We used our Motorolla 2 way radios on our last trip and they worked great.
(Other than my husband losing his knob on the tower of terror!!)
Has anyone else used them and what they thought and how far they used them?
My parents have a set that we bought for them last Christmas. I'm thinking about
borrowing them for my kids (4,7) to put in their fanny packs that I plan to purchase.
Their going to be for emergencies of course. They know how to use them, etc.
Has anyone else done anything similar for their kids?

We bought an FRS radio for our seven year old on this last trip. We have the Motorolla TalkAbouts and we bought him a Uniden because it was cheaper. I wish I had just bought the Motorolla for him. The Uniden has this odd scan feature on it and ds kept setting it off by mistake so he would be on one channel and dh and I on another. We taught him how to use it and felt a lot more comfortable. My biggest fear is him being swept up in a crowd and away from us. We showed him exactly how to use it and what to do. He knew he was to call us on it while walking to a CM. I figured even if he got upset and forgot how to use it a CM would certainly know what to do with it. Make sure you get the type with the sub channels. We have heard from many people at Disney that the ones without the subchannels are basically useless since so many people are on those channels. Whats really funny about this is my son is NOT the wanderer of the family its DH!!! We even use these when we go shopping because dh is CONSTANTLY wandering away it it makes me nuts running all over the store looking for him....not to mention talking to total strangers because I think he is still behind me ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

We have the Motorola's and we think they are great.
We use them in the parks and also in the resorts. Our 12 year old son likes to go to the game rooms and bike riding in the resorts we give him one to keep in touch with us.

Yes get the ones with subchannels!!!!!!!!! We just got back last night used the radios on our trip. However, they were on the cheap side I guess.(SIL bought them, it was out of my hands:rolleyes: ) Whenever we needed them to find each other (5 adults) there was always too much chatter from other people. One day at MGM, it was about 100 degrees and my DS (2) was hot and cranky and I wanted to leave. However, I couldn't find my MIL and SIL to tell them and get my car keys from MIL. Every time I used the radio some small and ill mannered child was mimicing me. I finally get through to my MIL but it took about twenty minutes to find them sitting in a nice cool restaurant and eating lunch. I wanted to throw the stupid radio in the nearest lake...... Moral of the story, if you need them to keep track of wandering adults, get the more expensive radios.

Thank you for the tips!

I've got a wandering hubby too! Too funny!!

My kids are always using them when we're in the malls. I love to shop and my husband doesn't. He takes off. But, it's my kids that want to be with ME! So, they are constantly calling for Dad on the radios.

By the way, they do have the subchannels. We have a special channel and subchannel that we always use.

Now, I just have to teach my dh to keep the darn thing on. He has this thing of shutting his off when he doesn't want to be called!

Dizzy you know the other thing that makes me nuts that my dh does with the radio is to put it in such a place that if he moves a certain way or sits or bends down it hits the call button and mine goes off. He did this constantly in MGM the first time we used them. I got beeped constantly in line buying something etc... but my favorite was when it went off five times while I was in the ladies room!!!! I actually heard the girl in the next stall snicker ROFL. I have since instructed him NOT to hang it off his pocket or put it in his pocket but to put it on his belt line. We have rarely had that problem since. The only problem I have with him now is that he turns it WAY down so he doesn't hear my call. MEN ROFL

lvs_eeyore: Your post made me laugh! Now, If I could just find that button that fell off at the Tower Terror (dh at fault!). Those things don't happen in the gift shop! I think people like me are safer in the gift shops anyhow! CHARGE IT!!! Hehehe!
