2007 Transatlantic and First Med cruises thread

I will remind Lynn whne she gets in from her run,

Kelly are you guys and anyother going to DL in Ayg fr the 5K or 1/2???? We will be there albeit just Fri and Sat, leave sunday right after the 1/2. We will be doing the 5K this year it looked like just too much fun.

Yes, Anna and I are going to do it again this year, it was fun. Let's plan another get together, but with a lower temp this year.

Kelly, I heard all of your storms are coming here. We are supposedly in for 2 weeks of winterstorms with wind. (shhhhh. I'm kind of excited! I LOVE winter and storms--Snow DAYS!:happytv: )

Diane - do you mean that you don't go stir crazy with 8 kids indoors all day? How do they keep busy..I just can't imagine it (I guess the non-parent is showing here  )

I am also here. It was a beautiful day yesterday, over 50 degrees and wind less than 10mph, today the high is going to be about 45 and wind up to 70mph! I need to get out for my dog walk before the wind kicks up this morning!

Cayla, I really like my kids. Keeping busy with 8 kids hasn't been a problem.:lmao: We're in a big yarn phase right now and three of them are making felted purses. One is making a blanket with fleece. They like to read, since we don't do tv, and I have three who like to cook. It's fun to watch them be productive. Of course there are times when they gather around one computer and watch Sarah play SIMS.:sad2: I keep busy by keeping them busy and cleaning up their messes from keeping busy.:laundy:

Honestly, I can't imagine how someone keeps busy without kids. What do you do in your spare time? Do you get bored? Of course I'm never bored. Frustrated sometimes? Check. Bored? Never. I just knit or call a friend to chat when I get frustrated. Calms me right down.:hippie:

toche. I can completely understand now. When I was living with someone who had 4 daughters (yea instant mom!) I became frustrated when they were all being irritable or bored themselves. But as you say, they are always busy doing something. I was not trying to offensive - I was just wondering since I remember the girls being frustrated and crazed when it snowed. I was living in an 1 bedroom apartment in an apartment complex at the time and there was no safe place for them to enjoy playing outside. Since we were not the primary residence, most of their entertainment things were not with them...lead to some interesting times!

As far as what I do when I have downtime? I read (a lot!) I have a private library collection of books - so there is never a shortage. I also play computer games (chocolatier, jewel quest, or mystery case files are my choices) I do watch TV but usually as a filler. My DVR has 45 shows on it currently and I have no plans to watch them anytime soon.

I am an avid flea market shopper, and just like to wander around outside when possible. I also work 70+ hours a week...so down time is often playing catchup with laundry, photo sorting, cleaning, redoing a closet or some other home project. You get the idea!

It sounds like the yarn thing is really fun. I make pin collections in frames and try to figure out what to do with all the stuff I manage to accumilate each year...purge has been the word of the year so far! i have managed to get through 4 rooms and finally have space for the stuff that belongs in those areas. One closet left to go....

Well - off to work...7p-7a as usual! ( I work 5 days a week and sometimes extra on top of that). Monday to Friday is usually work to 7a, home to slepp for 9 hours get up pack lunch and work at 7p. Boring life. It is all to pay for the Disney trips!!! (I call the per diem job my Mickey Mouse job, irritates my nurse manager no end!)

Cayla

Cayla I love that you call it your Mickey Mouse Job! :rotfl2:

OK Deann you better hunker down. We had 50mph plus winds this afternoon, not to mention all the wind last night and BLIZZARD/WHITE CONDITIONS from 11am to 5pm. So if you are East of Utah it ain't going to be pretty!:sad2:
Thank Goodness Alex and I love snow days/rainy days! DD loves snow too! she is finally at an age when we dress her in snow clothes she stays out for longer than 5 minutes...

At the beginning of the month we did the Big switch for DD back into private school for Junior K and signed her up for Kindergarden next year at said school! Big Ouch to pocket book but well worth it! She is in Junior K due to her birthdate at the end of July!

I am going to try to post a picture of today's weather! :thumbsup2

Karen, we are in the thick of Kinder apps too. UGH. they money is making me sick.

Cayla, I hope I didn't sound defensive. I sure wasn't. I really do like my kids. You KNOW I've asked about your life, and don't mind at all when you ask about mine. I actually like sharing lifestyles.:)

BTW, we pretty much do the same things, except whereas I do yarn, you do pins! We're into that purging/closet thing, too. And books? Our home looks like a library. We had book club here last month and everyone walked in and commented that this was the PERFECT place for a book club! And my favorite store? Barnes and Noble. Yep.

I enjoy finding that despite some differences, we are really very similar. That's fun! I thought you were tons of fun when I met you!

Karen, battening down the hatches as I type. ( I AM amazing, no?) How is it in Utah since the President of the church passed? Are you getting tired of coverage? Are people talking about it? Just wondering.

I never thought you didn't like your kids!!! I was just wondering about having 8 kids underfoot in a closed area...how the noise and interactions didn't just get frustrating at times.

When I had the 4 girls (yea, all girls!!) at one time it was never quiet or easy...different foods, different things they wanted to do and the fights...ugh. But, again, I was not (am not?) their mother - so that definately played into the mix.

I am sure that your home is MUCH larger than a 1 bedroom apartment and there is more than enough space to breath

As far as being alike, I think you are right...I am a home body for the most part. I can always find stuff around here to do. One would think that 1000 sq feet would not require hours and hours of cleaning, but it does somehow. Never ceases to amaze me!

My library (it is actually registered as a library) has about 1100 titles (all fantasy and Sci-Fi). I had to register my book plate a few years ago, that caused me some issues since I had changed my name since I registered the library and had to get all that caught up. But, the room I keep them in is 12x10 with 2 walls covered from ceiling to floor in books. The pins share that room, but they are dwarfed by the books as of now. I have a lot of "filing" do to, since I went a little crazy in a used book store that was going out of business a few months ago. I have about 50 books to read so I am happy as a clam in mud!

Do you read the Xanth series by Piers Anthony? You might like them - they are very kid safe, and about some pretty good ideals and ideas - be nice to others, treat people with respect etc. There are about 30 in the series I think. All great fun, with lots of puns. I am working my way through the last 5 (I slipped while in nursing school - didn't get to read for about 5 years - text books are never "relax reading"!!) So, I am catching up.

Good morning everyone! Looks like it might be an OK day here in Cheyenne, yesterday the wind was blowing in excess of 70mph gusts, with 40-50 mph sustained winds - no dog walk yesterday. Today the winds are calm, currently the sun is shining (although it is supposed to snow later), and the temps are in the 20's - the dogs will definately get a walk today!

Cayla, your library sounds great! We probably have nearly as many books, but not organized. Right now, they are almost all in boxes in the basement, waiting for the basement to be finished. One corner will be floor to ceiling bookcases, probably about 20 feet worth or more. Scott prefers non-fiction, I always used books as an escape, so my preferences are the mystery, fantasy, and some science fiction. The more I get to know you, the more you remind me of my friend that I worked with for years, (only you are much more together). She would also love your library!

I'm not that into science fiction--my husband and Dad love it, as do a couple of my kids. I think I'm going to suggest that series to my 13 year olds. When you have avid readers, they plow through so many series that it is hard to keep up with them. Whenever you mention any book to my 16year old, she has already read it, especially most of the series that are popular with kids and teens. She even goes into her English classes and frustrates the teachers because she has already read the book on the their reading lists. (One of the benefits of banning the tv!)

I love biographies, because, as you probably already know, I love learning about people. I love learning about what motivates people. I also like reading about history, finding patterns, and again trying to understand why a nation reacts a certain way. I also like reading manuals explaining how to do things. I have an English degree, and I think well written literature is great, because I like disecting a work to find passages and clues that support a theme, but it doesn't satisfy my curiosity about people in quite the same way. Literature does reveal a lot about the author, though.

So, we have 9 large book cases in our home, but we do not have library status. How did you get that, and why? That's some serious book devotion!

Ah, weather. I have never been so cold in my entire life as I was last night. It dropped 50* in an hour and then the wind started. Up to 50 mph gusts with wind chills to -30. I totally understood how someone could freeze to death quickly in weather like that. There wasn't a lot of snow, but what there was blew around in near white out conditions.

The woman I work for asked if I could come in last night so the other girl didn't have to, since the other girl lives further away. Um, No. I so did not feel like freezing just so someone else didn't have to freeze! Evil me, I know! Last night I would have paid HER not to have to come in.

Radio just said wind chill is 18 below now. Ugh.

My library came about by accident actually! I only collect paperbacks since I figured out after moving hardcover books across the country twice that I could get more books per pound in paperbacks. I just found that I hated to give up the stories after I read them, I like to go back and re-visit the characters and the story, so I kept them. After 6 or more moves I purchased my apartment that I am in now and decided that the treasures of stories deserved to be displayed. Thus the shelves, they have been rebuilt twice as the weight had damaged the walls and now I have a system up that is able to handle 1000 pounds per 3 feet of wall. The weight is close to max, but handling it well! I use the heavy duty wall brackes (double hung type) with wall molleys that go into the metal wall studs every foot. There are verticle hangers every foot across in white against indigo blue walls, very dramatic!

The organization comes from not being able to find a specific book or story. Plus my homeowners insurance demanded some type of filing system to keep track for replacement (:scared1: ) value if anything ever happens. So, I have to have a filiing/tracking system, a list of all titles by genre, author, and title. By the time all this was done - registering as a library was simply filling out a few forms for the Fed! Voila, I am a privately held, non-lending, non-trading library. I have to update the title etc lists every 5 years. I am about due and not looking forward to the inventory. It takes 2 people about 10 hours to read and confirm every name and number.

Stacey was here for the last wall rebuild and swore she would never help with inventory - I will have a lot of convincing to do for her assistance :rolleyes1

Hey y'all. Im back. Been busy moving to a new house and had everything packed up.
