Sadly, :sad2: (or not so sadly, depending how you look at it) this won't work for me. If it all works out, I'll be cruising (on another cruise line *choke*) that weekend. DD's dance company has been asked to perform on this ship, and Ken and I are going along for the ride.

I see there are others being held in Nashville and St. Louis too. Since I'm in the middle of nowhere, these are the closest for me. Both are in the spring. Anyone interested? I'm going to my first crop EVER on Friday!

I think I am going over to the dark side :darth:

That doesn't sound sad to me, that sounds like an incredible opportunity and you are so lucky you and Ken will be able to see her perform!!

I do recommend going to any of the CKC's there are all basically the same with very similar classes. For those who live really close to one, you could go just for the day, take one or 2 classes and hit the vendor fair.

Ok, I'm going to post who I have in for the circle journal, and if I don't have you on the list, please send me a PM with your address. I think that I'm missing a couple of people, but maybe not.

Stacy, Amy and I were talking about scrapbooking conventions last night in chat and I gave Stacy the website. http://www.ckscrapbookevents.com/ Buffalo isn't too far from a lot of you guys. Maybe by the if you are all converted to the dark side some of us can meet up and take some of the Disney classes!

If you guys do Shuffle off to Buffalo, I can meet up!

It's not the same as the one in Orlando, it's exactly the same as the one I went to in Valley Forge in July. It's usually goes late Thursday through late Saturday night I believe. We got there late Thurs and left late Saturday afternoon. It's usually held at a hotel convention center and a few months before the date all these classes open up. It's kind of like CRT the way booking for classes go! The "good" classes fill up within minutes of opening. You can take as many or as little classes as you'd like and the only costs there are are associated with each class that you take. (And hotel) There's also a vendor fair which you can think of as a giant flea market with aisles and aisles of scrapbooking companies from all over the country. Each has their own booth, their own sales and specials and you wander from booth to booth. Last year we didn't make it through the whole place there were so many things. There is a cost to get into the vendor fair for a day pass like $8 but if you take so many classes (like 5) you get in for free. Then after the classes are done for the day, there's crops you can sign up for. We didn't do any crops but I heard there were incredible door prizes and gifts. With these things, it's all about the gifts, and we got some really nice things. This is called CKC

There's also something else called CKU that Amy can elaborate more on. There's one in Orlando in October. (Still not the same thing I went to). From what I understand it's like college, where you take so many classes and have teams and stuff like that. More structure to it.

The Orlando SDV that I went to was really nice, but being at WDW at the YC no less my attention was more to Disney than to scrapping. I'd do it again if it wasn't at Disney World. There's one in Atlantic City. For that you paid X amount and got so many nights hotel and you got a spot at a table where you could come and go and scrap 24 hours a day. There were also classes, but no where near as many as the ones at CKC. It also included certain meals.

It sounds incredible!!!

But....the people who go to these, are they all top notch, very experienced scrappers? Or will people like me, just starting out, still fit in???

Yeah what she said. We don't want to look out of place!

It does sound like a lot of fun - would like to try it if we won't look too odd being there.

If we all go together and hide behind the experienced ones it may be ok! :rotfl2:

Glad you got a date for the surgery. The 7th will only be 1 week and 2 days after your surgery. You shouldn't be in any pain but you might tire very easily. It took me about 2-3 weeks to feel back to 100%. The pain was very minimal, I think I only took pain pills the day I came home and 1 or 2 nights after that. Then again you are much younger than I am so you might have an easier time and won't get tired out as easily. pixiedust:

I'd be interested in doing this as well gang - as long as it's a free weekend for me and Matt gives the ok. Of course Amy and Diana will need to provide tips on how to pack for a scrap weekend and fly!
Julie, the Great American Scrapbook Convention (GASC) is in Arlington in June. A whole group from the DIS usually gets together for some/all of the evening crops. They usually have at least one or two Disney classes, too.

I'm already trying to figure out how to go to the next one - maybe have a newborn tag along while Ian stays home with daddy - for one or two of the crops. I figure it will be a great way to get CJ pages done. (Last year I got most of Ian's 1st trip to WDW album done there in two nights.)

I just looked it up and the next one is June 7-9, 2007 at the Arlington Convention Center. Sometime in March or April they'll have registration at http://www.greatamericanscrapbook.com/

Don't worry we booked the non-refundable rate too. I heard it's going to be a balmy 50 degrees and sunny that weekend! ;)

The one I went to in Valley Forge last year was the first time I ever went to anything like this. There's were hundreds of people. Some crazy crazy scrapbookers that had all sorts of gadgets and gizmos and amazing bags of gear. Some total new people that didn't know what a glue stick was. Most were in betweens. I was an inbetween and most of you would be to by June with the CJ under your belt.

The best thing about going to something like this with different classes is that you sign up for what you want to learn. There's beginner, intermediate and expert classes. The real difference is how fast the instructors go through the material, not how hard the technique is. Think about it this way--you go to a class to learn a new technique. Everyone is new to it, so no one looks like a dummy because you're all doing it for the first time. Every class I went to, the project came out half done with instructions to finish it up (and all the pieces)

Gail, with our group, we're going to look odd no matter where we go!

No seriously, there are so ODD people that go to these things. And ODD is a nice word for them.

How is Nick handling this? I could see my kids being really upset. :(

Nick is doing better today. HE slept with me last night and held my hand all night long. This morning he was a bit nervous because of the broken door. BUT he seems to be good now. We are going to Home Depot to pick up another door.
