Now for the news brief:

The Wine Party

I called Debbie today, since it is her job to help with these matters.
She is very nice! BUT

"There are safety issues involved with having more than 14 people on that verandah at one time"

And I said "Oh, you mean, like if there's a fire, we couldn't all get out in time?"

"There are safety issues involved....."

So, she suggested that I fax Amy Edwards (Group Coordinator) and see if Amy can find us a place & time (like Sessions) to host such a large group.
I worked with Amy on Megan's wedding, and am hoping she remembers me.
Accordng to Debbie, there will be a lot of "extras" for this cruise, that will be taking place throughout the ship (cookie decorating, etc) so it may be near to impossible to find a spot for us.
AND
It will most likely cost money to "rent" a space.
Waiting to hear back from Amy. I used to have her in my address book for e-mail, but she's not in there any more. So I sent the fax.

Let's be like sorority sisters and see just how many it can hold!! ::yes::  That would probably be more of a "drunken frat boy" (is that redundant??) stunt.:crowded: :drinking:

It was funny when I said that to her, about fire or whatever. They must be VERY well-trained to not admit to any type of "issue"!

Last month at MNSSHP we were sitting on the ground waiting for the parade. And a CM came and stood right in front of KT! I asked if she could move, so KT could see and she informed me that she needed to stand there as a safetly precaution. I said "you don't have to worry about my kid running out into the parade route, she knows better than that." And I asked if she could just move down a foot or so. She told me in a very dramatic voice that in a few moments a 2000 pound horse was going to come galloping around the corner and he hugs THIS rope and she needs to stand there as a safety precaution.

Ok, right. Sure. 2000 pounds, hugs the rope. Whatever  So we all scrunched in and moved KT down a bit and moments later there was a 2000 pound horse galloping around the corner and hugging our rope!!! :earseek: :earseek:

I have no idea who was riding it (I HEARD the headless horseman) I was too focused on the very large hoofs just inches away from my feet!!!!

I think we should be a travelling group. Go from place to place, spreading our joy! And seeing how many people we can annoy in the mean time!

Would that joy spreading be in the form of dancing or singing?? ;)

How about going from place to place and performing random acts of kindness....
like holding doors open for ppl, offering to help finish their lobster tail, helping them punch their bingo cards, wearing the pins they just bought on OUR lanyards....

yes, I seriously am leaving.

Okay, the Mechanical Engineer in me is coming out. The safety issues probably have to do with the structural design limits of the verandahs. Even though the space can hold it, they set the supports based on a "normal" sized verandahs capacity, so that's probably the "issue". The deck 7 aft spot worked great for our inaugural western cruise. Anyone not part of our group would go RUNNING, so it could be all ours! And then we'd only be one floor down from Stacey (unless you're forward instead of aft?)

I've caught myself talking about you guys to family members and friends here. I feel like I know everyone, and I'm talking about my friends.

My DW just smiles when I tell her about everyone here.

My collegues at work laugh when I say " its time to see what my friends from the cruise have to say"

Some don't understand, because they know I have not yet travelled on the cruise.

I have to explain to them, that these are people that I have made friends with on-line who are on the very same cruise, and how I am looking forward to meeting them in person very soon.

LIFE IS GREAT, isn't it.

I'm sure it is more of a load capacity issue. I know our deck design for our house has a load capacity of something like 200 pounds per square foot. We know this because we debated whether we would ever put a hot tub on it, so my Dad put in extra support beams just to be safe.

Ah, you have one of those handy dads too, huh? I have NO idea what I will do if and when my dad is ever unable to do odd tasks around our house. I guess I should save my money now b/c we'll be hiring a lot more contractors!

So we went through our "cruise" clothes this weekend. I was matching things up and counting how many outfits I have. I was also helping DH match his shirts to his ties to make sure he has a few that match. That was an interesting task. I have no sense of color and what matches. My Mom accuses me of being color blind just like my Aunt (her sister). My aunt once wore 2 different color orange socks and bright pink pants to work. They all matched to her. It's a good thing she works in shipping and receiving at an arms dealer with mostly men.::yes::

Not to worry, Lisa.....just tossing out ideas so far.

Probably a bad idea to take over the "friends of Bill W." room for our wine tasting party, huh?

Everything went downhill on Sunday! DM has been sick and she fell yesterday in the bathroom. She didn't break anything but it scared her. My house looks like a cruise ship with the bars I have on all the walls. Even in her bathroom I have grab bars on every wall. Then, I am taking a nap (stress related I am sure) one of the dogs gets sick all over the bed. yuk. We are supposed to leave for HH on Wednesday and I will have to cancel. I don't think DM is strong enough for the trip right now. I have to get her better for the cruise.

I hope your Mom gets better soon.

We want everyone healthy for the cruise.

Stacey - that's what is so great about ladies night. It is just us - all friends. No men! Trust me I'm not Miss America candidate in her Catalina swimsuit. :D

OK, now what do "WE" do?

The guys get the comedy act that night!! I Call dubs!
::yes:: ::yes:: :

You girls can get the dance floor.....
:hyper: :hyper:

My first thoughts on the vernadah, when Stacy mentioned the safety concerns were with the crowding and comings and goings and it is a wine party...........who knows..................accidents are well, accidents................. someone could be bumped over board. As high as the railings are - a rock here a roll there and not much room - who knows what could happen. As a college student I worked on the Harbor cruises here in Boston during the summer which included whale watches. We had a passenger taking pictures and the vessel gave a little roll and over he went! This was a ship that holds 1500 passengers, not a little boat! It is just accidents happen. BTW we got him out - but it was a scary incidnent!

Absolutely. He built us a deck which is a rectangle with the corner cut off and an octagon attached to the other side. We "helped". He also built AND remodeled the house they live in. It was originally built as a "modified" raised ranch where you enter on the 2nd floor and a few years ago he modified it to be a "standard" raised ranch where you enter between the 1st and 2nd floors. He also built them a garage that's 1.5 stories high, deep enough for 2 cars (or a car and a boat) with 2 garage doors. It's wide enough to park his boat between the 2 cars in the winter.

He loves doing that kind of stuff. He takes the construction equipment home every few years to "landscape" their yard. My mom made him stop though because she's got it how she wants it now.

:earseek: Jenny I knew you were young but my oh my, does 1978 make anyone else feel OLD!!!!!

Seriously, I'm so glad we have such a range of people on here. We probably run the gamut of demographics! That's what makes it fun.

Yes, very old. They are now kidding me about my age at work.

I remember when I first started, guys were talking about their retirement ( I was thinking that this was sort of strange in a way)

Guess what now I am one of those guys, talking about retirement.

You know what they say " you are only as old as you feel"

Do they do ladies night on the Magic? I thought that was only on the Wonder.

I'm up for a spa night, a club night, or just hanging out on deck 10 and talking. We could even do the adult pool/hot tub one night.

If we agree on something we can certainly put it in the mini-navigator.

I agree with all of the above. Why do we have to choose an activity. We could have evenings at the pool for those that would like to relax in the hot tub before bed. (could include dh's if they are really deserving) I love the idea of a spa night. perhaps a rainforest gathering. I think we could have deck 10 gatherings on sea days when there are fewer planned activities. Not everyone would be at all activities but if we have a few planned we will have that much more fun!!
I read on another thread about the hot tub at 11-11:30 just before bed and how uncrowded and relaxing it was. Ok it might not be relaxing with 20 of your closest DIS friends, but it would be fun!!

Now to catch up 6 pages while I was away. WOW
