2004-01-31 Western Cruise Afterglow

Juli,

We ate at the Tamerack craft place. They do a cafeteria style by the Greenbriar staff, and then Judi gets to look at all the crafts. It's just about 1/2 way from Hilton Head to us in Michigan.

I don't understand what this white stuff is here in Michigan. We really didn't get into any until we crossed the border.

I got my Disney Visa Card statement today - boy we sure had fun while on the vacation, and Disney was very prompt in posting the deposit for the rebooking.

Janice - sounds like some positive news huh? We have a friend who went through something similar and he is cancer free now. It took a long time and he has to go in for tests every year now. When it started, I think we all thought it would be a in/out thing. It has been a roller coaster. I don't wish it on anyone, but you are handling it well. Keep thinking about that great week on the Magic and take a look at those pictures often!

Cap & Judi - you are home! Hope Judi is better. I like her thinking about an Aprill cruise. Remember the power outage and ice storm? Better time that cruise for this years spring fling storm!

:earseek: Oh my gosh; please don't be offended but I am----ROFL; Do you by chance know speedo guy? I am from MA, and here we would guess speedo guy is from Quebec. Of course we New Englanders are far too uptight anyway, or so my DH says....

LOL!! As long as that's not one of the guys from OUR group, who started our DIS meet swinging black speedos (for formal night) in a circle over their heads....

Hope all is going well with the move. Glad to hear you made it back safe.

The certification we talked about is CISSP - www.isc2.org is a good place to start. The boards are more then just for the trips!

Got our pictures back from Sting ray city. I will give them to my sister dizmonof2 to get you copies. I also had them put onto CD if you want them that way.

Mike

Gary - thanks so much for posting the pictures. The group picture turned out great! Loved your hidden Mickey. Are you sure the speedo guy wasn't someone from our group? (Ok guys, everyone turn around so we can look at you from the rear.)Our weather hasn't been too bad this week, but we're supposed to get REALLY cold again on Sunday. How many days till spring?

Judi - sorry you're not feeling well. Those sinus infections can really zap your energy.

So how much do you think it would cost to buy our own ship and everyone have a boat condo? If Comcast can try to do a takeover, can't DIS try too?

We actually missed the chance - I saw an ad in the WSJ yesterday for a nice yacht at the Miami Boat Show this week. It cruises at about the same speed as the Magic, has five staterooms, jacuzi, nice dining room, etc. We could have gotten together and bought it as a shared DIS project. Oh well .... life is full of missed opportunities.

Judi's feeling better. However she was in a sharing mood, so now I have the bad cold.

She shared with me too then, or maybe I shared with her, since we got home I've been sniffling and coughing and just plain ICK. *sigh* Yesterday was worse than today, so I think I bottomed out there.

Planning on spending part of this weekend finishing up the unpacking, you know, all the scrapbook stuff, the souvenirs, and so on. Once I get my prints back from my digital photos, I'll be set to start making an album, I'm actually excited about that!! :)

Randy, Annie and Jaclyn debark tomorrow...then they'll be joining us in the terrible world of *gasp* reality... :( I hope they had fun without us all! *sob*

I am in the ranks of the 'got to finish unpacking'. We still have laundry to do too. :headache: At least there is not a lot else going on -- I need to sleep too. Not getting the kind of sleep like I was on the ship!! I love that rocking!

I hope I can get back in the swing of things by the beginning of next week!!!

Dean,

Judi wants to know where the suspenders and bow tie are for the picture.

Must not be a dress-up affair.

Glad you're back and have the computer graphics going.

Dean, it was supposed to be a secret!!!! :earseek: :scared: :scared1:

AH, yes, a week ago our meet and greet was just breaking up and we were heading for the lifeboat drill. :D We had a great time with a wonderful group of people.

Randy, Ann and J.J. are landlubbers again by now. They're easing the pain with a week at WDW!!! How tough is that???

HADD!!! :wave2:

HI fellow DISers...
We are back home now too.. We got back on lucky Friday the 13th from our extra week at WDW. We had a Grand time staying at the Grand Floridian...what a place!
It was interesting to hear all the comments locally about Comcast bid and the death of the cast member during the 3pm parade at Magic Kingdom.
However I unfortunately picked up some gastrointestinal bug on Tuesday of last week and am still battling with it. No one else (yet...knock on wood) has caught it. I have had severe vomitting and diarrhea for 6 days now. I was visited at 3am at the hotel by paramedics for dehydration and high fever on Thursday. I was medicated heavily to be able to fly home and am still not eating solids. Who needs Weight Watchers anyway... Have lost nearly 15 pounds and will be seeing my doctor tomorrow morning as it still is ongoing.
Just wondering if anyone else has had anything similar as at WDW they were trying to link my illness to the ship.

What an amazing time we had on the Magic. Thank goodness I got ill at the end of my trip instead of at the beginning.
Even though I did not partake in alot of the evening activities (this is hard to do with small children even with the kids club open late I could never leave my little darlings late in the evening) it was so nice to just be able to wave and say hello just while mingling onboard. Every time we were out of the cabin we would stop and say hello to Gary, Dean, Cap, Randy, The Shingles (I think I saw them the most as they were just 2 tables over at dinner every night!!) and even though I did not know your names I always recognized your faces and was always greeted with a smile.
What a lovely experience.

Here are my highs and lows!

1- loved the kids clubs...very professional and well cared for.
2- loved the character greetings and the autograph moments...was surprised to see so many characters on board.
3- the elaborate family style evening shows that beat hands down every other cruise line we have been on!!!

could do without...
1- cabin being across the hall from deck 7 laundry...was so HOT and humid!!! BIG BIG Mistake...will remember this for the future.
2- the elevators are TOO small...what is up with that??
3- No regular tea on board...it was all herbal!! I drink about 4 - 6 cups of Red Rose Orange Pekoe tea every day...closest I could get on board was Twinings English Breakfast.. next time will bring my own tea bags... this was the same in WDW so I guess this is common.
4-FOR CANADIANS travelling...if you are using your passport (we only brought birth certificates and drivers licences and this was fine) you ALSO need to bring your drivers license too. When checking in they take your passports and return them on your last day. So to get on the ship in ports you still need photo ID. Luckily for us they took our Birth certificates and we still had our Drivers licenses for ID. MANY people were in a situation with only their passports so be sure to bring more than forms of photo id with you.

Well I have written a novel....

Hope all is well with everyone!

Welcome home Annette! I hope you feel better soon, that sounds horrible!!

I agree about the laundry, that's the rooms I'd avoid if at ALL possible, you could feel the heat a long ways down the hall!! And while I like the smell of fresh laundry, the chattering would probably make me bonkers. Nevermind "noisy cabins" to list, I say list the "laundry cabins"!

Just visited my mom to show her all our photos and stuff, and she pulled out pics from when she and my dad worked on board, funny to see how much has changed while so much has stayed the same!

Bad way to start the morning, I know that DH talked to many of our onboard friends about his big 3400+ people breakfast that was today - I got a call from him in the Emergency Room before it started...he and a partner were transferring 100 cups of coffee from the thing they made it in, to the carafe to take to the function, and one of the handles broke - it poured down his legs and on his foot. 2nd degree burns on his legs and foot...still waiting for him to get home. :( I think the "Magic" has worn off and we need to all go back...everyone start packing again! ;)

Annette,

We're sorry to hear that you have been sick. I have not heard of anyone else from our group who had any intestinal type illness. Several of us appear to have gotten colds, but they are essentially bad head colds.

We're glad you were able to fly home. We have a friend who went on another cruise line, got sick with an intestinal illness, and is still in a hosptal in the Carribean. They don't know when / if he will recover enough to be able to be evacuated.

Unfortunately you didn't get to ease into this cold snowy weather. Judi and I drove back, so were able to gradually accept the concept. You had to just plunge right in.

Hope you get better quickly.

My oldest DD (9) seemed to have caught the same bug as photonut. On the last night of the cruise she fell asleep at the table. This was odd for her as she doesn't need a lot of sleep but we chalked it up to the sun. We took her back to the room where she promptly went to bed. Soon after that the vomitting started. It lasted for the next 48 hours. We were supposed to go to Disney after getting off the the ship but instead ended up checking into the Hyatt at the airport until our fight. She slept all day and the whole way home on the flight. She never had diarrhea but she is still getting headaches aver a week later. We're still trying to find out what it is!

Feel better soon Annette! This one knocked my DD for a loop and she's normally VERY healthy. (this monday was her first ever sick day from school and she's in grade 4) If the two are connected it sounds as if some one got on the ship sick! Hmm, this sounds like fuel for the debate board!:teeth:

:earsgirl: :earsboy: princess: princess:

We got an e-mail from Randy, Ann and J.J. yesterday saying they had a nice second week on the Magic but they missed alll of us!!! They're at WDW this week before they finally go home and resume reality like the rest of us!!!

Dean, I downloaded that picture and showed it to our friends without telling them the whole story. They all believed it was me! I don't know how to take that. ;) Who did the modification, you or Matt? Whoever it was, it's a great piece of work!

Gail and I haven't bee sick since we got back. (Knock wood)

HADD!!! :wave2:

Matt gets the credit for that one, Gary. Dad made the "suggestion" and he did the work.

Have you heard anything from Karyn and Randy? Hope things are working out for them.

Tell Gail "HI" for us. Take care.

Dean
