HELLO - ANYONE HOME?

A beautiful day out here in Chicagoland - must be beautiful everywhere and that's why no one is on the thread today!

Just giving us a little bump!

When you spend a lot of time on a bicycle, you see the best and worst side of people in cars. There isn't a day that I don't have to dodge someone turning in front of me or pulling out from a drive way. But today I actually made it 53 miles without any traffic problems.

But that doesn't mean it was a boring ride. I'm about 3 miles from home and here is a little old lady crossing the street 50 feet away from an intersection with a crosswalk. She couldn't walk down to the intersection and cross. No, she had to cross right there. Now to see this little old lady crossing the street while holding a parasol would have been really funny if it wasn't so dangerous.

Anyway, she gets almost all the way across and drops something, so she has to stop, turn around and pick it up. Well, by this time, she was holding up traffic. The first car in line was driven by another little old lady. First the driver honked the car horn and then walker started yelling. So the driver honked some more and the walker yelled some more. I guess little old ladies don't have much patience for other little old ladies. She finally got out of the road safely. Like I said, it would have been really funny if it hadn't have been so dangerous.

And as I said the other day, it is still only 74 here in Ventura, but it was near 100 up in Ojai where I rode today.

:wave2: Hello everyone! I am finally home, and finally able to sign on! Thank you so much to the powers that be!!!!

I actually bought a laptop in Omaha, and I could read everything, but couldn't post. I would have e-mailed everyone, but of course, didn't have my list....could only remember the ones who are on AOL.

Had a fun time, so great to see all the little nieces and nephews, they grow so fast.
We had some hot humid weather, a touch of rain, but some beautiful, cool cloudy days.

Now to start the "catch-up" game again, and turn around and head for Florida.

Right now, I need to finish unpacking and start some laundry....so glad I'll be able to check back in and say "hi" now!
I'll be back later.....missed everyone a lot, but I enjoyed keeping up with the posts, anyway!

Stacey

Ken, you should write a book. Zen and the Art of Bicycle Maint... oh, wait, that's been done. Funny story. Sounds like you get plenty of opportunities to observe human nature from your bike.

Stacey, welcome back! You were sorely missed. Now back to business as usual, our thread has been falling down the page a bit.

Ken I love your sense of humor. I really admire your determination to be able to do the kind of miles you are doing. Good for you!

Stacey - welcome back - glad you were able to get back on!

Happy Sunday!

All unpacked. I don't know why I keep doing this to myself.
Oh, wait....I remember....because I love to travel. I wish I was "Bewitched". Careful, Paul...I know what you're thinking!

Guess we're going out for pizza.

We had some thunder, lightning, and a whole 2 minutes of rain. Now the sun is back out. Unbelievable!

Now that I have successfully eaten my way across the midwest, I think I can probably just roll to Florida in ten days.
Here's my trip report:
Arrived Friday night, ate dinner out
Saturday, went to a going away party for my middle brother who's moving to Kansas City, they had a spread of food like nothing I had ever seen before.
Sunday: Had huge lunch after church with other brother's family.
Monday: Had lunch out. Had dinner at a great restaurant on the 20-something floor called the 360...for it's great views.
Tuesday: Had dinner out with my niece and her family
Wed: Had dinner at an amazing steakhouse
Thursday: Believe it or not, I honestly don't remember where or with whom we ate, but I'm sure we did.
Friday: Lunch out with just my mom, Dinner out with my niece and her family
Saturday: Lunch out with brother & his family. Dad wanted to go to dinner before our flight back to Phoenix, but I was too full from lunch.
Somewhere in here, we shopped a little...I bought the kids school supplies and mailed them home. We ferried the kids to movies and the pool.....I repaired my parent's toilet & answering machine, and Mom and I visited the riverboat casino.

Now I am preparing to eat my way around Walt Disney World.
Warning to all who are attending the WDW mini-meet: I DO NOT look like my picture anymore! Oh well. I guess it's a good thing they only weigh your bags at the airport!!

Talk to you after we go eat pizza!!!

I will give you a break at Epcot, there it is drink around the world instead of eat around the world. (With a bit of shopping thrown in to get out of the heat.) I only eat around the world at Food & Wine Festival.

That sounds okay to me, but I hope you have the location of all the potties memorized!!!

Paul - I forgot to ask - how was the DIS meet you went to?

Mary - Thanks for the kind words.

The best part of this whole bicycle thing is that I'm raising money for a good cause. This year I've raised $3650. Last year was about $3400 and the year before my son and I raised about $5400. If it wasn't for the fund raising event, I probably would be sitting on the couch watching TV all the time. Having people donate money is a good motivator to work hard and be ready for the event. I've got about 60 people that have donated anywhere from $10 to $500. They are the real stars of the event. Without them, it wouldn't happen.

Well, my dad came down Friday night and ended up cutting a hole in my basement ceiling to find our water leak. Had to keep cutting and cutting as it was leaking elsewhere and flowing down to the low spot before it dripped out. We ended up with about a 3 ft X 2 ft hole in our ceiling. Ah, well, could have been worse. My dad talked ohiomickey through fixing the leak with pipe cutters and a compression fitting. Seems to be working like a charm. Whew!

2nd week of acting classes start tomorrow.

HI all

Welcome home Stacey!!!!! looking forward to drinking/eating our way around Epcot with you and jilljill.

Had a bit of an eventful weekend here. Had to leave work early on friday as I was having some problems with my blood pressure and one of our OB's made me go immediately to my family doc. spent the remainder of the day home in bed as the new meds knocked me on my backside. BP has been fine since. New meds are working well.

Saturday DS had a Tae Kwon Do Tournament. He placed second in one event and third in another so he was flying high. Today had to shop for something to wear to my class reunion next Sat. Still didn't find anything so I guess I'll have to go shop again tomorrow, after work.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!!

Vicki
:boat:

Vicki, that doesn't sound like fun. Glad that new medicine is working for you.

Looks like I will have some catching up to do when we hit Epcot. Our flight gets in at 3:40, so we will be along presently, surely before the dinner reservation time. I have always wanted to drink and eat my way around the world, but if we make it in good time, a couple of countries perhaps? Stacey, will you have your cel phone?

The DIS meet was great. It's always good to meet people who are just as crazy we are!

Vicki - Our anniversary dinner was the DIS meet!

Welcome back Stacey! We missed you!

Paul

I forgot to say Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to the ones I missed.

Paul...Mom says "Hi" and "He's such a nice man"

Diana, I'll have my phone with me...do you still have the number?
Megan and I are going to spend the early part of Saturday at Epcot, and then go back to the GF to swim or rest. We'll head back over to Epcot about an hour or two before dinner so that we can hit some lands before dinner. I may be at the hotel when you get in, but will still have the phone on.

Vicki....can't wait to see you all too! Keep taking those meds, and hope you feel better. I have a BP monitor that I have to use at home, but it's because my blood pressure can get dangerously low....pretty weird, huh? Congrats to DS!!! That is way cool. Glad he's not a wrestler.....we'd really have to watch him with the girls!!!

Ken.....53 miles??? Wow. Now we know who not to challenge to a race. But if we have to row, I want you in my life boat!

Guess I'd better head for bed. I'm not on vacation anymore....at least this week. Have to go to work tomorrow....and was going in every day, but Jay's sister is coming to town Tuesday, so I guess I'll be entertaining.

Anyway..."see" you all tomorrow....

HAPPY MONDAY MORNING TO ALL OF THE EAST COAST CRUISERS...AND THE REST OF US, TOO!

Goodnight,
Stacey

Morning all. Yes, we had rain again yesterday, and this morning. If I start seeing the animals pair up, I'm going to get worried!

Vicki, congrats to your son. I didn't know he was still taking Tae Kwon Do. Sounds like he's doing well with it!

Ken, way to go with the riding. It takes a lot of dedication, but I agree with you that it's easier to keep it up when you have a solid goal in mind.

Stacey, welcome back! All these vacations are just getting you ready for the cruise (deck 9 chicken tenders anyone? or maybe just a bit of ice cream to go with those great cookies at scoops?) lol!

Hope everyone has a great week. Lisa

:flower1: Good Morning Cruisers! :flower1:

Happy (?) Monday everyone

Everyone ready for another week? Stepped on the scale this morning and the news was not good. Too much party over the weekend I guess :( Did my walking so that's good.

Paul - I got your picture and it looks great. I'll try and have it up tonight.

Off to read the boards and then off to work. Have a great day everyone!
