200 points at 1 resort or 100 at 2 resorts (200)

So I got to thinking last night. I have been looking at 200 points with SSR (resale). Should I maybe think about 100 with SSR and 100 with AKL? If I had the 100 ALK then do I get to schedule all my points (200) with AKL or just the 100 I have there in the 11 month window. (does that make since?)

You can never mix points from different resorts until the 7 month window. If you own 100 SSR and 100 AKv, then each would be available for their own resort at 11 months.

There are some who own two resorts and what they do is use banking/borrowing so that they can use 200 at each resort every other year at the 11 month window.

For example, you bank your 2012 SSR points and borrow your 2013 AKV, points. That would give you 200 AKV to use in 2012 and then 200 SSR points for 2013.

I own BLT and BWV points now. I did this so that I could book my typical summer trip, which we do a split stay, at the 11 month window at the resorts I wanted. Now, I can book my 2 or 3 nights at BWV, and then the other 3 nights at BLT.

If you have 200 points but just 100 of them at AKL, then you can only book at 11 months with the 100 points. The reason to get two smaller contracts is incase you want to sale your contract in the future or to have 11 month access in two resorts. You could bank points for AKL and then have 200 points the next year (100 banked plus current ponts). Then stay at Saratoga the next year by bankng the saratoga points.

Having points at different resorts only makes sense if you want to alternate vacations between those 2 resorts. Otherwise, from a bookkeeping standpoint it is easier if your contracts are are for a single resort (and in a single UY).

There are definitely situations where splitting where you own would be beneficial, but it doesn't sound like you're in one of those situations. I would find 2 100 pt contracts for one resort rather than one 200 pt contract just because it gives you more flexibility.

We own 3 contracts at BWV: 200pts, 100pts, and 50pts.

100 point contracts tend to go for higher rate (per point) than 200 point contracts. So, you would end up spending more for the 2 100 point contracts than just buying 1 200 pointer. If that doesn't bother you (and frankly I don't think it would be THAT much more) then 2 home resorts would be nice. Just make sure they are both the same use year.

I have 200 points at OKW and am in the process of adding 75 points at HHI. I now wish I had 3 100 point contracts...at HHI and 1 or 2 of the B resorts (BWV, BCV, BLT). I have 3 kids and will be handing over the points to them someday...so 3 100 pointers would be nice.

And not sure if others mentioned this (I haven't read through the thread), but it is nice to have a few smaller contracts in case you find...down the road...that you don't need so many points. You can sell off 1 small contract(plus smaller contracts are easier to sell). We wanted to break our OKW contract in half and sell 100 points of it and we found out that we can't. My inlaws paid us for use of 100 points a year and in a few years they plan to give it back to us (better deal than selling them outright).

We bought 100 because we wanted to pay cash. The contract had banked points, so we will look at buying additional points next year - maybe a different resort and switch every other year, or maybe add on where we are.

You can also go in 3 year cycles with 2 100 point contracts. 300 points will buy you 6 nights in a 2BR Villa at most resorts, some even 7 nights. and then cycle between 2 home resorts and perhaps an off year from disney.

I would think 2 100 pointers is the way to go if the price is right, you get the use year you want, etc, etc.

Two small contracts works well for planning split stays 11 months in advance or for doing alternate years at each resort, as noted previously. If both resorts have the same UY, it is easier to keep track of banking deadlines.

Since you are looking at two small contracts, think about your resort choices carefully. We own at AKV, and totally love it. Owning AKV gets you the 11 month window for value rooms and concierge. You can generally get the other room types most times of the year at the 7 month mark. Since you are looking at two 100 point contracts, it would only cost you $200-300 more to get a 100 point BLT contract and have the 11 month advantage for BLT-MK view or standard view. With the ages of your kids, being able to walk to MK would be great :cool1:. They can also watch the monorails from the balcony and see the castle during most of the trip :woohoo:!

Don't get me wrong, AKV is awesome, and we almost always stay there. But, if you think you would want to have a MK view some time or have the advantage of walking to MK (or walking back after Wishes!), $200-300 is a small price to pay now. Keep in mind, of course, that the point requirements for the same room at BLT are higher than AKV, so 100 points is not going to get you as much. You may need 125 or 150, which takes the cost up a bit more.

Good luck with your decision!!:thumbsup2
