Nap time? What's nap time? I CANNOT get Ian to take a nap in his bed during the day. He'll just scream and scream and scream, for an hour or more if I let him. So we take lots of afternoon rides in the car, or at least go out to the car and get ready to leave. Often Ian will be "out" before we even get out of the driveway so I'll just sit there with the A/C running while he sleeps. Yesterday I did bring a laptop out and DIS'd in the driveway. But no way can I get any housework or crafting done during that time. Too bad too, but oh well.

I highly recommend the book "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems" (it MIGHT be "SolvING Your Child's Sleep Problems" by Richard Ferber. We also had a non-sleeper and it drove me to the edge. If I wasn't married, I'd marry Richard Ferber!!! :lmao: At the very least, he prevented child abuse!! HA!

We have an outside cat. He stays out ALL the time.....unless it is bitter bitter cold (you know, wind chills below 0 degrees) He has one of those igloos and it's actually so warm in there in the winter he creates condensation on the inside of the flap.

He is VERY VERY good at catching us things. But....be warned. Sometimes our cat leaves them there dead. No problem. Sometimes he eats ALL of them.....

but sometimes....like the other day.....there was the back end of a mouse.....a trail of nasty guts.....and then about 6 inches away.....the head.

There is usually something out there for us several times a week.

Oh lovely. :crazy2: Maybe that's not such a great idea.

Robin, he will learn to fall asleep in his bed if you allow him to learn. As long as your driving him around, he's never going to master this very important skill. What you will find is that one day, he may scream all the way through nap time. So, as long as he's not hurt/hungry/in need of a diaper change, he will either fall asleep or not. The important thing for him to realize is that your not coming back.

The next day, he may scream again.

And maybe the next.

But the day after that, he'll finally fall asleep. He may not sleep for an entire nap, but he should sleep.

And, the day after that, it will be even easier.

And, easier and easier.

I have one right now that I'm teaching to fall asleep. Trust me, I've been there, several, several times. And they do get it and turn out to be great sleepers.

I took care of a little boy from 10 weeks until 5 years old. He learned to sleep at my house and did so for all those years. I truly believe that he had the best "quality" sleeptime at my house. At home, he wouldn't sleep in his own bed, would get up when he chose, fall asleep where he did.

It will be much harder on you than on Ian. And you might find that within a week or two, you truly have some down time to your self.

AMEN!! Totally agree. If they learn to fall asleep with "help" (rocking, bottles, cars, etc) it's hard to learn to fall asleep on their own.

We did check on KT when she "cried it out." But didn't pick her up. Ferber has a method to keep increasing the amount of time you stay away....first check after 5 minutes, then 10, then 15....but DON'T pick them up. Pat them, reassure them you haven't abandoned them, then leave. It took a good solid week (if my memory serves me right) to really turn a corner and have KT falling asleep on her own. It WAS harder on me than it was on KT (although she was too young to ask!) :lmao:

I think that sounds really reasonable....as long as shipping is reasonable. I could see spending $2.50-$3.00 a bag, but if shipping is $6 on 4 bags, then you're talking $4 a bag. Ick.

I lost a squishy thing to my iPod headphones last time I went camping. We have NEVER seen them at retail places and Sony didn't carry them on their website (figures) but I found them on ebay. Well, I HAD to have them b/c it HURT to jam a headphone in my ear without the squishy thing. They charged me something like $5.00 for shipping (which I knew about in advance, so I can't grumble) but they ended up coming in a regular envelope with about $0.60 of postage on them. SHUCKS. For THAT price at LEAST give me a padded envelope!!!!

I'm not a big shipping fee charger, and I'm guessing it's gonna be cheap to ship these because well, they weigh absolutely nothing. Once I get my prototypes set up and mock shipping package I'll find out what the actual charges will be.

I lost my squishy thing too!! It was stupid because it was in my ear, then I pulled the earbud out and it was gone. :confused3 I looked all around the elliptical machine I was using and nothing. I kept sticking my finger in my ear thinking it must be still stuck in there. :lmao: Never found it. I guess I won't be buying a replacement on ebay. :lmao:

We have quiet-time. They both have to go into their room, sit in their beds with a book, a toy and quietly play.

We did that too after they officially gave up naps. More for MY sanity than anything. And you're right....sometimes they did just konk out. They didn't want to, but their bodies told them they had to. Sometimes they just don't want to stop having fun to listen to their bodies. (kinda like potty training and accidents, but that's a whole 'nuter can of worms)

We had to do that with our DS as a baby. That first sleep is the hardest (on the parent), but it does get easier each time. Now that he is older we can just tell him - go to sleep! He doesn't even cry anymore (now that he is 10).
Good luck
Chris

My first was the bad sleeper (maybe b/c I had time to hold her during naps at first) My second was great. He STILL will put himself to bed if he's tired even if "life" is happening full speed around him! :)

I will never understand children's way of thinking. If I could get a nap every afternoon, I'd feel so much better at the end of the day and maybe, just maybe, I'd be able to stay awake past 9 p.m. :cool2:

I spent five hours at a Mutual Aid department this morning and then tried to catch up DIDNT make it so I will try and get to the end byefore I have to leave for a meeting tonight. I hope everyone is having a good day!

Like an appendix. I remember when I woke up after my surgery that Mark told me the surgeon told him he had taken it out as long as he was in there. He said it wasn't needed and that he only told Mark so that if I ever complained about having an appendicites that it couldn't be true. :lmao:

That's one but I was thinking of other parts of your gut that you can live without.

:surfweb: Morning everyone,

Now that the big stones have been passed I promise I'll cool it on the posts. (Sorry, milestones. Don't want to get confused with other topics running here)

Since your driving next month, ask and ye shall receive. I'm going up to my mom's place tonight anyway, so I'll post me in my A's for a lark.:clown:

If you post one in your A's I'll post one of me in my A's!

Congrats on milestone posts Curt and Janet!

Nice dress Julie.

Sorry to hear of your cancelling MickeyMagic.

Welcome Cubbybear1!

Cheryl, Good luck with your surgery!

Great scrapbooking pages to all who posted them (and other stuff Diana)!

Stacy, Unlike some at our table I won't laugh if you start burping (truth is this happens to me sometimes).

For those wondering about the Cars at Indy Speedway attraction, Yes I did hear this from several people including a CM a few weeks back. I thought Cars was going to be at Millionaire but that will be a Toy Story ride (why do we need another, we have Buzz Lightyear already?).

I'm forgeting something but this wasn't bad for remembering about 25-30 pages.

I'll answer the GTKYFKC questions when I get home from work.

:cool1: I know Cameron would be thrilled to go back to any of the camps he went to this year. Neat for Nick, as he already knows the lay of the land.

I got an email from his teacher and I'm one of the chaperones for this trip! :cool1:

With all the camping we have been doing lately we have picked up some cool gear so I'm almost all tricked out!

That would be so cool if Cars theming went into the speedway but I'm sure there's going to be a lot of protest about Tomorrowland moveing more towards Pixar theme land. For our family it would be awesome since I truly believe Emma is the biggest Cars fan on the planet. However, I'm not at all looking forward to waiting in that line. I've managed to avoid that ride for years because well, it's boring and the line is always horrendous!

Oh, camping gear. That's near and dear in this house. What did you get???

As a matter of fact, on my list of things to do is to make a bunch of these is Christmas-y paper and sell them on ebay. They are perfect for gift cards. I'm also thinking about doing baby and wedding themed ones with candies in them for baby/bridal shower favors.

So YES--I am for hire!!

OOOH that would be awesome Diana!!! Let me know when that happens :)

And those cars move SO slow. :snail:

When Cameron & I went in October, we rode the very last ride of the night. I got back and I'm wondering, where the heck is Cameron. He's not coming around the bend and when he finally appears, there is a CM sitting next to him.

So, I laugh and ask if he's picking up girls along the way. The CM gets out and starts complaining about what a terrible car it was, how it didn't have any speed and putted along. I thought it was just us that thought they went at a :snail: pace. :rotfl2:

I still have mine turned on because I am too lazy to turn them off. This morning I am still getting posts from yesterday. For some reason mine don't come until 12 to 24 hours later. I guess we are just talking too much. :rotfl2:

I can't believe that we were cruising 1 year ago. It really seems like it was just yesterday.

This is what happens to me with my PM notifications - I think it's cause I use my hotmail on the DIS rather than my yahoo. I love my yahoo email notifications - lol makes me feel special!

Did some surfing on the DIS at lunch and came across a post on the DVC boards back from booking day. Saw many names on that thread that booked but i don't think ever made it over here. I gave it a bump and posted a link back to here. I hope some of them show up and join us. The more the merrier!

That's great Mary! I hope they join us!

BTW - Welcome CUBBYBEAR1!!!! I grew up in Iowa (go HAWKEYES) and moved to Chicago after college (GO CUBS, GO BEARS) and now live in Texas due to a job I used to have (better weather).
