2004-01-31 Western Cruise Afterglow

Made it back late Saturday night.

Great vacation with the highlight being sting ray city.

Sorry I missed the first day meeting but was in ship shock looking over everything.

The Kabuli clan(Randy, Karyn and Jill) made it back safe and sound. They're having to deal with some personal issues right now but they wanted me to post that information.

HADD!!! :wave2:

Hope all is ok...Karyn and I never got to discuss books like we wanted to! *sob* BOY did we have alot less free time than I thought, huh?

I wonder how Randy, Annie and Jaclyn are faring on the second leg of their back to back cruises...

Nevermind...they're on a cruise..I'm at work...they're MORE than fine... *grin*

I miss running into all you guys! Honestly, Gary and Gail, do you ever NOT smile, you brightened the ship up just being there! I have some great video of you guys, Mr. Cruella Da Ville... I should've had you and Randy autograph something before you become the next Simon & Garfunkle (or Capt. and Tenille *wink*)

Yes, we saw Gary and Gail (and Cheri, Dean, and Matt) wherever we went. Seeing that Hidden Mickey on Gary's head on the "Big Screen" at Golden Mickeys was priceless! Even Peter said, "Hey, don't we know him?"

I'm wondering if Annie will get a second shot at Parasailing at CC? I think it was too windy for her to go last week.

Well, I would've liked to spend more time with everyone as well. I think I absolutely freaked Tony out when he met so many of you at Parrot Cay on the first day. He just mumbled, "Who were all those people?" and "I'll never remember all their names!"

BTW, I couldn't help myself and booked a 7-day EC cruise today. It is for 1/22/05. DCL gave me the same discounts and shipboard credit I would've gotten if I had booked on the ship. Most likely we will be moving that date since we have a 2-wk trip to Colorado in early December 2004. Tony says he would rather cruise every other year anyway. I just couldn't pass up that deal and will hopefully be able to move it to another value date and retain the savings. Who knows, I just know I have to start selling stuff on Ebay to put towards the next cruise!

I have been racking my brain as to how to get on the Wonder for a 4-day cruise. The shipboard incentive wasn't enough to entice me and the DVC points discounts, while tempting, only let you book 11-months out with no changes allowed without rebooking at a fee. There just is no way I can get that in this year even if I could scrape up the cash.

I am having great difficulty getting back into the swing of things in the "real world". I keep hoping I wake up from a dream and am in a deck chair snoozing.....zzzzzzz....:cool2: :genie: :sunny:

When I get back, I'll try to set up a small table of who has rebooked for what dates and how firm it is. We rebooked for the Eastern on the first February 2005 sailing, but really want to move it to a repositioning cruise, IF they have one.

We're on the final leg home today - Beckley WV to Canton MI. Yesterday we were easing into finding white stuff on the ground, at least in the NC /VA / WV mountains.

Today we will find out if our dogs will admit to knowing us, or if they have decided to move out with the house sitter.

Have a safe remaining trip back, Cap! That is nice of you to offer to put that list together.

Juli, cool beans on making the booking. I was wondering last night if you decided to do it. DH is the financial planner and even he thought that the incentive was worth it even though DCL has our money (the deposit) for the next year to two years. --- AND I am with you, I am having a tough time getting back into the swing of things in the "real world".

I'm having tough re-entry into the real world too. I thought vacations were supposed to make you feel rested? I'm having more trouble then usual dragging my sorry ol' butt out of bed every morning. It seems that 25% of the roofs were leaking at the shopping center while I was gone. Our area had heavy rains all last week that melted most of the snow.

I find it hard to believe that my DS has absolutely NO homework after missing a week of school, or so he says. DD's lack of sleep on the cruise has finally caught up to her. She went to bed at 8:30 last night and still had trouble getting up this morning. She burnt her scalp last week and now has huge flakes of peeling skin in her hair which is a big fashion faux pas in middle school.

Did anyone see the news blurb about Comcast putting out an offer to buy Disney! Are we all aghast or is it just me? Considering the price of my cable and the fact that they have the same movies on over and over and over, I can't see that being a good thing. (It might make for better TV on the ships though.) Comcast Magic just doesn't have that same ring to it.

I must say that is an interesting development!!! I can only guess how that would affect DVC, DCL and the theme parks. Another big headache for Mr. Eisner!!!

Ohhhhhh...ok that explains the thread about the comcast takeover! DUH. I didn't hear that!!

Wait, buy the WHOLE company? Can they do that to a company like Disney? Doesn't that just seem inconceivable??? Certain things should just be left alone, and I think Disney is an entity unto itself!!

I'm with you guys on the "painful reentry"...how come I could have more than one beer on board and be totally fine, but I come home and one beer has me snoring on the couch...I'm exhausted, my feet hurt, and I can't concentrate on work... *sigh*

OK that's it, everyone back to the ship! It's the only way....

I read that the initial takeover bid was 66 BILLION (that's right, with a B) dollars. Talk about inconceivable! It's hard to imagine that amount of money.

Poor Walt's probably rolling in his grave (or his cryogenic tank, if rumors are true). It's almost as sacrilegious as having a business taking over a religion or a school district.

Exactly!! It's like Disney is a "living being" and they're trying to buy it, that's the closest I can come to describing it...

It makes me sad. :( It would impact the feeling of "a family run" type business, even tho I know it's NOT anymore, it's a giant corporate monster, the Microsoft of the Entertainment world... *sigh*

Does that mean Disney Vacation Club members would get free cable? *wink*

Chickenlady and her crew have returned to the "real" world..and not liking it. We all had the most fabulous time....but after upgrading to a Cat. 3, we'll never be able to take another normal cruise. DH loved our pictures, especially stingray city. Said it looked like so much fun that he'd have loved to fly in to meet us at each port (what that man wouldn't do to avoid seasickness!).

I haven't even thought about planning another vacation...still doing the Dr. thing. Everytime I think they've done the final test and that I'll have some answers, they come up with something new. I should finally get all the biopsy, culture and PET scan results tomorrow but they called today to tell me that several of the blood tests they ran before the cruise are abnormal (liver function and an assortment of others). Unfortunately, I can't blame the froofroo drinks.

We're all hanging in there with you, Janice! Keep us informed, I'm sending positive thoughts your way...

::yes::

We're home. Stopped at the doctor's office even before we got home for Judi. She's got infected sinus and a migraine on top of it. After two shots, penicillin Rx, decongestant Rx, she's in bed, but the doctor says she will feel much better tomorrow.

The dogs did admit to knowing us after 2 1/2 weeks, which is good. The snow in the driveway is baaad!.

My initial reaction to the Comcast offer to buy Disney is great concern. My experience with Comcast, as recently as two weeks before the cruise, is that they can't even spell "service", let alone deliver it. Comcast and Disney seems like an oxymoron. If they end up getting Disney, then I think those of us who are DVC members will have to start really reading the fine print in our contracts to be sure we continue to get what we bought.

Judi thinks it might be good to go back to Orlando and do a short cruise in April. Her logic is that there is still a possibility of frost here, so you can't garden, therefore might as well go where it is really warm.

work, cold, snow, walmart i need out i need to be on a boat in no snow land. well time for bed having trubel getting back to sleeping in the day work nights. our trip was grate from a-z can't book for next 6year jacob has oprations so may the next year 2 years goes fast right good night cheryl.:sunny: `1:wave:

I took our film in to be processed yesterday so I'll have the picture disks this week-end. Work has been crazy and has spilled over into my evenings so I haven't had time to post pictures, but I will eventually, I promise!!! Especially the classic one Karyn sent me, you'll love it!!!:teeth:

We watched the video we took Tuesday night and it just made us miss everybody more!!!:(

Hang in there, Janice and Judi!!!

HADD!!! :wave2:

Glad I upgraded to the suite....it'll give me lots of positive memories to recall in the next couple of weeks.

Just returned from my Dr. appt. Apparently the biopsy only showed inflammation (which I knew) but the PET scan I had Tues. still showed abnormal lymph nodes around my trachea. So its off to the cardio-thoracic surgeon next week. They are going to have to go in and biopsy those nodes. My oh-so-positive dr. told me that the pattern on the PET scan was not indicative of inflammation but more like cancer........Here we go again.

Walt Suite here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Janice

Wow, Janice, you're on a roller coaster ride, huh... :( Doctors make a person want to scream at times...I think we should focus on the ones that say it looks more positive, I'm a firm believer in the power of positive thinking...and if we're all sending our positive vibes your way, all bad things don't stand a chance!!

hey, who is going to scan our group photo and post it, do you want me to later tonight? :)

Hey Cap & Judi,
We've stayed in Beckley on the way down and back from Florida as well. The Country Inn & Suites usually gets our business as well as the Italian restaurant across the highway.

Hope you aren't too shocked when you get home. The temp isn't bad, but we had a bit of shoveling to do.

Thinking about you today Janice. I know that it's an ongoing battle and you can hang in there and fight. Hope you got good news today.

Juli
