Noticed the 2003 charts for the Disney Collection this morning while browsing the member's web site.

Just did a very quick comparison to the 2002 requirements and it appears that weeknights went up 2 points for all resorts/views and that weekend nights went up 4.

Using points for one of the non-DVC WDW resorts is becoming less and less attractive. JMHO. YMMV.

I agree, Carol, but then I can't get excited about going back to staying in a hotel room anyway. We did pay one night of a cash ressie for AKL in January, but doubt I would ever use points for it.

After the ****HUGE**** increase last year, anything but a decrease is extremely dissapointing news. As I have posted before about the DCL and DC, I don't understand the reason for these large annual increases, as room rates across the board should increase at an equal rate. points required should remain almost constant.

I guess the real question here is does anyone really know the actual dollars DVC pays for any of these trades???? A well kept rack rate secret???

I tried my darndest last night to get the charts to load! I'll have to go try again.

I agree that it's a disappointment that they went up at all. We went 5+ years with no increase and then had incredible increases with last year's adjustment. I expected them to stay stable for a year. Oh well.....it's better than another big jump.

the only time we stay in a hotel is when we're out of points anyway...so I guess I won't worry about it. Though I do think it would be easier in some ways to splurge for concierge when its points and not $.......maybe not. I do want to try it someday buy can never justify the cost either way!

Frankly, even at the old rates, it wasn't a good deal for most people. I had a discussion with Matt Gibbs a couple of years ago about this subject. He gave me a ball park figure of 10% off rack rate. That was for DC and then but it seemed about right. At the time, he said they could only rent out the points given up about 75% of the time. I doubth that was true before last Sept and hope it's not true for the future.

I guess to me, I wonder if they're not trying to do away with the option. Raise it enought that no one uses it then say since no one's using it, lets cancel that option. It's a shame because it's a program with so much potential.

I think it was PamOKW who has pointed out in the past that the renting of points by members could have an impact on the DC...

Disney ends up competing with us DVC members as we rent out points. If a DVC member uses the Collection for a stay at the Poly that CRO might rent out $2400, then they have to hope to get enough points to cover a stay at a DVC villa that they can rent out to the public which will generate AT LEAST that much or more really since they need to make some profit to justify the hassles and risk that they won't be able to...meanwhile the shopping public looking for a DVC villa rental could pay CRO the rack rate or even a discounted rack rate or they can rent points from a member usually at a considerable savings...I am sure the rentals here are a small amount of the total use going on but the market is affected and this has to drive down the PROFITABILITY and USABILITY of those points to CRO. So if you rent your points for $10/point you are probably contributing in a way to the increase in points needed for DC stays.
