20040131 ~ Cruising Jan 31 2004 Western Who's with us?

Welcome Jill!!! I'm sorry, I totally spaced the e-card I meant to send, but I'll say Congrats and welcome and we can't wait to meet you!

Oh...and now my daughter thinks this is "standard" for graduating, so I guess we're going on a cruise again when SHE graduates. At least that gives me time to save $$! *grin*

Dean, I think we can find you a toque, eh, that will have room for your speedo...
Thanks, Annie. I'll have a bucket hat to match my shoes so won't actually need a toque, eh? Just really curious as to what they are.
Thanks for the magnets-- we got them today! Very Speedy! You are so sweet to send them to us! They will be great souveniers after the cruise. Dean-- when will you take the DCL bus to the cruise terminal? It would be so fun to be on the same bus with you!
I'm glad you like them! I'll be on the very first bus, if at all possible. I'm a fairly early riser so I'll probably be in the lobby waiting on the driver by 4 AM. Maybe if I bring him a cup of coffee we'll leave before 8:30-10:00.

. Sorry, Cap, you'll have to get your own paper that day. Priorities y'know? And, I actually am very quiet and reserved. If it weren't for my lime green, you'd probably never know who I was.
I have an appt. to get my hair colored next Friday-- no highlights-- just to cover the greys!
Ha! In my case, not worried about coloring the grey just having enough hair left to color.

Princess, did your mom tell you about my neat shoes yet? They are great - sure to embarrass a Homecoming King, eh Matt?

DID I MISS THE PARTY? WHERE IS EVERYONE? I S'POSE EVERYBODY IS AT KARYN'S meeting the Princess.

Cheri and I are going to a movie tonite.

Matt's gone to Sioux Falls to see a play with some of his friends. So, we'll be back but it will be late. Julie, as official beer tender, save me a beer okay?

See ya' later-

You seem a bit bewildered. Yes, you are going on a cruise in 2 weeks. What great parents you have! Magic happens. princess:

I wish I were home b/c I know they are in my mail box. Yes, Dean is very sweet to have sent them to us.

Karyn - went into Petoskey today. I bought a book for the cruise, "White Oleander". They have 2 bookstores and 1 Walmart now! Woohoo!

Dean & Cheri - I met a friend that is from Yankton, SD at the bookstore. In the big picture, that is not to far from you, eh?

I did not partake of the Zen (Very strong espresso drink). That would have me up at 5:00am again, and being the late night person I am, 5:00am does not work. Only if I fit in a siesta.

Juli

I spoke w/ DCL last week and they told me I could call them the week before and they would tell me the movie line-up. I will post what I find out.

Juli

I'm glad I like hearing myself so much. Now, remember, I am in a township that has 400 permanent residents. The nearest "town" is 6 miles away(Harbor Springs). That's close, but everythings closed up by now. The next town is 10 miles away(Petoskey). I've already been there once today. It's pretty quiet there tonight.

I'm heading to Karyn's!

Juli

Woo Hoo! Party at Karyn's tonight... Karen, I'm assuming that the appropriate attire for the men is speedos and toques... at least that's what I packed for Randy...
See you all there... Juli, it sound like you have the bar under control....

1) Do you live in the same state/town you were born and/or raised in?

2) If not, what brought you to the town you are in now? If so, what keeps you there?

Juli

OK, Juli - I was born in Continental United States, but not in a State / Town. Think about it and I'll tell you in another post.

After I left the Army, I was working for Philco-Ford in Pennsylvania. They transferred me to Ford, in Michigan. We've lived here in Canton, MI for 28 years and our roots are now here.

Dean, I assume I can't find the paper on the roof because of all the snow. No tip for you this week. If the service improves, then maybe I'll buy you a drink at the end of the month.

Nikki, you asked Judi about the electronic collars and invisible fence.

Really? Do those really work? Our little Silky Buddy is not one for listening once "free" - I did clicker training with him and he's so smart he got it at once, but once outside, he's deaf to that. I'd love to have a system where I knew he was "safe" running around outside, because he loves that and the run we have is just not liberating enough...
:(

They absolutely do work. Before we got it, Woody would escape through a door as we were opening it and be 1/2 mile away in the woods chasing squirrels, etc. Once we got the invisible fence installed and gave them about two weeks of training, both dogs know where the boundaries are (we've got about 1/2 acre) and stop there. As an example, this afternoon, there was a large white cat wandering in the back yard. Both dogs took off after the cat, but stopped about five feet from the boundary. Of course, they spent the next 1/2 hour patrolling to be sure the cat did not come back, but the system really does work.

I also laid a wire loop at our cottage property up north and just take the transmitter up with us. They now accept it up there also.

Cheri,

congratulations on Post #1700. You're coming on strong. If you keep it up, you might even beat Dean by the end of the month.

What happened to Matt - did we really scare him away?

I understand about small towns and everyone knowing everything you do. I was raised (not born) in a small town of about 300 in western Massachusetts. To make it even worse, my mother was a teacher at the only high school. Try having your mother as your English teacher.

I was born in the nation's capital, District of Columbia.

Tanning & Highlights - hmmmm - how come no guys are jumping in here?

Juli, Judi and are are going for the natural tan before the cruise. We'll be in Florida for six days before we leave port. I'm hoping that it will be sunny and warm, so my Michigan winter color can darken up. As far as hair highlights are concerned, I don't want to do anything that would cause my already very thinning hair to go faster. I'm just happy there is still enough left to comb.

Cap,
'I don't have any pets at the moment, but what happens if another dog comes onto your property and fights with your dogs, is there anything to deter other animals from getting in? I assume from your last post that cats can get in... I've always wondered about that...

Karyn,
I'll be right over for the party... it sounds as wild as the one at Juli's. Any disco going on??? If I can disco 'virtually' maybe I won't miss it so much on board... do do do do do do dodododo...

If you live where there are coyotes, and you have a cat or small dog, you've got to think abou this.

Get chair dancing Renae!

Jill, welcome to the "in the know" group. We can't wait to meet you in person. Hope your day has been wonderful.

P.S. I think you need to update your signature from 17 to 18, right?

Renae, other dogs don't come on my property more than once if my dachshunds see them. The work as a team, one snaps at the back heels, and the other at the front. Even the 100 pound dog down the street now walks in the street in front of my property.

Also, if there should really be a problem, my dogs would head for their small doggie door, and run and hide under the bed.
