The beauty of Southwest for us (after the price!) is having DD allows us to pre-board. I would much rather fly AA or United, but they are so expensive for a one-way ticket.

We are going to stay on board for the first West Coast cruise so we are packing for 21 days. I found a good price on Continental first class, and we are allowed three checked bags up to 70 lbs each so I think we are covered. only problem is DCL only gives us 2 tags each for checking in luggage at the port, which means dragging a bunch onboard (along with wine for 21 days).

Alex

This is not a 7 night cruise and i think the 3 bags u mentoned will be fine
Give those Genltemen at the curb a few buck and they will put
A Submarine on board for you.. LOL

Just be there early for the cattle call or you may be sitting out on the wing for your trip!

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.................
Don't we know it. We plan to set the alarm to get up at midnight, print out our boarding passes so we get group 1, then go back to be for a very few hours before we have to get up and head to the airport...But we'll be headed to WDW and a Panama Canal cruise, so you could strap me to the wing and I'd smile the whole way there!! :cool1:

Hi Guys and Gals,
Just a quick check in as I am still at work, and have a short break while some paper is being processed.

Thought I better declare a name for tomorrow...... How about TO Infinity and Beyond Thursday!!!! Well that is how I feel right now.

That is a perfect designation for tomorrow! Love it.

DH and I are just discussing how we will now revise our packing plan now that we can take three checked bags per person. That really helps when we need to schlep gear for our snorkeling and diving. The dive bag is usually packed full with our gear, so that usually drops us to three total bags to put clothes in. (Lynda, I have NO idea how you do it...) Yippy! :Pinkbounc

The porters at the DCL terminal will give you as many extra tags as you need. Joe and I checked 6 bags on the Xmas cruise.

No wonder we never got our bags, you luggage hogs!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Although rumor has it that "Cinderella" had 32 pieces of luggage and the poor room steward was still hauling it out after 2 a.m. since she was still packing.

Us.....well we had 17 checked in bags, but that was for 13 of us, so give me some slack here....................... :moped:

Linda

Well I PLAN on having 2 30 inch roller duffles and a garment bag to check. Then each of us will have a carry on roller. One just with electronic stuff, one laptop bag and one with extra stuff.

We shall see

I am packing another carry on type bag for some of the items that I am buying in Orlando.

We do plan on doing laundry. :teeth: Alot of mixing and matching. I did get a few formal and semi-formal things, but I never dress up, so this will be a treat!

The snow is about done now.... :sunny: had to snowblow one more time tonight. This is getting old.

Thanks for the info. Maybe we'll let them cart the wine on board in a piece of luggage (carefully packed in shipping cartons). Alex

Thumperiffic Thursday sounds better as suggested by Peter and Jenn. Two days no sleep numbs the creative grey cells.

I’ve gotten some PMs about the book exchange.

My idea for this was to have a very informal gathering every couple of days or so (maybe in the seating area at the stern, behind Topsiders but not during mealtimes) to which we bring the books we might like to exchange. Someone mentioned that if you want your book back by the end of the cruise, you should write your name and stateroom number in the front cover of the book. Not sure what’s going to happen to the books nobody wants back. If the ship has a “library” maybe we could donate them.

Any improvements or other ideas? Send 'em on.

RE: Southwest. We are returning home to FL on them. Their former weight policy was three checked pieces @ 70*. Now they reduced it to 50*?! That could potentially be a problem for most people. We have three 26" suit cases and they exceed 60* without being expanded and we are not heavy packers. Well... I guess the scale doesn't lie.

For the Disney Movie Buffs: If intherested in theIncredibles lithos, don't forget to pre-order before 3/15!!! I can't believe the movie will be out then! YEAH

Just a warning. If you are staying the second night near the LAX airport, just be aware that it IS NOT an area where you will go out at night and even take a walk. If you are staying in a hotel, you would be in the hotel once you arrived. There aren't any places that I would go to without leaving in my own car (rental or otherwise).

I would also stay in a place that you are familiar with (i.e. brand name hotel)

Linda

Thanks! That's exactly the type of information I need to know. Anyone have any suggestions on what part of the city they would stay in when visiting LA? :)

Marina Del Rey is very nice, and sort of mid-way between LAX, the popular beach areas, and Beverly Hills.

Although I would love to go to Disneyland after our trip, my children would prefer to go sightseeing. I'd like to arrange for the 6 of us to tour the area and see as much as we can see in the two days that we'll be there. DD (13) and DS (9) want to go places like Beverly Hills and the Chineese theater with the handprints outside (They both like to watch the Travel channel). My first instinct would be to do a Grayline tour. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

We did a tour on a 12 seater bus in 2003,(not sure which company, might have been LAtours)from the Holiday Inn Hollywood, and found it a great trip.Maybe it was the time of year but there were no smogs, and although the Chinease theater is a bit worn ,it is a piece of history also hollywood looked to have cleaned up a lot compared to our last trip in 1997 when it was derelict ,so well worth a go.We also took the afternoon trip around thew beaches and bays of LA which took us to Marina Del Rey,venice beach (great as we are doors fans) and one or two other places, and if you do the two together there is a discounted price

Sorry to start the Southwest wars... with all the other discount airlines, I just don't see the need for the cattlecall. And with jetBlue and Song having the sattelite TV's with each seat, I really don't see the need.....
If anyone lives in the Sarasota area, the Goodwills in the Manatee-Sarasota areas all have amazing bookstores. There's a new one on Rt 70 off of I75 that has a great selection of books at amazing prices....

If you are touring the city I would say stay near hollywood for both nights, and dont bother staying near the airport .the Holiday inn Hollywood where we stayed arranged a car to the airport and the price wasnt too bad The only thing the hotel is a bit old but if you are only sleeping there it doesnt matter too much, give them a call. Some of the rooms are on the highway side ,so try to specify a room on the other side which is quiet,,and you are within a few minutes walk to the Kodak theater and central hollywood, and not very far by cab to universal.
