20% off BECAUSE of DVD

Just ordering the DVD doesn't mean you will get it. It is part of a marketing campaign so some get it and some don't. (We would be in the latter! :lmao: ) I am still optimistic that the public codes for later in the year will be great (just like last year...)

I ordered a DVD back in late October (it was still the 2007 edition that was sent), and got a 20% PIN code via e-mail a couple of days after making the order - the offer expired on December 31, 2007.

Hearing that ordering a DVD can trigger a code, I called to say that while we recently got a DVD, I was hoping that we might get the 2008 edition. Again, two days later, we got a PIN code via e-mail, again for 20% - interestingly, the code was identical to the one we got previously.

The truly goofy thing, however, is that somehow they still have an e-mail account that I used to initially register on Disney.com when we got back from our vacation in 2006. I have TRIED to update this (both online and over the phone) many times. BOTH times I ordered the DVD over the phone, confirming the e-mail address I wanted to have on record. BOTH times the code has been sent to that original address I gave them in 2006.

Anyway, the system still baffles me.

While I'm happy to get the 20%, we are CAA members, and stay at values during value season, meaning we normally get the 20% discount anyway. I had hoped that Disney would realize this and send us either the 30% or 40% code as an extra incentive, but no luck. When I have spoken with them on the phone, I thank them profusely for the codes, letting them know that I realize many people never get one, but I do let them know that the 20% codes aren't any better for us than what we get normally with our CAA membership.

Although, the one CM I spoke with recently said that I could try holding off booking the vacation, as (and she admitted this is a guess on her part, she can't fathom Marketing either) perhaps the system will see a DVD being ordered, and a code offer with no vacation being booked. She said it is worth a shot to see if they send out a better discount towards the end of my current code's expiry date to try to coax us into booking.

I don't know if that has ever worked for anyone, but we're willing to try.

We received the code in the mail because we requested a DVD, but we could not apply the code to our stay at the Polynesian in June. The reservationist said that the code only applied to the value resorts in June. It did not apply to the Deluxe or Moderate resorts in June. We did get a AAA rate, but we are still paying a lot per night. I am hoping that other codes come out in the next few months that we can apply to our stay at the Polynesian. This trip is really getting expensive.

Is the 2008 DVD very different from the previous DVD? I ordered one a few weeks ago and still have not received it....although I did get the same email that you got about the 20% discount.

Okay today, about 2 weeks after getting my DVD and 1 week after getting my 20% code, today I received another 20% off code. It's odd, both came in my name (with different numbers on them to tell for the code) and both are for the same days and percent off.

I wonder why I've received two and neither of them are for 40% (what I could really use). I'm still holding out hope that I could receive a 40% code or someone else in my family might receive one. I wonder if I call if I might be able to get something better than 20% or if I could combine my two different 20% codes (that'd be a dream come true).

Anyway, I am glad that I'm receiving codes even if right now I can't use them.
