20040131 ~ Cruising Jan 31 2004 Western Who's with us?

Cake and ice cream thing is done so we're ready to do some serious chair dancing and elbow bending. So, come on over I told the local police officer we were expecting a bunch of out of towners over and he's said he'd move his radar trap over to the other side of the barn.

He just wants everyone to know that the town closes at 10 PM. Sam moved his herd to the north 40 so the cattle trough is open all nite for any polar bear swimmers.

My DW (We have a strange and wonderful relationship. I'm strange and she's wonderful!) has a family packing tip.

I like that tip. My DH has one too and I quote, "Don't worry about it, you can buy it when we get there." He also has another favorite quote, "What do you need that for?" These two tips do not go together. I will be packing a lot in lots of bags.

You know, the rumor around Common Grounds (back in the day when there WAS a common grounds!!) was that the library - reading area was supposed to be some big make-out spot... probably because hardly anyone knows about it and that it IS so quiet and undisturbed... I think i saw it once... maybe i'm imagining things...

I know nothing, nothing!! My gosh Princess, is this something you should know about? Yes, it was quiet, but secluded, probably not. I do think there was a door, but it had a little window, and....geez, your Mom is going to be so mad at me!

That's a great tip Barbara! I was telling DH that I was brining some wine, beer, scotch, and maybe fruity drink mix on board. He nixed the beer and fruity drinks b/c he said he really enjoyed meeting all the international bar tenders on board. Wow, how did we miss this on our one and only DCL cruise?

I'm impressed. I've read every guide book, web site, board, you name it. I've never seen that about Palo. Now, I'll ask DH later if he remembers seeing the bar and if he thought we could go there to have a drink w/out a ressie. He'll probably tell me sure, he saw that. Even worse, he'll say we've done that! I have memory lapses. It makes everything new again. I like that.

BTW, we have 13 years between our oldest and the younger two.

Juli -- I may love to clean before a vacation however I don't like to clean much any other time....right now the childrens playroom is such a disaster with all of the added Christmas toys that I dread getting started in it! However I will find the time to get it done...maybe I will start it right now!!

Annette, just close the door and walk away. Honestly, my MIL used to clean her boys room (4 in one room!) once per year. They called it destroying their ecosystem. She took a picture of the before and after and put it on their door. Otherwise, she never went in.

Princess Aurora in Blue -- Now that I have heard that the official make out room is the library I may have to bring along a red tie for the door handle... If you see the red tie DO NOT ENTER!!! (hee!!)
Of course you are all welcome to borrow it!!!

Great idea all you Romantic Escape folks. Better put that ribbon on your door on turn down night or you'll be getting people knocking on your door to come out an play.

Well I already asked this, but I'm not sure if everyone skipped over it lol or just if no one knew the answer.

What movies are going to be playing on the ship when we go?

And about the libary thing I was told on our last cruise that there are cameras everywhere, so don't do anything outside of your stateroom that you don't want others to see.

Bobby

Bobby! I thought it was your Mom! I'll see if I can find the post with the movies. It just dawned on me if you search the forum using movies, you are just going to get a reference to this thread. I will call next week and post everything I find out.

Oh, way to go about the cameras. Those guys in the security room are going to be so disappointed!

We will also stock up on the glow sticks and necklesses.

Any other little tricks to keep in mind??

Mike - we have glow everything. Got them at the dollar store. Don't know what we are going to do with them, but it looked fun.

You need to bring your own bubbles I believe.

Tricks??? Cheapy over the door shoe holder for toiletries, nightlight, door magnets so you can find your room easier, highlighter to highlight daily activities in Navigator, bag with a handful of stateroom drinks...use it for souveniers once you've consumed the beverages. That's all I can think of for now.

To the people that clean their homes before they leave-- I think it something our mothers insitilled in us-- that we have to clean before we can go out and play!
You haven't met my mother! I love her -- but I didn't learn how to clean from her. It might be only my DSis who would appreciate the humor of this. Although I don't clean before leaving to the extent that I am reading that some of you do, I do like to make sure things are in order before I go. I have wondered if it's some sort of morbid thing -- in case I don't make it back. Although it is nice coming home to a neat house.

Has anyone been able to get a good deal on a rental car for when we get off the ship? (I know we don't want to think about it but..) For some reason the rates are much more expensive for getting a car after the cruise then getting one before. Anyone know what's going on that week?

I am still debating about where to put my daughter in the kids programs.

Annette - Will your kids be ok if you split them up? Do you know what they would like to do, or won't they know until they are in the groups? I'm not sure I'm going to be much help here. I would put my kids in the oldest group possible. They would be really upset with being in the younger group. I guess you have to figure out which will work better, splitting them up at first and then putting them back together if it doesn't work out, or the other way around.

You can visit the club and lab on the first day and I'm sure it will all fall into place then.

I admit that I have to clean my house right befoe I leave too. Even when we leave at 4am I have to make all of the beds before we can go. What is some one came in and saw unmade beds!?! What would they think of me!?! I definitely got this from my mom. She would have washed herself right out of the house so that there were no footprints anywhere if she'd have had a place to put the bucket!

Photonut: I'm putting my DD in the club. She wil be 60 days from her 8th birthday. I was going top try to move her up but then decided that she would like the club activities more. She's in grade 2. Her best friend is also on the cruise and will be in the club as well. She will be 8 a week after the cruise. If your DD wants to go into the club there will be at least two other girls almost exactly the same age and in the same grade as she is.

I don't have a lot of experience with the different ages, but I recently read a post that made sense. I think the jist of it was to start them out in their own age groups and start them the first day, because it's easier to make friends right away. Once the kids are already getting to know each other it might be harder to 'break in'. And this way, if later one moves to the others group they would know each other and one may have already formed some friendships. Whereas, it might be harder to go the other way when one moves into a different group all alone. I hope that made sense. When I read the post it did and it sounded like it might apply to your situation.

Have fun partying tonight with Cheri and Dean. :happy1: I am afraid I have to call it a night. I am pooped. :crazy2: It's been a long week. Picked up DH from the airport. He isn't feeling well. Drove back on roads that had enough snow to be tricky, but the salt crews hadn't made it out yet. It took twice as long to get home as usual. At least his flight landed before things got too bad. He has to go again next week -- drive to Circleville, OH. Hope the weather cooperates!! :(

Have a great night!!! TGIF!!!

OK, it's official - town is closed for the nite. Kim says the roads are tricky and some of Sam's herd got outside the fenceline so it isn't safe for me to try to make it to bedpan alley tonite, if you know what I mean

See you tomorrow. Remember to check out www.portcanaveral.org tomorrow to see the Magic in port. The next one is ours!!

Good tips, so that is what the door magnets are for. I'll see if I can find one with snow.

Happy Birthday Dean glad the cows are moved and won't be corrupted.

Hi, Jen right?
Our rental rate is more on the outbound trip as well. On the way in, we have a one-way from Port Charlotte, FL to Port Canaveral for $35/day. On the way out we have a one-way from Port Canaveral to Ft. Lauderdale for $49. Theses are both full size vehicles with taxes and fees included. This was through Avis. I used the codes at www.mousesavers.com. I wouldn't call this a great deal, just the cheapest I could find. I explained our higher cost on the out-bound b/c of the location we are originating the rental in (Port Canaveral). I have no idea why it would be so much more.
