Here's a question for everyone...my husband is obsessed about getting passports for the cruise. He is paranoid that we will not be able to go on the cruise without passports. He mentions this every time we discuss any aspect of the cruise. He has convinced himself that our vacation will be ruined if we don't get passports. Normally, I'd just get the passports to put his mind at ease. But, I think it is too late now to get passports. Any words of wisdom from anyone out there? Anyone else out there whose spouse is driving you crazy like this?

It never hurts to have a passport. Remember it is the most official proof of birth that there is. And for that matter the most official proof of where you reside. You should have enough time to get them.

BEFORE 9-1-1, your Congressman could help you expedite a passport. I'm not sure if that has changed or not.

If you get on it right away, you should have time to get passports. They say 6 weeks and we have 9 (ish) to go if I remember someone's count recently. It's always good to have them, and they're good for 10 years.

We applied for ours at the end of may and the web site tells us to estimate delivery on the 15th of July, approximately 6 weeks processing time. It might be cutting a little close now, as you have to give them your actual birht certificate, so if they run late, you won't have the other form of ID you'd need if not using a passport. However, you can pay an additional fee, I think it's $60 per applicant and get expidited processing, I think that's abou two weeks

For this September, passports are not required. Your original or certified (with the raised seal) copy and a photo driver's license will be acceptable. We went ahead and sprung for the passports now because we had the extra money and figured might as well get it over with. Even if year end dead line gets moved out again, we'll be covered anyway.

Is the birth certificate/photo id (or passport) only needed when boarding for the first time? Can you reenter from the ports without it?

Yes. The birth certificate is for the first entry only. You do need a photo id to get back on the ship at the ports of call. We use our passports, but I believe a drivers license works.

That works for me :) A drivers license (and KTTW?) is easy to deal with. We thought the idea of the passports was a good one, but looking at the cost for a family of 4 scared me!!!!

Thank you everyone for you help on this matter. I think we will go the birth certificate/drivers license route this time. It would be at least another week or two before DH and I would have time off together to go get pictures and turn in paperwork. I don't want to cut it too close, since we would need to mail off our original birth certificates.

We must be getting close. The DW is starting to read the menu's and the pestering me as to what we are going to be doing on the islands. She went out this afternoon and bought some blouses for the trip.

Let the excitement build.

HOORAY!! :cool1: YIPPEE!! :woohoo: WOOHOO!!! :jumping1:

At long last, I made my final payment....I had some unexpected things come up and had trouble paying by the due date, so I was sweating bullets, hoping DCL wouldn't cancel me. NOW I can really get excited and start saving spending money for the cruise! :dancer:

Holly,

Congrats on getting that final pmt in. :)

Aw, don't worry about it. Dinner at Animator's Palette is on me! (Tiz the kind of guy I am!) :rotfl2:

(Seriously, congratulations!!)

Congrats Holly!!! Hi all! We are getting sooooo close! We are currently down at our Florida home. On July 2nd we ventured in to MK and they had a soft opening for POTC the ride! It was PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!! They did a great job with Jack Sparrow and have made his movements so fluid you would swear he was really standing there! There are some other really cool new aspects to the ride! Try to fit it in before heading over to the Magic!!!! :thumbsup2

Have a great day all!

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: Gee, thanks......I'd hate to think I might possibly starve on the cruise! But seriously, now I can enjoy watching my little munchkin rip a link every day off our constuction paper countdown chain!

I know it's not fair to everybody who paid on time (as I have in the past), but I'm so grateful DCL worked with me. And my TA called them every day to remind them of the date I'd be paying. Gee....It almost feels like I'm joining the group all over again!

Geez Holly, wait until Disney wants the final payment on my MED cruise next winter. I'll be doing some serious tap dancing myself!!! :dancer:

I hear ya! Those Med cruises are way out of this single mom, part-time working, part-time student's budget! :sad2: Well, that's what dreams are for, huh?! :wizard:

Just received the passports for our two youngest. All that's left to do is wait and pack.

Uggghhh....I'll have to get a passport too for my January cruise. But I guess I'll have to wait to do that until after getting back from this cruise.

It has become a pretty painless process. The state dept now has a form online that you can fill out online and then print out. They only took about four weeks to get them back to us. We are just pleased to have the birth cert's back in hand.

Regarding the group getting together, I vote for a gathering in the promanade lounge on Saturday. Anyone else have an opinion?
