Here's what I remember from our May '03 cruise. DVC Members cruising on points got a DVC lanyard in their room upon arrival. If you aren't cruising on points you can go to the DVC desk and they will give you one. There is a DVC Members Reception where everyone who attends gets a raffle ticket and a hat. Also at this one anyone with small children also got a DVC sand bucket and pail. They play a raffle type game where they call out numbers and if it your ticket you get asked a question (and usually everyone helps answer it) and you win a prize. DVC towels, bags, can cozies, note pads - that sort of thing. We went and didn't win anything but they did have coffee, tea, and sweet rolls out (it was 10 am).

There are also two info sessions at Studio Sea for those who want to know about DVC. Members are encouraged to attend these as well to give their perspective on DVC. There were some trivia questions open to all for prizes (I won a DVC water bottle/waist pack for this) and then one prize at the end for members and one for non members.

So no big perks, but some nice get togethers to talk about DVC. We have enjoyed going to them, but they aren't must do's.

Originally posted by DVC4US They do have a DVC information meeting on one of the sea days and they like DVC members to attend. I think you have a chance to win some gifts during this meeting. [/B]

We went to one in May. They gave away free DVC hats and lanyards and then had a question/answer period where you received free gifts if you answered correctly. We won a small DVC beach tote bag.

If you're not doing anything it's fun to go for the freebies and to see what's happening with DVC.

Thank you Mary and Ohiominnie!

With 10 days of cruising - and it being our first time as members, I am looking forward to seeing what they are doing!

Keep the suggestions and info coming!

I Love, it!

Morning all. Car talk, very cool. We have a 2002 Dodge Caravan. I would have liked an Odyssey, but our closest Honda dealership is an hour away, and we did that when we had a Subaru. Swore NEVER AGAIN! Now we're thinking of getting rid of our 94 F150 and getting a new truck for DH. He wants a Nissan, but I reminded him of the hour trek to Waldorf for EVERY oil change. We actually bought our Dodge in Waldorf (better deal) but get service locally. We do have a Toyota dealership, so I'm pushing hard for a Tundra.

We got an offer for our house. The really interested buyer went back yesterday (I'm guessing he was choosing between two houses), and offered full price with a 5k allowance for paint and minor repairs. Sounds pretty good to us. Now we're having to figure out if we want to take his rent back offer (they don't get here until March) or rent a townhouse. If we have to move twice anyway, I think we'll just move into a rental right after closing. His rent back offer isn't too bad a price, but we can save more money in a townhouse, and then we won't have to worry about upkeep. We're also going to ask to make a final decision on Monday, and see if anyone pops in over the weekend with a better offer. I just truly can't believe how fast this happened!

Denise, the tux rental thing seems really easy. I think there's also a link to it on the DCL website. I may ask DH if he wants to go with that this time. He's really hard to fit (5'5" tall), but tux rentals always seem to be able to work with it. I think we're just sticking with the dark suit though, since he already has it.

I also wanted to share some very good news here. A coworker of mine got a frantic phone call yesterday from his sister-in-law. It seems that this coworkers brother was getting his pilot's license and had taken his cross country instructor trip from San Antonio over here to Southern Maryland to visit his brother. He left Wed evening about 7:30, and hadn't made it back to Texas. The instructor pilot and brother had filed a flight plan, so the FAA was already looking for the plane (The wife didn't know because the plan was filed by the instructor, not the brother). The last location they got off the transponder was Oklahoma at 1:00 am Thursday morning. My coworker left here very upset (understandably). He has no family in the area, so I called his friends at the volunteer fire house to give him some support.

This morning, we found out that God truly does answer prayer. Both people were found late last night. They had crashed in a remote area of OK after an engine and electrical failure. The instructor had some broken bones, and both were shook up. They walked about 9 hours, and ran into some kids on 4 wheelers who got them to help. Both of them are going to be fine.

This was just such awesome news that I wanted to share.

I got a new Tundra four door Limited this last March and absolutely LOVE it! Very smooth ride, nice amenities and with my work, it does what I need it to do without the bulk of a huge truck. Had a Dodge Ram before and had to put another tranny in it after only 35k miles.

We test dove both the Nissan and the Toyota and I thought the Nissan was rougher and with the four doors, the bed was tiny in comparison.

Dh had a Tundra and *really* liked it. Traded it in for a Sequoia b/c he never used the pick up truck part of the Tundra and it was nice to have more interior room in the Sequoia.

Our Chevy van is the first non-Toyota vehicle we've had in 13 yrs. And it will probably be the last. Toyota's are built strong and well.

I have a Camry. Had a minivan for years, and finally realized that DD was never going to play soccer again, so I got rid of the last one (Windstar). ::yes:: I sure like the mileage I get with the Camry.

Leilani, I'll take you up on your offer of making a neighborhood watch list. What do you need? And did you get my e-mail about dressing like pirates at dinner? DD wants to make sure we have a quorum.

Lisa, great turnaround on the house! Glad your friend is OK.

Hi everyone!

Wow! It feels like I last posted a million months ago. Hope everyone had a good summer!

Life just got totally nuts for awhile. We officially survived: moving my MIL two times, putting her house on the market, DH beginning a new job, youngest DS breaking his collarbone, oldest DS going away to a performing arts camp in NY for 3 weeks (first time away from home), being in Florida during Hurricane Frances and micellaneous assorted ups and downs involving cars, computers, tenants and a rather surly BIL. We're ready to cruise! :boat:

My parents won't be coming with us on the cruise now.......just my family. Youngest DS (5) asks almost every day how long it is 'til Christmas!

Anyway, hope to start catching up on everything.......will have to skip around and read back posts. If there's anything big to report, let me know!

Have a great weekend!

Well, good news. We toured the kennel today and it's adequate enough. Ok, it's not the Hilton, but it beats some of the others we've seen. The ppl were very friendly and helpful. The dogs are pampered (cats too if we were so inclined to take our outdoor cat) They even serve turkey, dressing and gravy on Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYE! Summer holidays they have a cookout and give them hotdogs on buns! ;)

So she goes this month for just over a week for our Disney trip. The cruise trip (b/c of drop off and pick up times and the fact we're driving) she will be there 2 weeks!

Check that off my list! :)

Diana - I was thinking for the list just a small picture which you can email to me (or email me and I will send my address if you don't have a scanner) at LNaylor863@aol.com, childs name, parents name, and cabin number. If you think of anything else let me know. I will also put DIS name just for reference. Yes, I did get your email, but Brittany has been so busy and I keep forgetting to ask her. I will try to get an answer this weekend and let you know. I was just going to get eye patches and bandannas for them, but if I can find a cute costume I might get that. What is Alicia thinking about wearing?

Charlotte - it's great to have you back. I don't know if you have read all the postings but you have a new neighbor on the cruise. We moved out of 8602 to 8522 and Stacey now has 8602. Your end of the ship should be hopping.

OM - I am glad you found a place for the dog that you are comfortable with. We used to have a dog and I know what it's like.

Lynda...sorry to hear about your fall. I do hope you heal well and quickly.

Thanks, all, for your good wishes...I can't BELIEVE the number of times I've fallen lately...Ordinarily walking is like a slow three-legged race and now the racer has to use a pogo stick, too... walking is getting just too complicated.....

Fluff Queen says PAGE COUNT, PAGE COUNT....:Pinkbounc

Charlotte - so great to have you back. You are coming with us? :cheer2: :cheer2: Yeah! i'm so excited! None of us every made it to Hershey for various reasons. A storm named Ivan did it for us.

Karen - glad you found a place to board the puppy. I'm sure that helps ease your mind.

Well back to work. Which by the way is the pits today. Had to fire someone due to poor performance . Not fun at all
:(

I may be in chat tonight. Hope to see some of you there.

...and here I am boo-hooing over a little foot problem....Well, I didn't have to live through a fall from 30,000 feet, or so....What a baby I am!

WOW! What a miracle!

DH wants to know if the CMs get commissions on sales of wine (package/bottles/glasses). Does anyone know? I told him the great ideas I have gleaned from this board, such as bringing a glass of wine with us to dinner. He is concerned that we might be shortchanging the CM. I am more concerned with my pocketbook :confused3 and think a good tip at the end would compensate for any missed commissions they might get. :chat: He is sweet, I am thrifty.

yep, yep, yep....just sold my GMC truck (20-years old) and am looking HARD at the Toyota Scion, that funny-looking wagon that has been described as a 3/4 size British hearse... Well, I need SOMETHING to haul my scooter around in...It sure won't fit in the Del Sol.....

Nice of us all to be supporting economic recovery...:chat:

Don't you all think that beeping ankle bands set with a GPS would be better?:hyper:

Tie that into a voice activated prompter that hollers "What ever you're doing, stop it!" at regular intervals would work for me.......

Forced myself NOT to LOL at this. KT and Nick are both concentrating on math now. :)
