2005 DCL Points Chart is out!

If the point chart and cash prices are ridiculously (sp?) high and DCL's announcement in May (whatever that may be) does not work for us, we are already considering a back-up plan for the summer of '05 - cruise with RCL out of NJ or perhaps pay cash for a 4 day cruise on the Wonder and a stay at WDW. We shall see. Nothing is definite, we do not plan on being robbed.

I also got a quote from Dreams Unlimited for 3 adults for Feb 20,2005.......

Catagory 6 with verandah for 3 adults is $2985. If I were to use pts it would be 454 pts(with discounted pts). I will probably rent 300 pts and use cash also now.

Would also not have to pay the $75 booking fee either.

Just an update.....................

I posted 300 pts for rent($10 ea) about 3 hrs ago. It has already been taken by 1 gentleman from Hawaii.

So it was very easy.........and we saved about 154 pts and the $75 booking fee, and will be using cash now to pay for this cruise through DreamsUnlimited.::yes::

Dean, I agree with you.

Trades like that should just be dropped from the system - save us all on marketing, publication etc. fees

thanks

Nick you get an A+ in economics 101. Congrats!! You also don't have to worry about the use them or lose them cancellation policy for booking on points.

The speed of your sale makes me wonder if $11-12/pt rentals may be more of a feasible in the near future.

I took a cruise with points in 1999. The points fora 3 night cat 5 value season were 114 for an adult, 55 for a child. So we used 283 points. In 2004 the points are 126 per adult and 34 for a child, bringing the total to 286. It appears that 2005 is the first time it has had such a big increase. In 2001 the points actually came down.

I think we would not use points again as you price of the cruise is affordable, but hate the thought of renting points. We live in the UK and it just seems such hassle.

AWESOME!
Good for you, Nick!

I think we will all need to brush up on our rental skills if we want to cruise using points!

I think we will all need to brush up on our rental skills if we want to cruise and not come out of pocket!

Agreed. Course, I said something about renting out points for a cruise we wanted to take in a couple years to DH this morning and he acted all put out. Said he didn't want to rent out points that it would be too much of a hassle. UGH!!!

Course, I did point out that what we would pay for a cruise would be equal to annual passes, food, etc. for a couple WDW trips anyway.

I will not pay that much in points for a cruise, it would wipe us out for three years! No way!!! As it was we were gonna have to pay cash for my girls. Just silly to waste points like that. They need to just drop that option.

Do any take this point increase as an insult? LOL

We took a 4 night cruise in 2004 and used points for everyone except DS. It was very nice, but I don't see any more cruises after this summer (which my parents are paying for). Why? I have to cruise in high season because I teach, and I have a family of 5. The cash cost for 2 cat. 10 rooms before I booked with my folks was about $5000. One cat. 4 room was more. And add in the $$ you spend on the cruise. It sure seemed a lot cheaper using points, although if you think about it it's not cheaper at all. Unless DH's business starts doing a LOT better all our Disney vacations will be on land after this year, since we don't have any flexibility in time or category.

I don't know when you normally start school, but the end of August is a very inexpensive time to cruise. My SIL is a teacher and manages to go on vacation at this time of the year by preparing her room before she leaves. I am sure it is cheaper b/c of the weather, but a hot cruise is better than no cruise IMO. We have been considering this time of year b/c it is comparatively very inexpensive.

I am SO glad my DH was firm about only buying 150 points! We first learned about DVC while on the DCL and at that time I thought we should buy enough points to 'cruise'. My DH did not want to buy more than 150 points (he would have been even happier with just 100 points if that had been possible through Disney). So now we see that our 150 points work out nicely for us to use at the resorts, but we will pay cash for our cruises.

I guess I should tell him that 'he was right' after all  . I am SO glad I didn't try harder to change his mind. Using our points at the DVC resorts is a great value. Using our points at the other Disney Resorts is a nice 'treat'. But using points for the cruise just doesn't seem to work well for us.

Anyway, thanks for posting the current information on cruise points. We took one 3 night cruise on points last year, but for now one our points will just be for the resorts!

I used points in October of 2001. Because it was after 9/11, we were able to use points at a much reduced rate (too much fear over travel). They treated us very well as DVC members.
Since the points are going up, DW and I are looking to do the cruise with cash. I like the idea of selling the points for one year. It is definetely more efficient that way.

We had a great time on the 7 day cruise. We are DINKS (Dual income no kids), DWS and I are looking forward to using it as an anniversary cruise for next year (5-year).

I agree that it looks like they are really undervaluing the DVC as compared to the other Disney Properties and Cruise. I hope that they don't keep ratcheting the point costs up and virtually remove the options of using the other Disney options.
