Hi Connie -- nice to see you post!

Connie - nice to see you posting! We did Disneyland last December and loved it. Enjoy!

Good morning everyone! Happy Hump Day! Looks like it is going to be another beautiful day here in Chicago.

:surfweb: Morning all! :wave2:
Wholly Toledo! I couldn't believe how many pages I had to read to get caought up!!

Steve - You crack me up like no other. I guess we know where you'll be having lunch EVERY Monday!! :lmao:

Connie - :welcome: Welcome to the Looney Bin! Hold on you in for a fun ride!!

Ok let me see about answering these questions!

What was the #1 reason you booked this particular cruise?
We had such an awesome time on the last member cruise we couldn't pass it up!!
What excursions are you looking at for Castaway Cay?
The Banana boat!!
Are you hoping that DVC offers some exclusive merchandise for sale again?
But of course! I like having uniquie items!
If you could only visit one Disney park on a visit which would it be and why?
That would probably be Epcot. It's Nick's favorite park right now.
Are you planning any time before or after the cruise at WDW? If so when.
We are flying in the day before so that we can make the pre-cruise meet and will be staying until the Sunday after the cruise and will be at the Boardwalk both times.
What do you think makes DIS DVC'ers different from other DVC'ers?
DVC is awesome but with having a community of DVC Dis'ers who "get it" more so then other DVC'ers makes it that much more special. It's hard to decribe but I imagine you guys all know what I mean.

Good morning. :surfweb:

It looks like it might be a nice day around here. They are forecasting the possibility of rain but it should be warm enough to head over to the pool with the kids today. :cheer2: :cheer2: It will be the first time this year and they are going to love it. :Pinkbounc

Banana Boat update - thanks to Cindy I have a current list which has 14 women and 8 men. I sent off a note to the excursion manager who is holding one boat for us. I wanted to confirm which day she is holding it for (we have a 1 pm reservation) and how billing will work. I'm hoping that I can forward her the list with full names and cabin numbers and she can bill each cabin individually.

I have also asked about a 2nd boat for right after the first one for the guys. This has not been booked yet - I've only asked about it.

A lot is going to depend on how they can do billing.

I'll keep everyone up to date.

Okay, I think I'm caught up.

Steve - I have to tell you that my lil' grand-nephew's favorite place to eat with his daddy is "Hooters - hubba, hubba" and that is exactly what he told me when I was visiting in Delaware and he's only 2 1/2 yrs old!

I'll be travelling back to my sis' in DE in July - she is not doing too well but she did enjoy the quick visit I just had with the baby.

I didn't get anything from MS about the cruise - wonder if I should start worrying? Did it come "snail mail" ?

I'll try and play the GTKYFKK game later on - I'm out to do my 3 mile walk this morning. :cool1:

I was curious as to why today is Flag Day and I found this:

The History Of Flag Day
The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America's birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as 'Flag Birthday'. In numerous magazines and newspaper articles and public addresses over the following years, Cigrand continued to enthusiastically advocate the observance of June 14 as 'Flag Birthday', or 'Flag Day'.

On June 14, 1889, George Balch, a kindergarten teacher in New York City, planned appropriate ceremonies for the children of his school, and his idea of observing Flag Day was later adopted by the State Board of Education of New York. On June 14, 1891, the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia held a Flag Day celebration, and on June 14 of the following year, the New York Society of the Sons of the Revolution, celebrated Flag Day.

Following the suggestion of Colonel J Granville Leach (at the time historian of the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution), the Pennsylvania Society of Colonial Dames of America on April 25, 1893 adopted a resolution requesting the mayor of Philadelphia and all others in authority and all private citizens to display the Flag on June 14th. Leach went on to recommend that thereafter the day be known as 'Flag Day', and on that day, school children be assembled for appropriate exercises, with each child being given a small Flag.

Two weeks later on May 8th, the Board of Managers of the Pennsylvania Society of Sons of the Revolution unanimously endorsed the action of the Pennsylvania Society of Colonial Dames. As a result of the resolution, Dr. Edward Brooks, then Superintendent of Public Schools of Philadelphia, directed that Flag Day exercises be held on June 14, 1893 in Independence Square. School children were assembled, each carrying a small Flag, and patriotic songs were sung and addresses delivered.

In 1894, the governor of New York directed that on June 14 the Flag be displayed on all public buildings. With BJ Cigrand and Leroy Van Horn as the moving spirits, the Illinois organization, known as the American Flag Day Association, was organized for the purpose of promoting the holding of Flag Day exercises. On June 14th, 1894, under the auspices of this association, the first general public school children's celebration of Flag Day in Chicago was held in Douglas, Garfield, Humboldt, Lincoln, and Washington Parks, with more than 300,000 children participating.

Adults, too, participated in patriotic programs. Franklin K. Lane, Secretary of the Interior, delivered a 1914 Flag Day address in which he repeated words he said the flag had spoken to him that morning: "I am what you make me; nothing more. I swing before your eyes as a bright gleam of color, a symbol of yourself."

Inspired by these three decades of state and local celebrations, Flag Day - the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777 - was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson on May 30th, 1916. While Flag Day was celebrated in various communities for years after Wilson's proclamation, it was not until August 3rd, 1949, that President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day.

For me, Flag Day is also the reminder of the day my Dad died. 26 years ago today -- it seems in so many ways that it was yesterday. I am very glad that Flag Day is it's own holiday and never is the same as Father's Day. :(

Annmarie,
It sounds like we have quite a bit in common. We will be at the parks after the cruise too but couldn't get into BCV. We have ressies at Pop Century or ASMo (can't remember which). We don't have that many points anyway so I hate using them for weekends.
Enjoy a nice sunny summer day here in MA.

Just a quick HI, I am caught up, but I did skim a but...

Ilene, did you ever get your insurance question answered... PM me and I will give you the scoop and the phone numbers...

:figment:

PS... I don't think that the Banana Boat is for me, but Ian might want to eat it... he loves bananas... ')

Thanks Mary! Don't the  boats hold only 15-20 people. I think we definitly need 2  boats.

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing today. We went to see Cars last night and enjoyed it alot. The animation is top notch and the backgrounds look very realistic at times. I am getting ready for my annual fishing trip with my dad. We leave next friday to go to the Lake of The Woods in Canada ( www.whitepinelodge.com ) It is a great time every year and we really look forward to it!. After that Coleen and I may take a couple weekend journeys to get us through untl Oct. and our DVC members cruise :cheer2: Hope you all have a good day!

We will need a 2nd boat because the guys are going on that one. When I first asked I didn't want to push it and immediately ask for 2 (didn't know if I could even get one). I just meant if the bill for the whole boat has to go on our room I'm not sure I'm up for taking 2 KWIM? We'll see what they say.

I got an out of office reply from my contact so it will be a week or two until I hear anything.

Mary, if it has to be charged to your room in order to do this, why don't we just pay up front before the cruise so that you can pay it off right after the fact. That way you wouldn't have to be worried about it being charged to your room. The only negative might be if it doesn't happen for some reason (but we're not even going there pixiedust: ) then the funds would have to be refunded.

Just an idea.

We'll just wait and see what the excursion manager says. I did ask about a 2nd boat so we'll see.

On another note. If any (Tina, Coleen/Steve) from the Chicago area wants to get together on Sunday morning we have a mini DIS meet planned with Curt/Karen for breakfast. It is kind of last minute but if anyone wants to join us we'll be at Omega's in Niles, IL Sunday morning at about 8:30. Let Cindy or I know so we can save room for you at the table.

Hmmm, this could be a VERY interesting cruise with all these unbalanced people. Mark, you may want to bring your friends along. I'm sure they could help in picking us up. Now isn't this the same group of ladies that are planning to be on(?) the banana boat ride? I see a very interesting ride ahead for this group.

Carol

Hmm being that I witnessed one of the falls last year in a certain club :rolleyes1 and that I am 1/2 of our lifeguard crew on the  boat perhaps we will have practice drills before hand for balance :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ok that's hilarious!

Thanks for the invite Mary, but we will take a pass. I am getting off shift on Sunday morning and dont usually get home much before 8 and Niles is about an 90 min drive or so (our DS played football up there when he was in HS). With it being fathers day we already have a full slate. Hope you all have fun and post some pics!
