Hi everybody

Sorry it has taken me ages to get on here and post. I have surfed aroudn a bit when I have had time, but have been to tired to write a coherent post when I did
We are mostly settled in. There are still lingering issues over what school the kids will be attending (big long boring story involving HR mistakes and German taxes) but we think they will be starting at the International school next week (as originally planned) and staying there until summer break and then who knows for next year? We're working on it. And, we do not have things like a sofa or TV yet. But, we are finding our way around and getting there!
Dave loves his new job. He enjoys the people and the work is exactly what he likes to do.
The kids are really liking the freedom which comes from:
A. living right in a town (in New hampshire we were 4 miles out of town)
B. living somewhere where kids are generally pretty safe
They like walking to the pizza place and the playground on their own and I am getting used to not being there to watch over them all the time
I am figuring our the grocery stores bit by bit. I found baking powder last night--so now I think I finally have everything I need to bake cookies for Dave's office assistant who has been sooooo helpful to us in a million little ways. Good thing my German friend was able to tell me baking powder and soda come in individual envelopes here--I might have looked for a month before I realized that (looked like pudding or something to me).
The kids and I took the tram to downtown Heidelberg for the carnival festivites yesterday. It was loads of fun. Not nearly as big as Mardi Gras of course, but plenty big enough for us and very family friendly and safe

Nearly everone who attends has face paint/costumes. We got off the tram downtown and Rio said "Its like the whole city decide to be the cast of Pippin today!"

Here are a few photos. They still pelt the onlookers with candy from floats and bags here

so much of the time I had the camera safely in my pocket so I could catch goodies
Rio has an appointment to have his cast off (assuming all is well in the X-ray) tomorrow. He and I walked to the Dr.'s office (it is only a block from here) last week and managed to schedule the appointment ourselves with a secretary who spoke no English. Sadly, this felt like a big accomplishment! SIGH--I had no idea how much Spanish I had learned in my one year of Jr High Spanish before going to Spain until I arrived here without that year of German--it is slow going at the moment
