2007 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC07 - October 21, 2007

good morning everyone

well, we are floating down here in So. FL.

not complaining at all 'cause we really do need the rain.

trying to get ready for the day and it is hard 'cause I got up with a nasty cold and sore throat and bad headache. Can't remember the last time I had a cold.

I've tried to make a pile in the spare bedroom for the special items that I don't want to forget for the cruise. It's so easy to forget something at the last minute. If I use it each day, I put a note on the pile and that reminds me.

Hope everyone has a great day

Good morning everyone!

Billy - sorry to hear that this year has been a bad one. I've had those kind of years. :grouphug: Hope that the cruise and your trip to WDW make the year much better. Enjoy the food but also enjoy some exercise like walking around Epcot and around the ship and Castaway Cay.

Kay - sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Better now than at cruise time.

Theresa - sounds like you have been busy, busy, busy. You'll need the cruise to relax.

Our dining room table is where we start putting things for vacation and right now it is pretty full with all the "stuff" (no clothes) we are bringing. Masks, snorkels, books, toiletries, etc. It's getting closer! :dance3:

I have been lurking on here for quite a while now and want to thank everyone for all of the fabulous information. This will be our third Disney cruise but first member cruise. We are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and our boys (who live in LasVegas) will be joining us. The thing that makes this board really special are the people who post -- you all really care about each other. Thank you again. ~Annie

Welcome Annie to the party! Feel free to ask away with any questions, since this cruise is a little different than a normal Disney Cruise!

I am also learning how to use this site.... I didn't mean to have that picture of me laughing like an idiot while playing mini-golf in Cozumel on my post. HOPEFULLY, you will see a pic of my family instead.....
Never mind --- apparently it changes automatically.....sorry -- so, can you delete a post?

Welcome Annie.

Can someone tell me if the Cruise has shampoo/conditioner and lotion.
I try to save all the "pounds" I can in packing and am trying to find out if we need to pack it.

Joannel, do you have a final list on who was on your linked dining list. Just curious who we might be dining with for early dining.

Themallons - are we still at 24 people for the Fish Extenders?

less than 3 weeks to go :woohoo:

I found out last week that I need to find a new job. My last day will be October 17th..so I am consumed with that. Would really like to have one before we leave so I don't wake up and go to bed thinking about it!! :headache:

Stacey

Stacey - What kind of work do you do? My husband lost his job right before our July vacation and thanks to a recruiter he was able to get a job shortly after we returned.

-Cheryl

Stacey,

Good luck job hunting, it's never fun. Our company was just sold. So I am waiting for that to happen here to some of us.

Thanks guys.

Cheryl,

I have been in technology as a business analyst for my whole career just about. So about 20 years or so. Mananged other business analysts, done some project management, product management etc. All in the technology area for the mortgage industry.

I am not set on continuing to do that, but obvious that is my background. I am open to other opportunities.

Funny how the older you get --- you just want to be on vacation. If my family wasn't here in Texas, I would be open to moving to Orlando and reducing my lifestyle and work at Disney World! But I can't leave my brother and his kids and my mom and dad!

Of course I did send in a resume to Disney - I figure what the heck you NEVER know if they would let someone telecommute.

Joannel, hope you don't have to look...as it is no fun at all.

Check out Tek systems ( They are a recruiter) Highly recommended for technology industry.

Woohoo - I'm so excited to be less that 3 weeks from our cruise! I'm just back from a Bday cruise with the girls. You see, I'm in "cruise training..." Actually, I did learn better "how to cruise" and am so much looking forward to the DVC member cruise now - didn't know I could get more excited. And I've had a dress rehearsal of cruise clothing. Good thing since I lost a slip from under my dress on the last night :scared1:
So I'm going to get caught up since my last post now. Anyone else get "land sick" after a cruise? I adjusted to life on board quickly but I'm over 24 hours home and still rolling with the seas...

hey Linda: maybe I should change my name to that :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I have five cruises scheduled by the end of December. Haven't told you about all of them yet - just can't seem to help myself. I need to go to cruise rehab quickly !!!!!

went to Dr. today and have a horrid cold - put me on some new medicine and I'll for sure be OK for this one. It should hang on for about 4 more days.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Then my board name would be Sea U ALL THE TIME

where is Joannel today???????? we had rain most all day again. the south end of FL is sure a soggy one.

EDITED TO ADD: oops - I see she posted a couple of hours ago.....

Welcome aboard! I know I said last call for buttons was the other day, but since I haven't passed the list on to Mark or Linda if you want to be included in the buttons/listing drop me an e-mail tonight (or tomorrow morning at the latest). Full details on the web page which can be accessed from the first post of this thread.

Stacey - yes there will be shampoo, conditioner and body lotion in your cabin. All the products are by H2O spa and are very nice.

Sorry to hear about the layoff. Been there done that. Good luck in the job hunt!

Welcome back! I've never had it but have heard of some who feel like they are rocking and rolling once they get home. Hope it ends soon.

PDFG and all who need it.

Stacey

Yes, no need to pack your own! It's pretty good stuff too!

Since I've been lurking inconsistently, I thought I'd post a get to know me post as a lame attempt to make up for my inconsistent posting. But first:
Kay - hope you recover from your cold. I fear getting sick for the cruise... Hope you all don't float away in FL. Honestly have to say that I'm glad the rain is no longer here in mid'gulf TX. TX has a new malady that the Dr.s have labelled "non-allergic rhinitis" because everyone has cold/allergy syptoms as a result of our very wet summer. Again, pixie dust for quick recovery to you and Abby.
aphoenix - we'll be looking for a kilt...
I think from Trishy: "Congrats to Kay that Kim is coming home!!! Can't say enough THANK YOUS to all of the military families for the brave sacrifices you make." I definitely ditto this statement to anyone related to military service!
Tiggerguy - sorry you're having such a bad year, have had similar myself. Good luck and pixie dust with the picking yourself back up. I agree with the post about walking with the cruise and EpcotF&W - it's my plan for getting back on track with attitude and exercise.
Joannel and all trying to lose weight: I'm in the same boat - no pun intended. I've stagnated all summer but at least have only gained 3 pounds after 2 weeks vacation, summer and a 4 day Bday cruise. I did buy a new suit after swimming out of an old one (that's the good news) but I don't have a full length mirror at home. So on the Bday cruise I saw myself in the new suit full length (that's the bad news) so I've now taken in the old suit so I can stick with shorts/skirts on bottom.
Dear Sis has just moved locally due to job offer. She'd been laid off during the summer - good luck to all others job hunting now.
So for my DIS name, the DVC is because I love being a DVC member and the kidsMom part is because I unexpectedly quit my job to "launch my mommy career" when DS was born and, nine years later, am no only stil an at home mother but a homeschooler. I am most definitely rarely getting a break as my kids' Mom and on those days when I'm not loving it, the name makes me feel special and that it's worth it... Other message board names include MSNEmommy because I have a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering and that's somewhat rare in a stay-at-home mommy. I've lived in MA, MD, college in VA and KS, now in TX. I've worked/volunteered as a clerk, candystriper, retail sales person, digitizer, aerobics instructor, tour guide, university lab teaching assistant, engineer, elementary and junior high and preschool and sunday school substitute teacher, and of course I volunteer to help all my friends plan their WDW vacations. I'll be driving with my husband of 12 years and two children, DS9 and DD7, to WDW arriving 17th to stay cheap at PopC then Radison at the Port before the cruise then staying at BCV 'til Nov 3 after - can't wait! Latest new trick from this old dog is taking up tap dancing last year - I've had a sum total of 1 year of dance my entire life so this has been a humbling but fun experience. I acually danced on stage with my kids at the spring recital - what a hoot! :dogdance: So anyone relate to any of the above?
Member Cruise question: do they offer booking discounts on board for future cruises as they did on the only other DCL cruise we did? Are the deals any good or are we better going through a TA? If better through TA, please PM me your recommendations - TIA.

Linda: that was a very nice "get to know me". thank you.

yep, they certainly do offer incentives to book onboard. I think it is usually 10% off and then an onboard credit.

But I think if you book Cat. 11 & 12 there is no discount. I recently inquired about booking in those cats. and was told no. So I came home and booked with COSTCO and get/got a cash card back from them and then a $50 onboard credit with Disney 'cause I used my Disney card to book the whole cruise. So that makes it quite a bit in return for my $$'s.

If you book more expensive cats. then you do get 10%.

You can fill out the info sheet by the CM's desk, her name is Leslie, and she will return it to you with the $$ value of what you want. Sometimes that is better than waiting in line to speak with her at her desk on Deck 4. Whichever suits you is the best way to do it.
