Okay so I have done the math, and this is my question. Is it possible to book a value resort for free dinning and keep my POLY res.?

We got a terrific rate at the POLY ($1265) for 7 nts. What I am wondering is if we can also book a value resort for 7 nts, to get the free dinning?

Is it possible to be on two reservations? If I book the POLY with free dinning I coming up with a rate of about $3550. With a value it is only $1550, therefore a savings of about $700. Can I do this?:confused3

Or.......should I just book a moderate and save even more? Please let me know what you would do? We have stayed a POR and I would like to try CBR. It is all worth it when you get there, but this planning for disney can really make your head hurt.

So you would have two rooms each night? I think you would only save a few dollars a night, maybe you can't purchase the meal plan at the poly? Sounds like too much trouble to me. Unless appetizers and deserts are something you will purchase anyway?

Stay at the poly and pay for your food who knows when you will be able to get a rate that good again.

Do you mean have a reservation to sleep at the Poly and a reservation you don't use (except for dining plan) at the value? Even if it is possible, which I find highly unlikely, you might want to rethink that.

The dining plan can be nice. And free dining is great. However, your plan seems to assume that you have to have the dining plan. The numbers you mention also assume that you'll spend more than $1550 in out-of-pocket expenses for food without the dining plan for that savings to materialize. That means you'd have to spend more than $220 for food each day (or $55 per person per day in food including $55 each for two small kids if I'm reading your signature correctly). It seems like it would be easy to spend less per day, even if you stick to the table service, counter service, snack format of the dining plan. And, if you don't stick to the plan exactly (i.e. add some extra ts meals) or visit expensive, signature restaurants that require two credits on the DDP (and that would likely mean you'd be paying for some other small meals out of pocket), you'd pay more on top of the extra reservation.

Call me crazy, but I just can't imagine how this would save money. So, yeah, the price of the value room with dining plan is less than adding it to the Poly reservation, but I don't know why you'd add it in the first place. You'd pay a lot more for "free dining" than you'd likely pay to dine if you just paid out of pocket. I must be missing something...

I don't see how this saves you any money.

For that matter -- why not just add the DDP to your package at the Poly? (2 adults and 2 kids.. about 100$ a day = 700$ total)

Alright, clearly I have confused a few people. First, we cannot add the DP to the POLY res. because the rate was so good.

Second, this is how I figured the money thing. $1265 for room at POLY, approx. $720 for tickets, and then about $800 or so out of pocket for food.

I believe that the total for either doing food out of pocket, or for booking a value resort and with tickets and free dinning, as well as keeping our current res. would be about the same.

without dinning $2785 and with two resorts $2765 does this make sense?

Anyway, I think we solved the problem my parents are going at the same time, so we are going to pay them the extra $25 a night for an extra adult in their room, and add my DH and the kids to their ressie. This way everyone but myself will be on the dinning plan.

Sorry to confuse everyone, thanks for your input.

I'm still confused. Have you tried adding the (paid) Dining Plan to your existing Poly reservation? I understand that you don't qualify for the free promotion, but...?

As for your alternate plan - first, if your parents will be staying at a Value resort, the maximum number of Guests in a room is four. Good news, the additional adult fee is only $10. Bad news, if you will not be on the Disney Dining Plan, the participants cannot use their credits for your food; you'll need to pay out of pocket for what you eat.

Unfortunately you can't even pay for the DP, as it is already 40% disney dinning prices. It will save us quite a bit to put my DH and DD on my parents ressie.

You can't put five in a value resort room unless you get the family suite. Your three yr old counts towards room occupancy. So you have three adults and two kids. That makes five. One too many.

why can't you just pay for the DDP? i understand that you have the 40% off room rate, but that doesn't mean you can't pay for DDP. i am not confused, but i am definitely getting a headache trying to figure out why you would pay for two rooms to get free dining on one of them when you can just pay for DDP on your existing reservation.

Don't forget, you'd also need to buy one day base tickets for your dh and child who will be getting the free dining (even if you already have tickets through the Poly reservation).

Personally...I'd just stick with the awesome room rate you got at POLY and not even mess with the free dining. I've read several threads where people are hearing from CM's that everyone on free dining reservation must be present at check in. So your Dh and child on the free dining will have to go to whatever resort your parents are at when they check in. Plus with the extra adult fee ($10/day for value, more for mods and deluxes) and having to buy two one-day base tickets for dh and child....I just don't think it'd be worth it...just to save $51 bucks a day (price of dh and one child on dining plan).

Plus...if your dh and one child are on your parents reservation...it could get tricky to keep track of all the dining credits...unless you're planning on eating every meal with your parents.

WAY too much hassle to save $51/day, IMHO.

Nevermind, didn't mean to frustrate anyone. I have it all worked out now, thanks.
