OH MY!! He'll be in the 10-12 group with a very large DIS contingent of 10 and 11 yr old girls!!! Not sure of any other boys that age going.....anyone, anyone, anyone, Ferris?

Welcome, Christine!
Don't worry about catching up, there's no way you'll do it. I was just at WDW for a week and I STILL can't catch up reading those pages I missed.

Here's us in a nutshell:
Me, Dh, dd 10 and ds 7 (will be very close to 8) from Ohio. Travelling with my parents. :) We are (ok, I'll speak for myself)...*I* am a WDW, DCL, DIS addict!

My DS will is 11 (turned 11 in August), so he'll be happy for the male company. Girls are just now getting interesting for him. In fact, he and DD got in an argument Friday over his friend who happens to be a girl.

My DD will be almost 13 at cruise time, so she'll still be in the lab.

:smooth

I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and loaded up on 'necessities' for our cruise. I think I hit the jackpot with sunscreen for .50!!!(And not out-dated!!!)

So,now I have one bag already packed. Whew...one down, 5 to go.

I cannot, repeat, cannot stop obsessing about this trip, or should I say adventure!

Don't forget to get out a vote....just vote for the correct guy!

Christine:crazy:

On our first cruise in July 2003 my DD's were 10 & 13 and signed themselves in and out of the clubs --- I never really worried about them. We were traveling with another family with a 10 DD and the two 10's stayed together, my 13 year old hung out with them some and another girl she met in the teen club. Everything seemed to work out okay --- it's a big ship but they could always find us. I'm hoping that they can hook up with some of the kids from the board --- I know that there's alot out of them in their age ranges --- DD Andrea = 14 1/2 and DD Jordan = 12 (in 10 more days!!!!) It seemed like they never went to the club activities during the day, but did enjoy the night activities.

I'm hoping to do some the Disney's Art of Entertaining series, hopefully they'll let my girls come with me if they want.

Haven't voted yet --- thinking about taking off early to do so --- our polling place made the local news this morning because it was so crowded and caused a huge traffic jam. Maybe if I leave a little early I can avoid the night rush.

Have a great day --- gotta start packing soon, wish I was as organized as Stacey::yes:: ::yes::

Finally!!! I have been trying to get on the boards for 2 hours.

Stacey - the DH(as in Dr. Husband :p ) told me there was not really anything I could do for my finger. I wanted to know what good is he then. He said it's not broken so I probably just hurt the soft tissue and the best thing in Motrin and continue to use it so it doesn't get stiff. I told him I hope I don't get a bill for that information cause I probably could have figured that out all by myself.

Gus - I am going to add my 2 cents on the sign-in/out priviledges. Several years ago when my oldest was 10 we were on the Wonder and we allowed her sign-in/out priviledges. But she did have restrictions which included: she could only go to the cabin, pool, or game room and we had to know where she was at all times. Now as a teenager, she roams the ship and I never know where she is unless I see her, or it is dinner time. :p It was never a problem and worked out great. I do have to agree that you have to take the individual child into account and everyone should make their own decision. I hope this helps.

Gotta go, but I will try to check in later. I already voted so at least that is out of the way.

Thanks LeiLani...........we are "newbies" and not familiar with the ship.
Our little princess is very outgoing and will talk to anyone and everyone. ( you will see )
Most times she is not the most responsible and can be easily swayed.
Plus, we are just naturally a very cautious Dad and Mom.

Perhaps, it my be OK to let her go to the lab, pool, games room etc with restrictions.
We will have to see when we get there after we look around.

OK...........time to look at the deck plans again.

Gus

OH YEAH!!!!!!! TOP FOR ME!!!!!

Wow, the boards are finally moving!!!

You are right Diana-I can probably save that $$$$ cuz I am sure The Incredibles will be showing on the ship. There was a great short (movie, that is), before the show started. It was made by Pixar also, and is about a sheep who bounces around and about a "JACKALOPE"! It was about 5 minutes long and it was hysterical. Hope they are showing it across the country before the movie cuz that one is a must see also.

Okay, work to do!

Linda

Oh, one more thing-----------

someone mentioned that DCL would post on their website when they decided which nights were what (i.e. formal, Pirate)

I went on the website this morning. Where do you find that info cuz I sure couldn't find it anywhere.

Thanks.

Linda

Oh, don't even START me on the "little boys in the bathroom" stories. Everytime DS goes in with DH, they come out and DH is stifling a laugh. It's always SOMETHING!!! Typically they come out and we ask "ok, what's the funny bathroom story THIS time?"

I hear ya, Gus. We tend to err on the side of caution too. It's ingrained in us being medical people and having seen the darker side of many things (trampolines, scooters, ATV's, sexual predators, child abusers, etc etc) We still use caution on the ship, but FOR THE MOST PART I think those who are taking a DCL cruise are not representative of the general population. That's NOT saying there isn't someone with bad intentions on the ship, but we feel that the percentages would be WAY less and it's a good opportunity to allow the kids a bit of freedom and a chance to prove themselves so that "real life" won't hit them as hard. Sure, I'd like to wrap them up in a bubble and not let them be exposed to anything bad, but in the long run that won't help them function as adults.

And, as it's been said, a lot depends on the kid. You could have a totally responsible 10 yr old who could do well with increased freedom and you could have an irresponsible 15 yr old who can't handle it.

Do what's in your gut. None of us are going to judge you for your decision......well, at least *I* won't. I won't speak for everyone else. Ultimately, the decision is yours though. :)

and about a "JACKALOPE"!

Cool, we have one of those hanging by our fireplace. Seriously. :) The kids ask if it's "real." Sure it is...it's right there, can't you see it?????

Actually, here's a link to where it was purchased. MIL bought it for us. She figured I would hate it....just HATE it....but it's actually really cute and fits our themeing (Wilderness Lodgey) :)

That's great. That's exactly what the Jackalope looked like last night in the mini-movie.

Being here in the west, there have always been tons of stories about the jackalope. Glad to see they go on in your area too!

You'll love the little mini-movie!

Good evening!

I cannot believe that I was in line to vote for three and a half hours!! Amazing for up here. My back is killing me.. I don't stand in line for anything .......but this is important.

We ended up having fun out there. Our polling place is one block north of our shop, so I parked at the shop and walked down. So did about 20 other people. Cars lined the streets...TV helicopters flew over. I think we had the longest waits of anyone in the county!
There's a restaurant across the street that had a booth set up for hotdogs, hamburgers and chips. We were going to call for a pizza, because none of us (all long-time Cave Creekers) wanted to walk across the street. Finally, the restaurant got smart, and brought the food and drinks over to us!
Once I finally got in the door to vote, I said "I'm here for my flu shot!".:teeth: That got a couple of laughs.

Anyway, it was nice outside (65) and clear blue skies, so it wasn't a bad wait. Only ten people fit in our Town Hall at one time, so the line went out the door, across the parking lot, and past the sheriff's office.
Don't count on me being back tonight (for long anyway). Jordan has dance, I'm taking Jared to Dairy Queen, coming home, watching the results, and going to bed.
I didn't sleep well last night, had a little cough that kept me up. So I'm pooped.

Off I go....TTFN!

Stacey
P.S. My "Seaman Elizabeth the Horny Toe" costume came today....a "wench" I will be! Arrrrr, Matey!

i have to go vote right now! i didn't have time before i left for work and i was going to stop on my way home, but my mom was like "you're not going to wait for me?! you dad is" so i guess it will be a family trip to the polls when she gets home. she better get home soon though! otherwise i will have to go without waiting...haha.

My husband said the same thing to me about voting.

"Why don't you wait to vote until I get home at 5:30 and we can go together?" I said

ARE YOU CRAZY? I'm not going to stand in line for 2-3 hours with everyone else. We can share family time together somewhere else.

So, I went and voted first thing this morning and was in and out in less than 15 minutes!!!
