You can add us to the list of folks who have yet to get anything about the cruise. I'm thinking that it is because we booked via DVC. I'm curious to know if there are a lot of you out there that are in the same boat (no pun intended!) as we are.

I've been timing a phone call to DVC every 5-7 days with some lame question or request to see if I can perhaps get any info out of them regarding a stateroom assignment. Last week when I called to ask if we'd see any info on excursions, I was referred to the web site. Apparently, nothing is being sent out (at least to those booked through DVC).

When I called today with a lame question about debarkation times (hey, I'm getting desperate!), I was told not to book a flight until after 1p.m.! Asked about the GTY status and was told we are still in limbo for a room #, but not to worry because Docs will go out in a couple of weeks and we'll find out our assignment then.

So... my question to you all is... any DVC'er out there who started in GTY status that has had a better experience at this yet with the DVC folks? So much for membership having its priveleges.

I guess I can go back to lurking this message board.. after all.. I've learned more about what is going on than what my "travel agent" is willing to divulge.

Went shopping today for the gifts for the scrapbook and needlepoint sessions. Bought the two gifts want to keep them for myself. Why do we do that??

I have bought so much "stuff" since I have been in S.C., I had to buy two suit cases to take everything back home. I hate to think what will be bought in two weeks at all the ports. Ugh!!!

Mikimous: I think all of us DVC'ers are in the same situation. Can't push them, just have to wait. At least we will be on the ship -either on lifeboats or chairs on deck. I'm just excited about going. JUST HANG IN THERE.....

My concern is mainly over the malaria issue. There are a number of malaria prophylaxis drugs on the market. I, personally, am not too keen on taking them. Doxycycline seems to be the simplest one there, but it can cause significant sun sensitivity. You must also take the meds for about one month after the exposure to the affected area. The once a week meds seem the easiest, but in looking at the CDC website, there are two different recommendations for Panama. I was curious if anybody had checked with someone more familiar than me. Recently , a patient saw me that had taken one of the meds and he suffered nausea and significant dizziness. It passed without problem many days after returning home. Any comments?

Doxycycline? That's what the vet prescribed for Furval the cat. Supposed to get rid of a parasite. Red blood cell or something? Amazing. (Doxycycline 15Mg/mL)

Doxycycline is a pretty standard antibiotic. That's what the military uses for malaria prophylaxis. It's in the same group as tetracycline et al.... good for pets too

Bill PS called Indiana today at the last second. No definitive advice. They were leaning toward the yellow fever vaccine. Unsure about the malaria. Didn't call my friend yet.

I dont think there is a time limit I ordered my Tux about 2 weeks ago.Also for the Repo cruise the rate of $85 normally for 7 days is for the whole 14 days so it is a good offer

Okay................don't know if anyone is interested in taking on a task.............but Laurie and I were talking via PM and I mentioned to her on the 10 day that I had made "tent cards" with everyone's pirate names for dinner on pirate night. There were 13 of us in our family on the cruise. I took clip art of Captain Hook and some other pirate stuff off one of the Disney sites and put things like...................Aarg........Ye Buxom Beauty.............Here sits Deadeye Jane (and so on and so forth)

Anyway, when we sat down for dinner that night I put the tent cards in front of each pirate at the table and then I told our servers that they could only call us by our pirate names at dinner and that we wouldn't answer to our normal names! The servers had a blast and so did we.

Well, since I'm doing the Mini Navigators, I don't have time to make tent cards for everyone for dinner that night, but Laurie thought someone out there is our Dis Board land might be looking to take on a project in their free time.....

Any takers out there?

UPDATE to my earlier post... got home and actually had an envelope in the mail from Disney Cruise Vacations. So.. I'll eat a little crow for my comment. Of course, it was nothing major.. just the passport letter that everyone else out there probably has had for quite a while.

Perhaps I should complain on this thread more often about an upgrade and getting my docs and ::oof::: the UPS guy will show up at our door tonight!

By the way, Disney is certainly a little optimistic on their notice about passports. I don't think that I'd want to push the time frame much longer to be sending in for one. 43 days away from sail date would be cutting it close.

Note to all the DVC'ers.. at least you can be assured that you'll most likely be getting this bit of mail. Probably no chance at a coconut or glossy shore excursion brochure.. but at least it's something tangible to remind you it is coming soon!

Yay Cash! I wonder if he realizes how lucky he is, getting to go on a Disney cruise?

It's his third and, as far as I can tell from his behavior, he acts like it is one long elevator ride followed by days and days of lots of snoozing, and few trees in sight, although he has adopted one tree in St. Maarten and one tree in Nassau that he uses as communication points for his foreign "pen" pals... He has a very independent strategy in the buffets where I sometimes have to "go it alone". He stands right in the middle of the walkway and takes a survey of the action and smells the odors wafting from the food table. He doesn't move. He just stands there. Like a statue. Passengers have blundered into him and expressed surprise and shock at his presence. There is nowhere to park him out of line and I need his help to get to the food line but, as I can't hang onto his harness and give him directions if I'm dishing out food, he gets in the way if he stands at my side in the line. (I've started teaching him more specific verbal directional commands like left, right, back, and turn around so that he's able to handle the confusion of the buffet line better.) He knows what a line is and how to stand in a slow-moving line (although he tends to zone out) but he's still a little confused about the mixed media...the presence of food combined with line-standing and conversation. I know he's listening to my conversations and waiting for a series of words that that he recognizes as a command but he needs more practice in separating that input from the odor input....OVERLOAD, OVERLOAD... The HAL cruise last November was a real exciting trip...nine other service dogs and really neat excursions, PLUS buffet lines...He met a dolphin in Tortola and several colorful butterflies at the butterfly rancho in St. Maarten but also met a significant behavioral challenge when faced with a fallen handler and the bare butt of a male swimmer who was showering off after a dip at Orient beach....Too much to contemplate for both of us....

He has seen the luggage on the bedroom floor lately and can probably sense my excitement...he's sticking close and I think he knows something's up.
