Oh, I know all about that type of thing. That's what happened to me 2 years ago with AT&T. I REALLY feel for those families!!!

Geez, double ouch then. It's not a friendly climate for the suvs. Gas being so expensive a lot of people are deciding the space isn't worth the cost anymore, and those have been the staple product for the big two. At least Ford had some inkling in dropping the Excursion, GM simply announced another 'redesign' of their fullsizes thinking that'd help somehow. The bottom line now is mileage. I work in a very upscale area, lots of sahms running around all day. Used to be lots of Ford and Gm fullsizes, mostly the Navigators and such. Now I'm seeing more and more of these in between mini-v types.
That's our dilemma here! We have an Expedition, and gas is getting outrageous. But, thankfully, it's going down for now. But, we own it now, so it would cost me more to have another car payment, so for now, we're keeping the gas-guzzler. But, we will get a more gas-efficient car in the future.

Ok, so I just realized that I have just under 400 more posts to make it to 5,000. So, I'm going to do my part to at least get to 5,000 in the next 5 weeks. I figure that's about 11 posts a day, which is entirely possible for me. :thumbsup2

Chris - it is nerve racking for all of us Ford families - Jen doesn't know if she'll have a job to go back to. Hope Mike weathers this storm at Ford okay. It's not a fun time here either.

Tonite is Cruise chat - I hope to be there but it seems that I said I would babysit cuz Jen and her dh want to go to the Tiger game - here's the link in case anyone needs it still -

In honor of Friday and the new cruisers joining us I think it is time for another round of GTKYKFC (or Getting To Know Your Krazy Fellow Cruisers).

1) What is your packing strategy? (do you pack a week ahead, the night before, the day you leave, etc.) I like to pack the night before. KAREN, my beloved, doesn't even sleep the night before. She will be packing, doing the precruise rituals etc ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT. She crawls through security then sleeps on the plane.

2) Do you have any pre-vacation rituals? Ask Karen (She who must be obeyed!)

3) What deck are you on for this cruise and what do you like best about that location? Normally, we're on deck two, port side (left - facing front). We heard that the lower you were to the water the easier it was to handle the rockin-and-rollin. Don't know if this is true, but it's the pattern we've followed. THIS TRIP, we're on deck 7 (7623) inside port. We did that because of money.. It's gonna be dark in there!!!:scared1:

4) What category are you in and what made that your choice? See above

5) Where are you staying the night before and why did you choose that location? Our fav resort OKW.

:cool1: Ok, caught up. Only took three hours. Luckily the phone only rang a couple of time and only one or two walkins.

My hopes go out to the Ford Families - may the coming months go smoothly. I am also in a period of transisition the Army installation I work for did NOT survive the last round of Base Realignments. I have no IDEA where I will be working in the next 24 months so I can understand the apprehension that you are feeling. Michigan is tough - we'll get through this and then move on to the next problem.

Looking at my stats I have an average of 0.99 posts per day. Working on kicking that one over the curb and then some. (What will I do in November? :scared1: )

I feel for you! DH works for Intel and layoffs are looming. Pixie dust for all these big companies still in financial lows.

Chris,

Did you follow our saga trying to buy a new Ford Explorer. The sales manager basically let the deal fall through over $200. With that kind of thought process it is no wonder Ford is not selling the big stuff! Trust me we have been looking at hybrids but thought if the deal was right we would buy an Explorer. DH drives a Ford Ranger right now so the gas wouldn't be any different. But alas no new Explorer for us.

Chris, it's so tough to live with the uncertainty with layoffs coming. pixiedust: We've gone through it here with Bruce working for GE and still every year the buzz starts about the plant closing entirely.

We have a Trailblazer that I love but have started to look into the hybrids. Right now we just can't justify the extra cost in vehicle for the better fuel rating. Mark, our town in the same way, more and more minivans roaming around. I still swear never ever, no minivan for me! (No offense MV owners, I just can't get myself there and I love having the 4 wheel drive.

Forgot to wish Gail and John and Carol and Joe a Bon Voyage - have a great time kids! :sail:

Thanks for all the Bon Voyage's. Gail & John should be arriving at Metro Airport as I type. We will be leaving around 3pm and arriving in Orlando just in time for rush hour.

Prayers for all those with pending job losses. We just went through that earlier this year. DH went in to work one am and by noon had been told his job was being eliminated in 30 days. No forewarning, so it was a complete shock. He has since found a job, but unfortunately less pay. Because of the job change we had to cancel the Member's Cruise. Didn't think it would sound too good to ask for 2 weeks off in September for a cruise and another week off in October for a cruise. Gee, jobs sure do get in the way of having fun. We do plan on being in Orlando when you all return. Gotta hear all the great stories from those who will be staying in Orlando for the weekend after your cruise.

Well back to the final packing before dh comes home to pack the car. Stopped at Krispy Kreme already and got Gail some donuts (well some for me too!)

Carol

Bon Voyage!!!!

Great minds think alike, that's why I needed someone else to say it first. Color us in for SSMC07 !!

1) What is your packing strategy? (do you pack a week ahead, the night before, the day you leave, etc.) Normally I start getting organized the weekend before and then pack that week, take things out, put more in etc. This year we need to pack differently so we'll be taking one or two bags on the ship and leaving 2 bags and a wedding dress at the Yacht Club with their baggage team. Poor Matt who will have to put up with my packing strategy ;)

2) Do you have any pre-vacation rituals? We do like to drop the pets off at the kennel - it's better than leaving them alone for 2 weeks. :rotfl: Other than that we like to arrive the day before the cruise to allow for travel delays!

3) What deck are you on for this cruise and what do you like best about that location? 6 all the way! Well we could find our room last year so we figured why not again!

4) What category are you in and what made that your choice? I think cat 6 as we have a verandah but I honestly don't recall. We booked lower than that for the Med cruise because of $$$.

5) Where are you staying the night before and why did you choose that location? BCV - whew, cleared the waitlist! We selected it because we are staying at the Yacht Club following the cruise for the wedding and we wanted to be close by.
