20,000 leagues under the sea?

I just realized that one of my favorite rides as a kid isn't at MK anymore. When did it get shut down? What is its replacement? I'm so sad that DD5 won't get to experience this when we go in May.

You can go to Tokyo DisneySea. It's still there.

I was really sad they took this away since it's my favorite ride of all.

This ride was shut down some years ago and I believe the space was being used for a character meet and greet. I know there's still no attraction there, but don't know if there is still a meet/greet.

I know, I wanted my son to see this but no dice.

I am sad about this too. Pooh replaced this, right? Isn't it still open in DL though?

I haven't been to WDW since 1989 (senior spring break trip) so I'm sure it will look totally different! We used to go every other year as a kid and I want to start that tradition now that my kids are getting old enough (dd5 and twins that are almost 2).

20,000 leagues has been shut down for some years now. Some shots from the air have spotted the old subs rusting in a lot. One of the subs was placed underwater at Disney's private island so snorkelers could dive around it. We walked by the area a few weeks ago, and it had green fencing around the area. The maps show just green forest. I hope they find a good use for the area!

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but Mr. Toads Wild Ride is gone too! Very sad.

I remember when I first heard about that in 2000 I believe (maybe before), when they had the Easter Parade and the Bunny Hop (which I was apart of).. I was deeply depressed.. I got to ride it at DL but it just wasn't the same.. I want Mr. Toads Wild Ride back, even though it did break down every 5 minutes!!!!

A new attraction in the old 20,000 area.Think it is such waste just having it used as character meet and greet.I miss the Sky Buckets ride also,such a great view of the Magis Kingdom.

Whenever I think of 20,000 Leagues I remember what was probably our last ride on it. It was DH & me with no kids so it was 1989 or 1990.

After a few days in the parks you start to memorize the "speil" the CM's say before and after a ride. Well the CM on this ride was a bit more creative! Instead of the usual "please take small children by the hand...." he said
"please grab all small children firmly by the neck and drag them kicking and screaming up the gangway!" Everyone left chuckling!

After closing 20K, the lagoon remained empty for over 11 years. The loading area was used as a meet and greet until this year. The lagoon and show building was removed and basically turned into a visual landscape with trees and islands and streams. They are presently building a "playground" in the front part. Although it was sad to see the lagoon go, that and the show building was standing in the way of creating a new attraction on that spot. At least that hinderance is gone.

I believe the meet and greet area was called "Ariel's Grotto."

one of the cars from Mr Toad is still there - go to the expo hall, where you get your pictures, go through to the back, you will find it there for a photo op

gizfish is right. For a while it was called Ariel's Grotto and it had a statue of Ariel. Not sure if there was anything else to it (attraction wise)

Yes, it was my favorite ride! Was looking forward to DS enjoying it in'96 but the area was fenced off. At first they said for refurbishment--
Bringing it back would be exciting

For what it's worth (not much) the entire area has just recently been cleared out - the track / concrete / mosquito breeding pools have been permanently removed to make room for:

Right now, a pile of dirt. Plenty of rumors are out there, check the rumors board to search for details...

Heard recently that the area will be a playground. The theme will be the hundred acre wood. It will be accross from Pooh's ride.
