2 Quick questions: OLCI & Liquids thru security

I didn't want to start two silly threads, so hopefully it's okay to put both questions on the same one.

First, resort online check in:

I really want to try this. I doubt it will make much difference given that we won't arrive at the resort much before 7.30 or 8 pm but it would be nice to give it a go just to see how it goes. The only thing making me hesitate is that I really DON'T want to be on the ground floor and although you can choose ground floor, there is no option to request not to be on the ground floor. I also have a building request noted on my reservation and wonder whether that will be void if I do OLCI :confused3 At the end of the day I don't think it's a big deal. POFQ is small enough that we won't have a ridiculous distance to walk to anything and I could always ask them to change it if I don't like where they put us, but that is just more hassle if it can be avoided.

Next question: Security at the airport - liquid restrictions

Now I know about the 100ml story, but I have never taken any liquids on board with me as I don't have to. However I now have a cold and if it comes to that and I need to take some cough syrup for me or calpol sachets for DD on board I am not going to be silly about it. But does each item need to be in a separate bag or do you just use one bag for both/all? Are there special bags you need to get or can you just use any ziploc bag that complies with the measurement guidelines?

Thanks to all. I know you will be able to help me out on this. :goodvibes

I can't help with resort OlCI, but can help with the liquids going through security. You can use any resealable see through plastic bag that is roughly 20cmX20cm (most supermarkets sell ziplock food bags in roughly this size). You can only take one bag per person but you can fill it with as much as you can get in it without it being in danger of splitting.

This leaflet from the Australian Government is very easy to follow (all the rules are the same as the ones from UK and US airports) :-

Thanks Suzybear, that does help. I suppose I could just get a bottle of cough syrup or whatever at Boots once past security, but it is just so muc easier sometimes to take what I know is suitable. Sometimes the choices airside are limited. Of course I do intend feeling absolutely fantastic by the weekend and shouldn't even be thinking about cold and flu meds. ;)

OLCI does not void any room requests you've made manually on your reservation - I got exactly the location I requested at SSR when we checked in today. That said I didn't make any further requests (the near bus stop options etc) just in case it overwrote it. The OLCI in and of itself doesn't cause any problems though.

It's very quick, I think I was all of 2 minutes checking in today, if that. You are basically just going through some pleasantry's with the CM while she confirms your reservation on the screen and then grabs your ready made folder from behind the counter.

ps. get well soon!

Just wanted to add that make sure your bottle of cough syrup is less than 100mls to start with and not just less once you have opened it.

We have taken calpol for DD in sachets everytime we fly with her - just incase! They always go in our clear bag with our contact lens and my roll on perfum (which I never use on the plane so I am not really sure why I keep taking it as hand luggage  )

Hope you are feeling better soon :goodvibes

Thanks. I don't have any further requests. I am hoping that if I don't ask for ground floor that they won't put me there as there are few ground floor rooms than upper levels so logically  I would hope that they would keep the lower levels for those who need them.

Yes, thanks, that occurred to me last night so I will have a quick check at Boots today and see what they have. Otherwise will just buy after security.

Hope you feel much better before you fly :wizard:

Thank you. Feeling much happier today. Could I feel a bit all over the place though. Could this be my bounce coming back? :tigger::tigger::tigger:

Yup I agree! I had called to add a request to our reservation in May (same as yours, high floor) and did online check-in as well. We got a high floor in a great location and as above spent all of 2 minutes at check-in. It pretty much involved me saying my name and them giving me my pack!

I didn't put the higher floor on my reservation. Only the building request. Is it worth calling the resort at this stage? I know I can always ask them to change it at check in if OLCI allocates me a ground floor room, but that sort of defeats the purpose of OLCI for convenience.

hi 2tiggies , Have you been able to access the resort online check in as I am trying to do it and can't access it at all ?

Oh, is it still down? Tech support said they had been experiencing problems with it for a few days (thread on the resorts board), but it seems like some people have managed to get through the system. It lets me do it, although I have not submitted it as I am still undecided. You can't do it under My Disney Vacation on the Disney site though. You have to go through www.mydisneyreservation.com and select the option "Through a group or convention". It is letting me do that, so I assume it will go through as those complaining are not even getting the option to retrieve their ressie.

I think at this stage your reservation has already been 'released' direct to the resort now (believe I heard that happens 3-5 days before checkin) so I'm not sure if the request would make it to the resort anyhow...just guessing though, never tried it myself.

Personally I'd just hang tight and see what you get, like you say, I think there's naturally more chance of you getting a higher floor than a ground floor anyhow and even if you do end up requesting a change it's still quicker using the OLCI because you'll have given all your CC info for room charge, car permit if you need it will be pre-printed etc etc so it's still the best option imo.

Fingers crossed for you :)

Thanks. I think you raised some good points there. I will just do the OLCI. No card charging for me so one less thing to worry about (I just prefer not to charge to my room :upsidedow). Will let you know how it goes. :)

I agree. I felt that Ground Floor would probably be more sought after by disabled guests and those with young children etc. so I think you've probably got a good chance of having a high floor anyway!

Good Luck! You must be buzzing! :goodvibes

Ha, don't know about buzzing. Spent the afternoon trying very hard not to YELL at the person from the card services department re. the payment I made in my branch to clear the entire balance of my credit card nearly 3 weeks ago. Money left my account instantly but has never been credited to the card. I was furious because I spent an hour and a half in the branch last week while they assured me that this was now dealt with. I explained that I had done this to free up my credit for while I am in the US and also because I am not here on Monday when the payment is due. I have now told them that they have until 9 am tomorrow to have this sorted with written confirmation or I am taking it to the press as well as 'other authorities' :rolleyes1 Hope they take me seriously as I have drafted the letters. So yes, buzzing, but of a different kind :rotfl::rotfl: About the trip .... well oddly enough, it still doesn't feel real. I must be honest I am feeling a bit strange at the moment. I hope this surprise is really good. I won't do it again though. No countdown, no talking to anyone about it, no suitcases out in plain view .... I think that has a lot to do with me feeling like I am now. I will be different tomorrow. Going to have a shower now and will post happy thoughts when I am out. :)

Thank you so much to all of you for your help, support and advice. I really, really appreciate it all. Honest.
