Try growing up as a Cornhusker! Thank goodness, that's one job I was never stupid enough to take.

GO BIG RED!

btw, it's also the eye of a deer. That's apparently how the tree got it's name....because the nuts look like a big, brown, deer eye.

We are the Buckeyes, we are killer nuts....We are the Buckeyes, we are killer nuts! :)

I guess Tinksdad didn't check the board this morning. I'll tell him he's been paged. Did you notice how late he posted last night? I think that was a personal record!

I went to bed early, I see that others had a bit of insomnia.

Jim, maybe Central FL will get more of this storm than you will. Very good news that it has slowed down, hope it stays that way!

Don't forget to tell your kids about Tinkdancer's thread. So far Scuba Matt is the only one that found it, but some of us big kids have stopped in to help keep it going. If it's successful, it will be the only TEEN thread on the Meets board anyway. Those darn Panama cruisers don't have one!

So what will we do when we get back? There's a thread on the Community Board where some Oct. 2003 cruisers still keep in touch with each other. Maybe we could do that. Then Stacey could pirate: pirate: into eternity.

Forgot to add, there are a few people that actually LIKE Galveston. We used to vacation there when we were kids (all I remember is the incredible sunburns), and my brother still takes his family there every year for TWO weeks. He even bought a lot. I keep trying to get them to FL, even offered a free DVC room, no go. My brother loves Galveston.

Oh, I hope we keep in touch in some way. It's been fun getting to know a lot of you guys. It's just going to be a blast to meet you all in real life! Hope my parents don't feel slighted when I have to go yet another DIS function!! ;)

There, do I have your attention?

Last question about the drywall (I keep saying that and then give you more questions) :)

If I'm going to apply a thin layer of drywall mud to my bathroom.... I use the stuff called "joint compound," right? And, what's the best way to apply that for a good finish? Large putty knife? Trowel?

I won't get to it this weekend. Heading to Cleveland with the kids so Mike can study for boards, but early next week I want to tackle it.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello! DW had to give the heads up.

Yes, the material you need to use is generically called joint compound. Its a USG product. We like the "Plus3" joint compound since its a bit fluffier and much easier to sand than the standard stuff. It's a bit more expensive, but WELL worth the few cents a box.

Mix well in a 5gallon bucket and apply with a 10" drywall knife (go to building supplies, drywall tools, knifes). Once you get a thin layer over all the old wall surface, let it dry and sand lightly to obtain a smooth substrate ready for texture or paint. You might have to coat a couple of times, depending on you "skill" with the tool, LOL.

Have fun....:p don't worry about asking for anything. I'll be happy to help.

Handsome HandyMAN!

:rotfl: :rotfl: Thank you for my morning laugh!!

If you offered ME a free DVC room, I'd take it! I must like you better than your brother does!::yes::

Happy Friday everyone!!

We are headed up to the Poconos in PA for DS's soccer tournament. He plays 4 games tomorrow for the tournament and then we go whitewater rafting on Sunday. We will come back late Sunday night so that we can have Monday here at home before school starts Tuesday. I will bring laptop, but not sure if I will have time to check in. I will try or else I will have 50 pages to read Monday!

We will be driving right past Hershey , so I can get an idea of how long that drive will take, if anyone is still going???

I'm from Texas and went to Galveston as a kid. Its not the best place in Texas, but I wouldn't mind being on the Magic there!

Kristen is trying to get on the teen board, but her account has been activated yet. I might need to check into that if I get a chance.

Have a great weekend everyone!

OhMinnie, no one said your parents couldn't join in on the DIS fun! They are welcome, too.....(or are the DIS functions going to be used as your "time out"?) My Mom came up to the DIS meet at the sail-away, but she was a little miffed that I was talking to virtual strangers instead of her. My Dad was doing laps in the adult pool during sail away!

I think Tinksdad should change his DIS name now. He has a new "handle"!

Wellll, we're getting a bit competitive aren't WE.:hyper:

Ok, I'm sure I've seen USG. Will look for "Plus 3" My philosophy is "you get what you pay for." I'm willing to spend the extra $ to get something good. But a BOX??? It doesn't come premixed? Shucks!

I'll bet I've got one of those.....somewhere.

Skill? Don't know about that. I've mudded areas before, but never an ENTIRE room!

Have fun....:p don't worry about asking for anything. I'll be happy to help.
Handsome HandyMAN!

Thanks SOOOO much! You've been a wonderful resource!!
As for the handsome part....I'll make that judgement 12/18. ;) ;) Until then, I'm just going on Diana's word! :)

It's happening again!

My note to Ohiominnie is in the Topic Review, but not on the thread.

What I said was:

Your parents are more than welcome at the DIS functions, unless those will be your "time out" with Ohiomickey.
My Mom came to the sail-away party, but she was miffed that I was talking to "strangers" more than her.
Dad was doing laps in the adult pool during the sail-away. Smart guy.

AND......

Tinksdad needs to change his DIS name, he has a new "handle" now!

WEIRD! I saw this as I was replying to Tinksdad. But when I looked in the thread it was nowhere to be found. Now it's happening to Stacey too!!

(more twilight zone music)

OK, step by step;
The box is pre-mixed, that is the way we buy it. I'm pretty sure it's available in the bucket also.

Just float the areas you want covered. If that encompasses one or two walls, just to as much as you need. Make sense?

On the handsome part, I will let that part pass. Guess it's just wishful thinking. Plus, I like that moniker that Stacy coined. It has a nice "ring" to it.

I didn't answer this....
I'll see if they want to join in, of course, but socializing with "psycho internet friends" might be weird for them. Although I try to tell them all about you a bit here and there ....
"hey, one of the guys on our 10 day has a farm and makes hay." (they used to have a farm and make hay, so they can relate) So they know you're all out there. :)

Maybe I don't want to get them together with you all b/c you might tell them my secrets! :)

Gosh! If I do that now I'll lose all those hard won post count......
 :sunny:

For some of you though, that's just a easy days work!!

Minnie, I do the same thing with my in-laws. I've mentioned that Vicki is a nurse (MIL is a retired pediatric nurse), and GaRry is a former marine (since there are NO ex-marines!). I think MIL might visit a bit with us, but I see an awful lot of deck 4 chair time in Grandpa's future!
