On the Walking to Disney Challenge.....
does that include all the walking you do in a day, or just the exercise walking.

It is 1103 miles from my pc to Old Key West, where we are DVC owners, so that is the number I will use.

1103 miles/283 days works out to 4.6+ miles per day until the cruise. :thumbsup2

Everyone have a good week.

Hi Everyone

It sounds like we are going to have a real May Repo, 11 day southern, 2007 Med cruise party at the 2007 Disney Marathon. Shari, Alex and Carolyn (First Timers) are all planning on doing the 1/2 and full marathon next year(personally, I think they are nuts! or at least Goofy).

Wow! That would be like a "kick-off" gathering for the 2007 Med Repro!!! party:

Okay, for those of you who are old hands at this... what can you do to avoid blisters? Special socks, shoes, etc? Pixie Dust? pixiedust:

We walked to Crystal Cathedral and back this past December from Paradise Pier... 6+ miles round trip. By the time I got back to the room, I had blisters on my toes (UGH!)

Are there ways to prevent this when walking long distances? Inquiring toes want to know!!!

Thanks! This sounds like there would be a LOT of encouragement along the way to help you make it to the finish line! :cheer2:

That would be a fun time.

For blisters, I'm sure everyone has different things. Make sure your shoes fit properly and are not too old. Old shoes have lost their ability to absorb shock they way the are suppose to.

I would also recommend two products: "blister free" socks, I used Wrightsock brand socks and did pretty good. I did have two small blisters, but they never popped and they didn't hurt. I also like Bodyglide- not what is sounds like, but you put it anywhere and everywhere you might experience friction- like you feet- or where clothing or body parts might rub together. Skin wise, I did pretty good on the half marathon- couldn't complain. BTW- both products are available on the internet and in stores, just do a search for them.

Hope this helps.

Hey Georgie - it's Shari:

Blisters is more from sweat than anything else, although rubbing does it too. Good shoes (if you got them on your toes, then possibly the toe box isn't big enough), good socks (they say cool max in the socks help a lot and if you can find the time to change your socks half way through the event, that helps) and just good training - lots of time on those feet. Unfortunately, trial and error is probably your best bet - find what works for you and train, train, train. I didn't train enough this year and looked like a very old lady walking around on Sunday. I learned my lesson and will train better this year. I have three Breast Cancer 3-Days under my belt so I ought to be able to do this 39.3 mile challenge. Just think of all the company we'll have for the 1/2 marathon if we all go - Linda (seaulater) and her DD are training for the event now too.

Thanks Celeste + Shari! Good pointers from the pros!

13.2 miles... 3 1.2 hours??? Doable? :lmao:

Joe + I are trying to walk a hair over 2 miles a day... after work, we'll see. Today, I thought we were keeping a good pace, only to find we just made the minimum time :faint:

My Goodness! And they were our first 2 miles

I guess you really do have to stay focused! We'll see. Thanks for the tips!

Scott and I won't make the 2007 marathon as we are planning a trip to Tanzania in Jan 2007, but put us on the roster for Jan 2008. By that time, we may be living in Florida!

I am interested in the Walk to Disney, Celeste, don't know if you sent a pm to Scott because we have not had a chance to talk, if you haven't, would you please. I just got back from my daily dog walks, one is a good fitness walk of at least 2 miles, sometimes more, the second walk with my older dog is more like a stroll, but she has been walking 2 miles also lately.

Scott got home from Cheyenne late Saturday night, after I had gone to work. I saw him for a few minutes Sunday morning before I went to bed. Sunday afternoon we had a Scuba class, then I went back to work. Today at 2pm, Scott came home long enough to say he was headed out of town again, this time to Riverton. Don't know how long this will be, but we haven't seen much of each other lately :sad2:

Hope the cruisers are having fun!

Lynn :eeyore:

 Hi Everybody!!
Bob.. thanks for the picture thingy info! I'll give it a shot...

Joe wants to do the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge next year! He is insane! I will up the insurance and pray! A woman from here in Coral Springs did teh Goofy thing this year.. and she was 7 months pregnant!!!! She was a runner all the time though so I guess it was no big deal for her. I couldn't even walk when I was 7 months pregnant!!!
I will do the half next year... but that's it for me from now on. I got my Mickey Medal and it's hanging proudly in my family room, I don't need another one.... :wizard: I'll volunteer on Marathon day though and cheer you all on at one of the water stops!

Anyone wanting to train... definately go with the Cool Max socks .. they are great. If you google beginning runner ... you can find a lot of sites with training schedules and lots of great tips. Runnersworld.com comes to mind as well as waddle-on.com

For those of you who don't know: the 3-Day Avon Breast Cancer walk is 3 days where you walk 20 miles per day for a total of 60 miles! You are awesome! :worship: :worship:

Lynn, I will send you a PM.

Georige- what min. time are you talking about? The 16 miles minutes? If so, that is why you train! I did not train for the half the first time because I wasn't going to do it because of my knee, but I want to train for next year. I too was hobbeling around for the first few days after. I am walking 18 minute miles right now, giving my knee a break- but will have plenty of time to get to the point I need to. You will too!

What Lynn said, too much work, Off to Cheyenne tomorrow. Earning lots of comp time and Holiday Inn Priority Club points.

Hey Lynn we might be able to do the WDW 2007 Marathon if we go to Tanzania in Feb of 2007, We will see. Just wish it were more reasonable for us to get to FL.

Started very early this morn, time to head our for a run before I fall asleep. There is no snow here in Riverton.

Oh Scott and Lynn- it is kind of cute to see you two talk to each other via internet. I know it means you two are really busy and not getting a chance to see each other- but I still think it is sweet!

I just bought tickets for the Tut exhibit that starts in Chicago for May! I am super excited. :yay: I have wanted to go to this for a year and have been waiting for the tickets to go on sale.

Has anyone else been to it? I can't remember where else it has been so far...

We went to an exhibit of Ramses II in Denver about 20 years ago.....it was fantastic!!! I'll have to google it when I get home.

The computers on the ship are FAST compared to the dialup at Pop Century, but still not what I have at home!!!

Scott, maybe we could do the 2007 marathon on the way to Tanzania!

Welcome back Peter and Jenn and Tracy, we are looking forward to the review.

Hey Kelli,
I don't know if you are going to be in Florida for long after the cruise- but the exhibit is CURRENTLY in Ft. Lauderdale. If you have time- it might be worth the day trip. I know you can buy tickets online- http://www.kingtut.org

I'll have to chat with Keith...its only $25 per adult.....WAY cheaper than WDW, even with the gas prices....

Just got finished with the Pirates party..... pirate: a good time was had by all.....but I must admit, there's a BIG problem with this ship....

I swear we just got onboard, and tonight we found tip envelopes on the bed......that's just not right..... :sad2:

I did have an interesting encounter tonight....they came around to take pics of everyone in the dining room, and the photographer looked at me and said, "You've been on the Magic!"

Uh oh.....that can't be a good thing.....think he's seen the security tapes?!?!?!? :rolleyes1

Elaine, I'll try to remember to ask for you.....nn for now!

If you like it, let me know how you liked it.

Sorry you trip is almost over- We feel you pain! I do not like the last night....not one bit.

We just got our tickets for King Tut for March 2nd here in Ft. Lauderdale. I can't wait to go see it. It was very hard to get the tickets here - each day is sold out for months. Forget the weekends, they sold out almost at the beginning of the sales. We paid $22.50 (senior price) plus $7 for audio - and after I paid, I got a notice from Nat'l Geographic to get free audio. Go figure !!!! I missed another deal.

I'll let you know how it is. While at the doctor's recently, a lady told me that she didn't like it. There was not enough items and she thought there was going to be more. Some people just can't be pleased, I guess.
