Okay, I am feeding a neighbors cats and chickens while they are away. Well, I am from the city and not used to chickens. I go to the pen and only see 4 and there should be 5. I lift up the back where you collect the eggs (and sweep out the poop) and see the feathers of the missing chicken. Oh Man, the darn thing is dead. No, says my 8yo nephew, I see it moving. So I stand there wondering if 8yo knows what to do WHEN AN EGG ROLLS OUT! I bout jumped a foot. It was cool and the kids were very excited.

Speaking of "dead" birds. Today I heard a thumpety thump so loud it made me jump. I looked outside and two morning doves were lying on my front porch! One was breathing, but the other was obviously dead. :( I went out and picked them up. The dead one was definitely dead. The breathing one died in my hands. Actually he was bleeding from his beak and had hit the window so hard he was bleeding from his neck!

That's the trouble with highly insulated windows with heat mirror technology....when you look at them from the outside you see a perfect reflection of the trees and sky......

and to birds, that's just more room to fly! :(

Sad thing is, this may be the mated pair that has built a nest on the top of the pillar on my porch! :( Nick thought I should put the dead bird up there to at least keep the eggs warm! :(

We have a dove nesting just outside the kitchen window, on the ledge. The 2 eggs have now hatched, and we have naked baby doves! I just love how the Daddy will come watch them so Mama can go get food. If something happens and they don't make it, I'll be devastated!

We've had chickens....I hated the fresh eggs. Hated gathering them....yuck.
Jay solved the problem by accidently leaving the coop door open one day. I came home from work to what looked like a major pillow fight in our drive.....and 2 verrrrry guilty looking dogs!!!

Fresh Eggs! :Pinkbounc

The neighbors won't be home til Sunday and Nick and Emmy have gone home so I hope the chicken care goes well.

Sue & Stace: The original Chicken Farmers! I love it!

I remember gathering eggs at a friend's house when I was a kid. I used to cry if she made me reach underneath a chicken! So I found all the ones in the empty nests, and she moved the momma chickens out of the way.

Sue, I hope you had a good day with the scuba family. Looks like the rain held off for you.

Hi Ohiominnie...........I know you can purchase these stickers for your windows so that birds will see them and help prevent them from crashing into your windows.

If you can not find any, I'll mail some to you.

Gus

gaRry, hope you and DS had a better trip home than you did going south. It was good to see you both the other day.

Yes, found the hidden ::MickeyMo , it wasn't that hard to find.
You are most welcome for the shirts, don't forget to share :earboy2:
Sorry about the car rental place. Maybe you can fight them thru your credit card company. It might be worth a shot. Good luck.
Have a safe trip back Wednesday.

Just wanted to put a note out - so that you all could be thinking of this....

I'd like a picture, or 2, or 3 moment from the cruise from everybody - can be a memorable moment - anything... with or without you being in it - of course I'd like one with your picture in it too....... I'm trying to put together my website - finally - and would love to have everybody's pictures there....

More to come in the next few weeks - hopefully....

Doc, I have about 10 pictures posted over on the DIS picture forum. There's one of my whole family on horseback in St. Lucia, or one of everyone but me snorkling in St. Martin if I had to pick my favorites.

Of course, I could just burn a CD, but I don't think you really want to go through 100 photos?

I have never gathered chicken eggs, but DD has. Kevin's Dad has always had a coop, and it's the first thing Alicia has always done when we visited. Out to gather eggs. My little farmgirl.
