when going through my photo shop e5 catalog i found i have a few places where the photos are duplicated,( like the whole set of a folder is doubled) i am assuming i can delete one and not have it do anything to the other. just checking that cause they have the same number i won't delete both if i delete one.

also since i downloaded the raw viewer, i haven't been using my photoshop organizer at all and would like to get rid of it to free up badly needed space( i have about 6000 photos in it) any reason i shouldn't do that? isn't it just basically a duplicate of the thumbnails i have in my window picture folders? i wouldn't delete the organizer just the photos or i could just turn it off from opening but that wouldn't give me more space. i don't use it to backup either, I just burn from nero the files i select.

thanks

i'm bumping this before it goes to page 2....someone has to be smarter than me:rotfl2:

Well, I'm not sure exactly, but since no one else is stepping up to the plate, I'll give it a shot . . . .

Wrt the first question, are you sure they're actually duplicates? Sometimes when I've moved or renamed files and then re-imported them into the catalog that little broken file icon indicating that it can't find the image in the original location doesn't show up unless I try to open the file. It's a pain in the rear too, because then I have to be careful not to delete the wrong one (I know, I should just delete them from the catalog before I move the files, or stop moving them around in the first place). Anyway, I'd just double check to be sure they are in fact duplicates and, if so, I can't see how it would hurt to delete them. It does seem strange though; whenever I try to import something that is already in the catalog, it tells me so.

As for your second question, I too am trying to figure out what to do w/ the PSE catalog, in my case because I'm using Lightroom now. Although I've had Lightroom for about 6 months, I still haven't had an opportunity to explore all the purportedly earth-shattering organizational tools it has to offer. So now my photos are more unorganized than ever. Again, I don't see how it could hurt to delete the catalog (I did it once to start fresh, and with no ill effects). Just be sure you don't inadvertently check the box that says to delete the image files too! You should be able to change the settings in PSE so that it doesn't add images to the catalog when you edit them.

yeah, i have been not having them go to the organizer but i realized i have thousands of photos in 3 places, and 3 different catalogs with all the same things:rotfl2: don't ask me how, i think it might have been when i was having so much trouble when i first got e5 and it kept crashing, it would say it wasn't saving the edited file but maybe it really was......no wonder i have no room:lmao: i had the trial of lightroom and they must have been in there as well  since that was taking up a few gbs ( unless the software is that huge). i'll try deleting some of husband's samples' photos since i want to redo those anyway and i have about 6 disks of them backed up ( he is paranoid i'm going to delete them all so now his nightmare will come true:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: )
