I was just talking to a very good friend of mine and she nearly passed out when I told her that we are eating at CRT and the cost for 4 of us will be a little over $200. She just got back from Bush Gardens and was complaining about spending $30 for the three of them. She said I must be nuts!! We are alike in almost all aspects of life....except Disney (obviously). My DH and I have always had the "it's vacation" attitude and do pretty much what we want on vacation within reason. I like a good deal as much as the next person, but I'm not skimping when it comes to a Disney vacation. We don't do the dining plan because we already have tickets. Does anyone else have friends like this?

yes! I always get the, why do you want to go back, you've already been there attitude. SO WHAT! or the you could spend your money on other things lecture. Well, guess what, it's just that MY money, not yours! I will spend it on what I want, not what you want me to:thumbsup2

I don't tell other people where to go or what to spend their money on, don't tell me what to do with my time and money

yes! Mostly from people who have never even been. Maybe that explains it!

Don't care what people think. When I'm in Disney I like to do whatever I want. Naturally with in reason. And that's within reason. I'll skimp when I am home not there :). lol Enjoy & have fun.

Sometimes it's better to just not tell friends and family what you're planning for vacation. "Oh, we're going to Florida to visit Grandma and Grandpa....and we may stop at Disney too". Yeah, right....the visit to see Grandparents is an excuse to get to Florida, lol.

I'm just wondering what she ate for $30 at Bush Gardens :lmao: Must have been 3 orders of churros and a couple of sodas ;)
We used to have season passes at BG and while they don't have some of the "signature" restaurants the Disney has, they aren't cheap.

Disney's sit down restaurant prices don't :scared1: me that much ;) . Then again, we eat out a lot at home, so I'm used to how much dinner costs. Now the CS prices  we spent $45 for 4 of us at Columbia Harbor House, it was good, but not that good

:thumbsup2 I agree with Disney 2008. It's better not tell your friends. If they not disney nuts they don't get it!

My MIL was exclaiming over how people go to a local restaurant and order something that is $32! No matter the amounts she and FIL spend on antique and toy tractors. Of course I guess they have something to show for it, where for a meal you don't. All in your priorities!

We used think ~all cheap all the time~, but DH's and my bosses have introduced us to the world of finer dining. My boss can easily drop $1000-$1200 on a meal for a small group of employees or clients. That's mostly due to the wine!

Oh, and we are doing CRT in November. It's part of the cost of vacation. I try not to think about it.

I think Disney's prices are quite reasonable. For example, we were at Sea World San Antonio a couple of weeks ago. A kid's meal at CS was 7.49 vs. 4.49 at Disney. A large soft drink was 3.09 vs. 2.29 at Disney. A dry single patty bacon cheeseburger with fries (no topping bar) was 7.99 vs. 7.59 for a double bacon cheeseburger with fries at Cosmic Rays. Bottled sodas were 3.00 vs. 2.00 or 2.50 (can't remember) at Disney.

Also, DH, DD and my dad recently went to an Astro's (MLB) game. Plain cheese nachos were 8.00 vs. 7.95 for nachos with the works (meat, beans, sour cream, ect) at Cantina de San Angel. A bottled sprite at the game was 4.00.

So, people complain about Disney prices but I don't think they are as bad as people say. Sure, they are higher than McDonald's or Wendy's but not as much as Sea World or major sporting events.

::yes:: My mom was this way until we took her. She had heard from coworkers how expensive everything was and had never shown an interest in going with us. However, after we took her in 2006 and she saw how much you actually get for your money, she was very impressed. She's all excited about our trip next year now! :yay:

I have to agree with you there! After working at Disney for a few months I was shocked to see the food prices at Six Flags when I returned home. I'm not saying Disney is cheap, but Six Flag's prices sure made it seem that way!

I remember when I went to Disney four years ago, the giant water bottles (not 20oz, the big ones) were $2.00. I went to Six Flags Great Adventure that summer and the 20oz bottles of water were $3.50. :scared:

We got the "why are you going to Disney, you're 22 and your brother is 16, aren't you too old?" interrogation when we finally told family that we're going in September. (They were trying to get us to go with them on a cruise instead.. BORING! Why would I go on a cruise when I could go to Disney?!) :rotfl:

We live in VA and go to Busch Gardens all of the time. It is $25 to get me a cheeseruger/ fries, DD Pizza, and DS Chicken strips/fries and drinks using our refillable mugs. This includes our 10% pass discount.

Having said that, it in no way compares to any of the sit down dinners in Disney.

well I do not worry about cost so much when we go to wdw But I will NEVER spend 200.00 for dinner at the castle...but that is just me, I do not have a issue with others doing it, I just dont like the that dinner very much I go to 1900 park fare to see cindy....but I do not think someone should have anything to say about what you choose to do there, its your trip!

I live in Williamsburg and have Season Passes and I think $30 for 3 is pretty darn good!!! I get a discount on my food and we never get out of there for under $30 when we go for dinner.

Personally, I wouldn't spend $200 just to have dinner at the castle.... it's not because of the price but quite honestly the food is marginal at best and although the location is unique.... still not worth $200 for a family of 4 (nor is it worth 2 DDP points) but regardless... ppl can spend there money any way they want to.

I am going to Disney this year despite the fact that I have seriously dwindled my savings, some might say that is irresponsible, I personally have lost too many ppl in my short life and therefore I am aware that life is too short to spend it worrying.. i am an RN I will probably never want for a job and therefore I will spend my money as I want to.

Frankly, I don't understand older ppl with alot of money.... you can't take it with you! and as far as "leaving" it for someone else... well thats what my insurance policys are for :thumbsup2

Well, even if they are Disney nuts, sometimes they still don't get it..........my brother LOVES Disney as much as anyone, but he refuses to splurge for the meals.............now, ME..........I have the same attitude as the OP.........We do what we want on vacation, splurge, enjoy ourselves.........mabye even go above and beyond reason...........but, it is our vacation and our money and we will do with it what we want!!

I agree with you 100% . You are so DISNEY RIGHT! :thumbsup2

Not so much anymore. I used to get this the most from my own parents. They should've known better considering when we got married 11 yrs ago we had a Mickey & Minnie themed reception.

But they've changed their tune. My dad went with us almost 2 yrs ago while he was living and working in FL. He loved Epcot. He also went to the MK with us but far preferred Epcot. My mom can't wait to go and see what it's like for herself. She's never been and wants to go badly. Maybe that stems from the fact she's got a grandson now and loves to spoil him rotten. We're planning on taking her with us next year. Maybe even my dad too. I'd love to take a trip with them.
