2007-2008 cheer parent thread

Glad to have found this thread!!! I haven't read all the pages but wanted to join in on the fun!!

DD 16 cheers for Celebrity Lg Coed 5 out of Salem NH!! At the moment she is getting ready for an exhibition in central MA. It is my understanding that quite a few teams from the New England area will be performing exhibition routines in order to get ready for competition.

We head to Indianapolis on Friday to compete at WSF Indy Showdown!!! Then the next big comp will be Cheersport in Atlanta in February..............with many other local comps before and after!!!

Hope to meet some of you along the way!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE GIRLS COMPETITNG THIS WEEKEND!!!! :thumbsup2

Please update us ok??!!
We have our first regional comp next weekend!!

On a side note ....ntburns22, we also usually wear the glitter makeup but we will not for the first two competitions!! Im kinda happy because it is such a pain to apply but honestly they really NEED to wear it for the big comps!! :) :)

Hi! Just found this thread. Brittany (12) is a cheerleader for the 7th grade basketball team this year and is in love with it!

She came out to thew van after practice the other day and said "Guess what, Mom!?!?!? I'M A FLYER!!!!!!!"

I say "What's a flyer?" WISH I DIDN'T ASK!!!!

Anyway, I see many years ahed of me in the world of cheerleading!

No I understand, but this first one was at a local highschool. Our uniforms are already so much nicer then the other groups around us. We are in a rural area where the cheer clubs normally were really outdated uniforms. So the glitter was really not a need here. Yes it is a pain but we wore it.

Now on the the competition. DD placed first! By like 20 points but then again it was local and the other groups stunts were no where near what our girls could do. So I am waiting for a "Big City" competiton until I see where we really are this year. DS was a crowd pleaser forsure in the jump off. If didn't make it past the first round. But the crowd loved him and he loved every minute of it.

That is terrific!!!! :) :) GREAT for her team!!!!
When do you go to the first big competition??

Ours next weekend is at a High School also but the competition in this state is just INCREDIBLE!!! THe teams that will be there are so good so it should be a very nerve wracking competition!!! :) :)

Will anyone be at the WSF Indy Showdown in Indianpolis this coming weekend? DD's team will be competing for a bid to World's!!! My nerves are already shot as she is just recovering from a back injury and she is a flyer!! Her back flexibility is still not quite where it should be but as long as she is safe and stays in the air I will be happy. In time, she will be back to 100%!! She has also changed her tumbling to a safer pass for this competition until she is fully recovered!!!

I can't believe the season is under way already!!

Good luck everyone and keep posting accomplishments!!

Well, DD's team did it! First Place. We are going to Nationals in Orlando next week! They did such a great job. I now have 10 days to fundraise!!:cheer2:

Hi and congratulations.... were you at the springfield Marriott? I was there with my DS13 and his ice hockey team... the boys were sure happy to see all of the cheerleaders at our hotel...:rotfl2:

Mind if I join? I am a reluctant Cheer Mom. :cheer2: :cheer2:

My wee girl is 5-years-old and started cheering this year. She has been obsessed with cheering since she saw parts of the movie "Bring it On" (yes, I know I am a bad Mom.  She didn’t see anything questionable, though!) and so we signed her up for the local Youth Rec cheerleading squads. Now that football is over, she is on the Youth Rec competition squad. They just started practice a couple of weeks ago, and their first competition is February 2nd in Laurel, MD. My understanding is that they compete against other Youth Rec groups and not the big groups like All-Stars and all that. I don’t know their level, but I want to say Mini’s, or something like that.

I have been fairly impressed with the Youth Rec group, but I am not a fan of my Daughter's coach. She is the head of the whole organization though, which makes it fairly hard to complain about her. My girl loves it though, so off we go for winter cheering.

Hi Everyone!

I have a 7 year old daughter that cheers for YCOA. :cheer2: My daughter dances competitively so we wanted a cheer organization where she learned everything but was not so time consuming. 5 nights at the dance studio a week was enough for us.:rolleyes1 YCOA fits us perfectly for now. They do competitions in the Fall, Spring and Summer. She has an awesome coach who has taken her varsity team to state and nationals the last 2 years. They are big on parades here locally in the winter which the girls think is so much fun. She started out more than 3 years ago on JV got bumped to Varsity last year and is getting bumped to Jr All Stars this spring.

Anyway, glad to have found this thread and all the cheer moms out there.

It is American Youth Football, so, I suppose they are runningit. It isn't her allstar team, so not an allstar company.

No. Not us. I think Pop Warner football/cheer had their regionals in Springfield. We were in Worcester, MA. Our girls are at the age where boys are EVERYTHING. I am glad we weren't there. The get distracted very easily!

HAha It was funny.....of course we were at a tournament so they were not at the hotel much..... better for all of the parents..:lmao:

I cant believe you only have 10 days notice before a FLA trip.....that is something..but i guess you know if your group has a shot and prepare for it as much s possible!
A few years ago the Ice Hockey Nationals was in Alaska..and a team from our area ( NJ)made it..Yikes!

Lots of luck to your team!!Have a safe Journey!!:cheer2:

The competition is at the University of Central Florida. They league has to make all of our reservations, so I have no idea what time we are leaving, where we are staying or when we return. I had to leave them my credit card # and hope for the best.:confused3
