20040131 ~ Cruising Jan 31 2004 Western Who's with us?

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc hi cyberkashi Dee Dee would love to chat with your dd, sent us a pm and Dee Dee will write back :D

cyberkashi forgot to say we have early seating but if you like they can arrange to meet up on the ship :earsgirl:

Hi, group!

So, now I'm a little confused . Being first timers, we booked the Disney snorkel and island tour, thinking it was basically a wading thing among the wildlife and I would get the chance to send my in-laws a postcard from Hell. We do not snorkel, and a couple of us do not even swim. Would we be better off doing something else that we may enjoy more?

Now, where has Karyn gone again? Is she running across the country again looking for a place to put down new roots? Time to check in with us, lady. The conga line is getting longer and longer!

Dean:

Disney has several tours that include snorkeling with the stingrays. The one that you are on is not the Captain Jack tour. The stingrays are on a sandbar and even DD (age 6) was able to stand up there. But...you have to swim out to the sand bar. You cannot just walk of a dock into the water (as best as I can remember). I hope that is helpful.

Thank you, Jami, that did help.

The implication from the Passporter was that we simply stepped off the boat into waist deep water and then enjoyed feeding the stingrays. So now we are rethinking that excursion :happy1: for the glass bottom boat and relaxing at Rum Point beach. Anyone know anything about that one?

Dean, Gail and I are considering renting a scooter to go to Hell and back (I know the way ;) ,just ask Gail!). Would you consider joining us? We're not big into swimming or snorkeling but would like to do some beach time at Grand Cayman. How about Randy and Ann? what do you guys think about that?

By the way, welcome to the 45 Day Shuffle!!!:cool1:

HADD!!! :wave2:

Gary, I'll run it by the commander-in-chief this evening, if you know what I mean. ;) Thanks, do you have any more info?

I'm liking this countdown thingy. Just gets smaller and smaller!

Thanks for the post on the other thread, The4OfUs!!! That sounds reasonable to me! $25 to tool around the Island on a scooter sounds like fun!

The thing that's bugging me, and I've been looking around...I read on some site out there (goodness knows I've been to enough of them!) that at one of the stops, either Grand Cayman, or Cozumel, that scooters are available but not recommended for a variety of reasons - including major potholes, dangerous local drivers, poor road conditions, and bad directions...BUT...I might have dreamt it as I can't find it again! *grin*

We want to do scooters at Key West. :teeth:

Oops!!! I was trying to delete an old user name and forgot to log out!!! My bad!!! That was me posting abour the scooter cost.

The roads around Key West are usually in good shape. You might be right about Grand Cayman.

Gail and I were thinking about Scooters at Key West. We also found something pretty cool. Check out this site!

As Sam said: "Well, I'm back. . ." and the credits rolled!

My first priority and my countdown for the past three years culminated last night with experiencing The Lord of the Rings -Trilogy Tuesday in downtown Chicago (a promotional event that I was lucky enought to snag tickets for.) We got there at 10am to scout out the situation (the movies - all three, the first two in all their extended glory, started rolling at 1pm) anyway the theater was already 1/2 full, but we got excellent seats and had a wonderful wonderful time, even if we were in the theater for almost 15 hours. We were free to come and go and AMC River East did a fabulous job of hosting the event. I laughed, I cried, I have to go back and see it again today.

Sorry guys, first things first!

Welcome Jami! And don't you go scaring those good folks about Stingray city! It is a great experience, Dean and you should definitely try it. You won't need to snorkle or swim to experience it. They are very adept at working with all kinds of folk. Capt Marvin's last year was wonderful - but they do go to some great snorkeling spots as well, which is why I think you should send Matt with us. Jami, we (3 and Matt, if we can talk Dean into parting with him) and Renae will be doing the 1/2 day on Grand Cayman with Capt Marvins - it will be almost like a private boat. Join us! Seriously, it was the highlight of our entire cruise last year, don't miss out on it. Dean, I think tho, that including it w/ the island tour is a good choice for you and Cheri. And, stingrays don't bite - they don't have teeth - tho they have a hard cartilege and you can get pinched as you feed them. You won't lose fingers, tho you may get a hickey! (yes it was waist deep water and the only reason I used my mask (you don't need mask and snorkle) was because I have a corrected lens in it and didn't want to wear my glasses out in the water (blind otherwise). Jill's not a great swimmer, snorkeler- Randy is even worse, but we wouldn't consider ever missing Stingray City, ever!

The question about tables for 4 - they often seat families of four by themselves. We were seated that way but asked to be put w/ another family who are now some of our best friends - and we met them right here on DIS. My new best friends are going to be Dean and Cheri even if they aren't LOTR fans and don't like to snorkel!

Randy's on his way back to Seattle right now, he'll be home Friday and leaves on 1/1 to drive out there to stay. So the window of opportunity to pack for the move is between Christmas and NYE! I guess we'll be busy. We've been doing a bunch of farewell parties, kinda sad, you know.

Cheers to all, I'll try to check in more often - it's a good excuse to get away from packing.

The electric cars look neat...but where do you park? As I recall from former visits to key west, parking is a bit at a premium. :crowded:

Those electric cars DO look so COOL! And the 4 of us can be in one, and just "tour" the area maybe, if parking is bad like Jami remembers...it'd just be something different. Thanks for the link!

We got our Disney Cruise Video yesterday - a nice end to a lousy day for me, I watched it twice in a matter of hours.

Karyn,

The three of us might want to take you up on your share a boat offer. I haven't checked the site lately, but I remember there being 2, 1/2-day cruises--morning and afternoon. Which one are you going on?

:bounce: doin' the Happy Mommy (tm) Dance :bounce:

After looking and looking and looking for a Youth Large or XL Tom Brady Official NFL Jersey (say that three times fast), I FINALLY found one online, and ordered it - the #2 thing on DS's Xmas list!

Maybe now I wont' feel so bad that I can't find the #1 thing, a Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Disk Launcher - apparently THAT is the hottest thing around for his age group, and I refuse to pay more than the $39 that Mattel wants for it! He'll have to be satisfied with the jersey he's been begging for since summertime. *grin*

Now to hope it's really in-stock, and not just a figment of the website's imagination....

My credit cards are telling me I apparently FINALLY got in the Xmas mood... *snicker* Don't tell DH... ;)

Jami, that would be great! We'll do the morning one cause the ship isn't in port all that long and I wouldn't want to worry about gettng back in time - that way also it leaves a bit of time to do some shopping. We haven't booked it yet. I wonder if we're enough yet for a private boat?

Karyn

Hey youse guys!!! Click on this link to see the Magic in Saint Thomas today!!!

Never mind. It's gone now!!! :(

Hello Everyone -

The weather here is so fine, I can't believe it... all of our snow has melted, the sun is shining, and I don't have to wear a parka... life is good... if that nice weather can just last til Jan. 28th, I will be very happy! Then it can get cold!

Gary, we are planning to beach it in Grand Cayman... if you are interested, by all means, we'd be happy to have you and Gail join us... don't forget your thong... those electric cars look very cool!! do you think I could trust Randy on one of those? I bet he could figure out a way to make it go faster...

I read in the Dreams Unlimited newsletter that they don't have filet on the menu anymore for the Captain's Gala. They replaced it with turkey!! what's that all about? For my red meat loving family, this is just not good!! Hopefully they will keep it on the menu at Palo...

HADD!

Good morning, all!

Only a week until Christmas and then the countdown really begins! Had 40-50 mph winds here last nite and blew our decorations all over the place. So, what better thing to do at 6 AM but chase down decorations and try putting them back up in the dark.

Good news! I FOUND MY LIME GREEN SNEAKERS!! Now I'll be decked out in style. :smooth:

We have made up a few refrigerator magnets as a reminder of our trip. Got some extra so if you'd like one, PM me with your address and I'll drop it in the mail.

Have a great day!

Dean

We're getting lots of snow today. Oh Joy!!!!
I was hoping the fact that I filled my gas conmtainer for my snow blower would scare it away but alas, it didn't work!!!!:( :worried:

Thanks for the magnets, Dean!! Get them while you can, folks, they're very cool and will look great on your cabin door!!! I plan to add a few touches of my own, of course.
