I know it's fun to rant and rave about Disney doing this and that but I think that's a bit too much do you really need to raise that? Yor park prices are high, your food is through the roof and now this?

I saw another thread mentioning it's too much overall but for some reason this ticked me...

Oh well I guess I gotta accept the fact that things will just continuously go up..

Parking has been $20+ at the local Six Flags for 5 years now. Their (the same Six Flags) 1 day park ticket is $90 and has been that for 3 years. Meals there are about $15 a person for quick service and have been that for a while. Disney's prices aren't outrageous, when compared to other theme parks. It's outrageous in general, but it's not just Disney doing it, unfortunately.

I was just going to post this. The parking is atrocious at our local Six Flags, which I refuse to ever enter again, (still mourning my beloved Riverside park) there are no trams. You get to walk forever in order to gain entrance, have your bags searched to the point that a cracker hidden in a lining is discovered and tossed, wait forever to get inside, and then you are assaulted by every game of chance imaginable. If you last until the parade, be pepared to be underwhelmed.Even my Parade loving granddaughter was disappointed by the straggling 5 minute procession.

Yes, theme parks in general are expensive, so if am paying those prices I want to leave thinking I got my money's worth.

We just paid $17 to park at Busch Gardens in Tampa. I told my husband it would have been cheaper at Disney. I guess not anymore!

Does anyone know if there is a drop off area if someone brings you to the park, that they don't have to pay to get in?

I get that it's expensive for multi-day use, which is what a lot of guests are doing.

But have you ever parked in NYC? ($20 for the day is great!) At a concert? At another theme park? At a sporting event? They are not out of line with those costs.

And they offer an alternative - you can stay on site or get an AP and park for free.

Drop-off and pick-up is free.

All parks have drop-off areas near the gates
EXCEPT that the MK drop-off is at TTC.

A closer spot to the MK gates would be to drop-off at the Contemporary/BLT and walk to MK.

Well try parking at a NFL game if you think 20 bucks is too much

Heck even little old mount olympus theme and water park in wisconsin dells charges 20 bucks to park and after you park they block off the ends with cones making it a pain to get out unless you move the cones but the look on the workers is priceless when you run the cones over after they still put them down when they saw you coming

I agree. I understand 20 dollars may be the norm foe parks and other events.

What I think is ridiculous is a 3 dollar increase over night. Seriosuly, they aren't even trying to hide the outright money grab.

So is it gonna be a 3 dollar increase or more per yr now? I have a feeling disney springs will suddenly have a parking fee as well....prob when construction is finally done.

I was going to say the same thing. At our Six Flags, the food is more expensive than at Walt Disney World. I was quite surprised to see that I was going to be paying more for a burger and fries here than at Cosmic Ray's or Restaurantosaurus. And, I might add that while I wouldn't say Disney burgers are anything close to culinary masterpieces, they are still better than Six Flags. Parking at Six Flags also costs $20 and, as Nancy pointed out, it is terrible. You will walk and walk and walk with no tram. The parking lot was terribly designed so you are trying to figure out the best places to cross so as to not impede traffic, you don't have anyone directing you so you know where to park, it's just bad. A one day ticket to Six Flags will cost you less than a one day ticket to any of the WDW parks, but there is no discount for multiple days. In general, WDW is of course more expensive than Six Flags, but not when it comes to parking or food. And, not to sound like a person who always believes that WDW can do no wrong, WDW is significantly better than Six Flags. It has better upkeep of rides, friendlier and more knowledgeable workers, cleaner parks and restrooms, and you just feel safer there. I'm not going to complain about parking prices going up. Now annual pass costs at Disneyland is a whole other story...

If they do start charging to park at Disney Springs, I hope that they will then start providing transportation from there to the parks and back again. I get why they don't do that now, since they don't want people parking there for free and just riding to one of the parks. If they are going to charge for parking, though, then they can add buses that will take you directly to Disney Springs rather than making you go to a resort first and then transfer buses. That'd be pretty nice.

People who pay $20 to park at a local theme park probably aren't making multiple day visits. When we go to Disney we do 7-10 park days. We stay offsite because it's cheaper and more comfortable for our family of 6. Between the changes in fastpasses and raising parking prices, Disney is become less and less appealing to us.

I understand what you are saying. Yes, it is comparable to parking in other theme parks, cities, concerts, etc. But if you are traveling to WDW resort it is already so much more expensive than traveling to your local park for the day. I don't stay over night when I go to Six Flags or eat out on a meal plan or expensive themed sit down restaurants- or buy a special photo package or even any souvenirs. I don't need to fly to six flags. It all adds up and of course Disney is a company and doesn't care about giving us a break but- I totally know what you mean!

I thought from the beginning that one of the effects we would see from the customer facing portion of the MyMagic+ initiative was a larger discrepancy between being an onsite and offsite guest. They really want to offsite guests to feel like they are missing something that the onsite guests get as a way to upsell them for their next trip down. The parking increase one more way to make them feel it and gives the marketing team another selling point to use when pushing onsite packages.

I don't think you'll see a parking fee at Disney Springs but if the AP increase has a bigger effect then forcast they might implement a fee just so they can backdoor a benefit for the AP to get the numbers back up making parking free at Disney Springs for AP holders.

And an extra $30 for a ten day trip is more than made up for in the reduced cost for your hotel/condo stay, so is this really a big deal?

I get that people are going to WDW for multiple days but aren't necessarily going to their local theme park for multiple days. I get that people often stay on property at WDW, eat on property, etc. so they are going to be spending more money at Disney than at their local theme park. We need to remember, though, that Disney does have to pay for upkeep just like the local amusement parks. If your local Six Flags has 10,000 different visitors everyday, they are still causing the same wear and tear on the parking lot as the same $10,00 visitors would each day at WDW for a week-long stay. So, whether they are the same or different guests, the same upkeep is going to be necessary. They need to keep the parking lot resurfaced properly so there aren't giant potholes to drive through. They have to pay for maintenance and fuel/power for the trams, parking booths, lights, etc. at the parking lot. They have to pay for security, parking attendants, and other workers. Sure, you might stay at Contemporary, but what you are paying for Contemporary goes to the upkeep of that resort, the payment of those workers, and the utilities and such for that resort. If you look at parking at your local amusement park and compare it to parking at WDW, which is usually a better experience? I know for us, WDW parking is much preferred to parking at Six Flags. I'm willing to pay the same amount of money to park at WDW that I pay at Six Flags especially when I think about how much better the WDW process is.

Parking at the O2 Arena in London is £20, thats $30! And, that's for an evening event, not all day.

I've read in various places on the web, people complaining about the price of tickets, parking, drinks, food etc etc in Orlando. When I compare to a London price, you guys are getting yourselves a bargain. The cost of living in the States is so much lower, and on average you get paid more than the same jobs in the USA. The Gas Price in the US is also outrageously cheap compared to other countries.

It's all relative to what you are used to. I think in general, alot of people in the US have got it pretty good.
