more 25min'er tomorrow before I ratchet it up!

Hi Liz! :wave2:

W2D1 complete for me too! Dancing bananas for us!

I like to go out in the evening and my DBF decided to join me today. He is what I would call a runner but he doesn't go out as often as he would like - He says I am motivating him now to start running on a regular bases! ;)

We did 1.6 in 25 min. and walked to cool down for another 3.min or so. When running the first 60 seconds seemed easy but I knew I was on the last 30 seconds without even looking at my stop watch...those 30 seconds seemed long!:scared1:

The first two run/walk segments were hard but each one got a little easier and I was recovering my breathing much quicker during the two minute walking parts. Yay! I was happy and glad I went out although I wasn't feeling 100% I think my lunch didn't quite agree with me.

I'll do W2D2 on Tuesday. :dance3:

'Talk' to you soon!

Wow Tiffany - I can't wait until I am running 25 min. without walking! Very cool! I really do not run fast at all! I felt like a turtle today running with my DBF who has run several marathons and 1/2 marathons. We were just talking today about the DL 1/2 Marathon, I am not sure I will be up for it but it sounds fun! They do have a 5K and 10K the day before that I am sure I could do by Sept. but a 1/2 marathon...:scared1: We'll see! Keep up the great pace!

You will make it if you just keep at it! I had to restart several times - the first time I tried the program I ended up taking a diff job and making a big move i the middle and it set me back. But just keep at it and you will be there in no time! My goal is the tower of terror 13k - I hope to do that someday!

Hi ladies!

Hi Tiffany! I'm glad you're still posting here. :) That's great you're on week 6 now! I can't imagine being able to run for 25 minutes straight at this point... I know it's possible (and hopefully probable! lol) but it seems sooooo far away!

You know when I started last week I was running at 4mph the first time, that felt too slow so I went up to 4.5 which was "ok", but then I went to 5 and have done that the past two times. I could see myself going a bit higher than that and a bit slower than that depending on how I feel though. But I think 5 is good for now.

Vicki, way to go! So tell me, since you are outside how do you keep track of your time and mileage? I'm wondering how I'll do that when I head outside.

Today I did W2D2. I did the same thing as last time: 1.87 miles in 26 minutes and then cool down walk for another 4 minutes for a total of 2.07 miles in 30 minutes.

I have to say that for some reason I had a hard time at first today... I got two stitches, one on each side-that's the first time that's happened. I found myself pushing on them with my hands to make them feel better so I was running with no hand motion..I'm sure I was quite a sight. lol And it made me sort of hunch over so then my upper back started to hurt. About 1/3 of the way through the stitches went away and I was ok for the rest.

Bring on Thursday!!

Hi all! I finished week 6 with my last 25 min run. The last one was REALLY difficult for some reason. It felt like it was moving faster and I was just really tired, but made it through. I feel like the treadmill's sped isn't really what it says and can vary even when set to the same number.

Starting 28 mins tomorrow - hope it's a bit easier

If you get side stitches try breathing deeper and more slowly. If you can't breathe deeper and more slowly then you are probably running too fast.

I get them tho sometimes but usually not for long

Tiffany, thanks for the tips on the stitches.

Congrats on completing week 6!! :yay: Good luck with your 28 minutes tomorrow!

W2D2 over! I did 30 min. and made it 2 miles. I walked another 10 min. when I finished to get to my car but that was fine...I ALMOST continued the run/walk segments instead of walking but held myself back! Again the first two runs were difficult but then it was easier and I felt okay when 60 sec. was up and the additonal 30 secs. did not seem to last forever like it did on Sun.

Liz - Way to go at 5mph! I have no idea how fast I am running but I am sure it is sloooowwww! I am now using a gravel path around a park that is marked so that is how I can tell how far I've gone. I use a watch that has a stopwatch and that is how I am keeping track of my time. I've downloaded a podcast for my iPod for the C25K but I don't really like the music so I listen to my iPod and then keep track on my watch. I hope your side stitches don't make a reappearance on Thursday!

Tiffany - I am so in awe of your 25 min! I am anticipating that it will be very hard and I am hoping I will be able to complete it! I am keeping the faith that if I follow the program that by the time I do get to the 25 min. run, I'll be able to do it!~ Good luck on your 28 min. run!

Congratulations to everyone starting and keeping at it!

I started C25K in late January and have made it to W4. I'm repeating the week. The first time around I couldn't finish the last five minute run on D1. I asked around and needed to SLOW DOWN. I'd been doing the runs at 5.5 on the TM. 5 mph is a much more comfortable pace for me. Some suggested slowing down and building endurance and that's what I'm doing. I'll start W5 next week. Another suggest I got was to keep progressing through the weeks, but come back to a previous week in the future and run it more quickly go increase my speed.

Next week the intervals get really screwy. I'm going to have to pay attention!

Ronda

Vicki- I think you're running faster than you think if you're going 2 miles in 30 minutes. That's basically what I'm doing so you must be right there with me. Of course I could be totally wrong here, the pacing/speed/mileage/timing still confuses me a bit! lol

Ronda- Hi there! Congrats on making it to week 4!! :cool1:
So you're going 5mph like me then, cool. Thanks for the tip about coming back to previous weeks, that's good to know. It's nice having someone who is just a couple weeks ahead of me here, please stick around and keep us posted on your progress!

As for me, I completed week 2 today! YAY! And I have to say that I felt really strong today. It was a great workout. I just felt great the entire time and could have pushed myself to do the runs longer and to also just keep going altogether longer. I was actually bummed when the 30 minutes was over and I had to stop! lol I did do a couple of the runs for 2 minutes instead of 90 seconds. so just a smidge more. I noticed that I recovered faster during my walks and was ready to run again sooner. It was great!

Oh, so I did just a tad more than my previous two week 2 workouts: I went 1.9 miles in 26 minutes, add in the cool down for a total of 2.16 miles in 30 minutes.

I'm ready for week 3!!! :)

Hi all! I did my first 28-min run today. Ended up postponing it because my back and ankles were sore yesterday and I just decided it was better to rest. Anyways I haven't really been going by the "weeks" but instead just every other so I deserved my rest day :)

I finally got past the 2 mile mark (told you I ran slow) - so that felt good! My breathing was fine and my body felt strong the ONLY issue I have is my face gets SO hot that sometimes I start to feel lightheaded. :faint: Do any of you guys have any tips for dealing with that?

Hope everyone else's runs are going well!

Happy Friday!

I completed W2D3 last night and I was amazed as was my DBF on how much easier it was for me on D3 as it was on D1 of this week. He was running the stopwatch so he would tell me when to run and walk and at one point I thought he had lost track of the walking time and that we had been walking too long! Just 4 days earlier the walking times seemed to go by way too fast. I ran 2 miles in the 30 min. period and then we walked another half mile.

I do think however that W3 will be a challenge running much longer.
I am not sure if I'll start W3D1 tomorrow or wait until Sunday. We are going to Disneyland tomorrow and I'm not sure if getting up early to do the W3D1 before going and then walking all day would be too much. :scared1:

Tiffany - I really don't have any suggestions for your lightheadedness. I get really red faced too but always have even when I was younger but I don't get lightheaded. Last Sunday I was lightheaded prior to my workout but I did it anyway and felt ok but not 100%. I wonder if your face getting too hot has anything to really do with your lightheadedness. Maybe you need to eat a little before your workout maybe part of a Cliff Bar or something similar?
