2 rooms or Suite? Which is cheaper?

We've been to Disney 7 or so times just as a family of 4 sometimes just 2 of us..but wanting to go this fall and each of my kids bring a friend. That will make 6. What are the options for rooms when most of the rooms are for 4 people? We've stayed at all the values of course and one time at AKL. Are suites available at most hotels or can we book 2 rooms adjacent to each other? Not sure how to book for this many people. Thank you in advance.

The main problem I have encountered when booking a room for my family of 5 is that I have been told they cannot guarantee adjoining or adjacent rooms, but they will do their best to accommodate us. Because of that, we always opt for the suite.

If you want rooms that have the inside door between them, well, you can't book that. You can request Connecting Rooms, but it is only a request. If it wasn't met an adult would have to sleep in each room.

The cheapest suite option would be a family suite at the All Star Music.

Your homework might include looking into a 1-br DVC property.

AK & Bay Lake have two bath. All DVC 1-br (or larger) come with a kitchen.

I don't think any of the 1-BR have a room occupancy of 6. They have a king-size bed in the bedroom. They have a sleeper sofa in the living room. Some also have a sleep chair in the living room, but that only brings it up to 5.

FWIW - We did 2 connecting rooms at AKL once and they honored the request. They didn't act like it was a big deal. We actually had to move rooms due to noisy neighbors, and the rooms they moved us to were connecting as well (meaning "next to eachother").

Connecting rooms mean, as maxiesmom described above, rooms with an internal door allowing access to both rooms without using the main door.

Rooms that are "next to each other" without this internal door are adjoining rooms.

On our last trip, we got upgraded from a 1 bedroom villa to a 2 bedroom at VWL (we had a cash reservation). I have to admit...it was pretty awesome. We booked a bounceback for our big trip this year while we were on that trip, and my husband wanted me to go ahead and book another 2 bedroom and I told him he was nuts because the 2 bedrooms are so expensive. But recently I started remembering how awesome it was to have all that space, so I decided to go and look for availability. Sadly, or maybe luckily (?), there's no availability.

We are a family of six. As others have mentioned, two rooms with a connecting door are not 100% guaranteed. If you're looking for the least expensive option for six people with a guarantee you'll all be together, the family suites at some of the values are probably your best bet. We stayed in a family suite at AoA and it was nice. Having two bathrooms was a definite plus. The cabins at FW also sleep six. If you're willing to spend a little more, BWI, GF, and WL all have deluxe rooms that sleep six people (two queen beds, one queen sleeper sofa). With the cabins and deluxe rooms you'll only have one bathroom. We've priced out renting points for a villa every time we go and it always winds up being the most expensive option.

Looks like I will go ahead and just do 2 rooms, I didn't think about how the kids will each have a friend ( one boy, one girl) and maybe better to do boys in one room girls in another. Plus my husband really needs to be in a different room than me because of all his snoring...really. year after year we've said next time we'll get 2 rooms.
Not sure what board I am on, thought I did a search on the Disney resort board but I guess I am on a different board Sorry for that...haven't been on this site for years.

You answered my question about the kids' genders. I think a boys room and girls room is a good idea. That way if the friends are not comfortable sharing a room with the opposite gender kids or parents for that matter. Sounds like a winner!

Off site is also an option if price matters. We got a whole house for less than moderate per day. Had to rent a car, but to me it was worth having the extra space. Wyndham Bonnet Creek is pretty much right on property too and was great as well. Personally, I don't think I would ever stay on site again. But with EMH and the extra time to make FP, I guess I can see why people wont make that decision.
