As anyone who has tried to book a 2002 Disney Cruise with DVC points knows, Member Services has been unable to quote the point requirements for 2002. They would let you book a cruise with points -- but they couldn't tell you how many points they would deduct, so you were essentially giving Disney a blank check. Or you could wait till the chart was released, but in the meantime, desirable cabin locations or entire categories could be booked up.

Yesterday, the 2002 chart was finally released to Member Services.

I asked about category 6. For Regular Season, the old 2001 chart showed 203 points for adults and 78 points for children (ages 3-17). The new 2002 chart requires 211 points for adults and 78 points for children (ages 3-12). So there's a double increase: Adult point requirements have gone up, and the definition of a child has changed. I didn't check any other seasons or categories.

Yes, I booked a cruise -- our first Disney Cruise. And I'm happy that my older daughter will not turn 13 until a couple of months after the cruise, so she's still a child on the 2002 chart.

Congratulations on booking your 1st cruise. We have been DVC members since 1993 and have been on 2 cruises, once on the Magic and the other on the Wonder. As you will see, these ships are amazing and I guarantee that you will have the time of your life on the cruise. By the way, the category 6 rooms are terrific and the verandah makes the trip even more special. Having coffee and juice in the morning while just watching the water or sitting out at night and looking up at the stars is beyond description. Great choice and enjoy your cruise.

I emailed MS yesterday asking when the 2002 Cruise Points schedule would be available and much to my surprise they had it. The only down side is that they would not fax it to me. They said that I would have to call for a quote.
I do not plan on sailing until Nov 2002, so I will have to wait a while to book my trip.

Ellen,
We just booked a 7 day cruise on the Disney Magic sailing on Nov 2, 2002. There are 3 other Disney Cruise Board participants booked for that date already so come on and take the plunge, you will love the ship
and the vacation.

Howardk613,
We have already been on the 4 day Wonder cruise and loved it. We wanted to take the 11/2/2001 cruise also but believe it or not someone else in my department has that week booked so I will have to go the week before or the week after.
I am assuming that you didnt use points for the cruise.
I checked today and it will be over 350 points for a catagory 7, so we may end up paying cash.

My wife, son, and I are crusing on the Magic this fall using points. For a Cat 5 room it would have cost us over 400 points, but we are getting it for 300 points.

If you are going to cruise in the fall, be patient and wait for the fall fantasy rates to come out 3-6 months before the fall. They were out in April for fall 2001.
