One last thing...
I have been told by the waitstaff that if intend on paying by room charges for tip- that the amount is spread out to everyone. So- if your server does something special, please give them cash- individually. They also appreciate phone cards.

That is wierd, on our last cruise I think it allowed you to write the amount of tip for each of the servers individually, not combined so that each were sure to get the amount you wanted them to get.

While you can do that and it appears that it happens this way- that was not what I was told by my server and have read this on other sites. I had read this prior to my last cruise and asked her if it was true....she wouldn't answer- but she kept on telling us not to bother paying additional gratuities. I then has able to get my old server from a previous cruise- who was then working in Palo to confirm this. He said if you want it to go directly to the person- if it directly to them and in cash- otherwise it gets split. I was also told they could get in trouble for telling people this....

So, we always give the expected amount via room charge (already prepaid on my reservation) and give them extra in a handshake!

Now the snow is gone and the sun is shining, it is still not very warm-49 degrees.

We have always charged our tips to our room, and we have always had the option of changing the recommended tip, and the paper you get to give the person you are tipping has the amount on it that you are tipping.

For me, it is only Wednesday, (I have to work Saturday this week), but it will be a 50 hour week, so I will get some overtime.

OK, in reading the last post that was posted as I was composing this, it looks like we need to re-think our way of tipping.

I'm curious about the tipping process now that it was brought up, so I started a thread on the main cruise page and asked the questions about charging tips vs cash tips. Here is the first response I received from kmiles:

I was curious about how tips worked myself and so I spent a few minutes speaking with Guest Services about it on a previous cruise.

Here is how it was explained to me:

There is most certainly a "tip pool." Everytime you buy an alcoholic beverage (or other for-charge) items, you'll automatically be charged a 15% gratuity. You'll see this in your restaurant slips, bar slips, etc. ALL of this gratuity goes to the tip pool.

On those slips you'll also see a "Additional Gratuity" line. ALL additional gratuity that you place in this spot goes to the specific person who was serving you.

ALL of the money that you provide to your wait staff at the end of the cruise (Server, Assistant Server, Stateroom Hostess or Host) goes to them. None of that money goes into the pool regardless of the delivery method (cash or charge to the stateroom account).


I'll post anything other information as it comes in.

Attire, = There will be two (2) formal and two (2) semi formal evenings. There will be one (1) pirate(1)tropical nights. I guess that leaves nine (9) "cruise casual" nights were jeans are allowed in the dining rooms (don't even get me started!)

Food = There are plans to introduce new lunch and dinner menus so that no menu will be repeated during the course of the sailing.

Here's something to do on Castaway Cay

Castaway Cay Cabana Massage

In December of 2000, I was on the Disney Wonder for 3 nights. One
thing I had always wanted to do was to be the girl in the cabana, getting a massage. So after boarding the ship I made my way to the spa to see if I could get a reservation. I was surprised to find that there were only a couple of spots left, so I snagged the first of the day, 9am.

After docking at Castaway Cay, I rode the tram over to the cabana area and sat on one of the benches and waited for my turn. After entering the cabana and the introductions, I was instructed to strip down to my, and these are her exact words, “Well I don’t know what you call them, but I call them knickers” and get on the table, face down. She waited outside whilst I did so. A few moments later she came back in and we began. She started by asking what type of skin I had and if I had any allergies to any products. As I have very oily skin, I requested that no oils be used, she did have some oil free lotion that she used sparingly. Then she asked where I felt I was feeling stress so that she could concentrate on those areas. I am not a person who gets stressed easily and told her so.

She asked me why I was there then (which I thought was a bit strange) so I told her I wanted to be the girl in the commercial. She laughed and we got started. She did a nice full back, back of leg, and back of arms massage, and she did comment that I had no tight muscles, no stress at all and I was making her job easy. I was then covered up with the sheet and told to turn over. Then it was onto the front of my legs, arms and then the best part of all, the head massage. Personally, I could have taken the head massage for the full 45 minutes, as it was so relaxing I nearly fell asleep.

When she was finished she said I should just relax for about 10 minutes. After the 10 was up, she came back in and said “Get dressed, you are ok to go” I redressed, which by the way was just the top of my swim suit and a cover up, and she had my ticket ready for me to sign. I believe I paid $125.00 including the tip, and did not buy any products. She did tell me I could purchase any of the products she used before we started, and asked before I signed off on the ticket if I wanted anything, but I declined. There was no hard sell to buy anything. If you have the chance to do this, it is a great way to start your day on Castaway Cay. I came out relaxed, and spent the rest of the morning semi napping on a lounge chair.

Whenever I have a day off, the last day I work is Friday...then there's the last day you work before vacation which is an AWEsome Friday. Also, the ultimate Friday is the last day you (trust me, not me yet) work before you retire.

I'm just settling for pay day Fridays, which are pretty good to me!!! So, anyone else have a fav Friday?

No docs for me either today I just tried to call, and too late....I want my tracking number, and was going to ask just what this "letter" was that the CM Jack told me was holding up my docs? I plan to call tomorrow though.

What a bummer about Fantasmic. I think I will call tomorrow and give it a try for the 29th since we are staying 2 nights. I can't believe that it booked that quickly! WOW Rob, thanks so much for trying, and I hope both of us have success tomorrow!

Georgie, I don't even want to get into my sad story about ordering "my usual" size for formals, and how many I have gone through. I am still waiting for another exchange to arrive. After this, I give up and will eat at topsiders since I won't have a formal No spandex here, and no picture below the waist either for me!

Thanks Ken for the info on tipping. I would feel terrible that all these years by my charging the tips to my room I was cheating my serving team. I always fill in the amount I want and the recipients name. In turn I get a "ticket" with their name on it and the amount of my tip. Thank goodness it goes to them.

Don't take what I posted as the final word. It was second hand from someone else. Actually, I am very interested in finding out the full story. I've sent a message to DCL and asked the question about cash vs charge tipping. Hopefully I will get an answer from them.

Randall ... I don't know what kind of mint juleps you are drinking but MINE contain at LEAST 2 oz of the finest Kentucky bourbon!! Don't they sell them (the good ones) at the Blue Bayou??

To the best of my knowledge (which is very limited), there is only one place in Disneyland that you can buy drinks that contain alcohol and that place is not the Blue Bayou - it's upstairs from the Blue Bayou. Now, California Adventure is a different thing.
