First question is how bad does the weather have to get before they will close the theme parks. We are going to Epcot this Sunday and the weather does not look good. I dont care if it rains we have our ponchos ready! :umbrella: Also has anyone rode the space shuttle ride.. How was it? Thanks in advance!!

I think the only time the theme parks have closed in the past have been during a hurricane. Not just a warning, but when they hurricane actually passed over Orlando.

The weather has to be really bad like huricane's before they will close the parks. I rode Mission Space last year with my 5 year old niece. If you do not mind enclosed spaces you will be fine. I felt a little light headed after the ride they tell you to look forward at all times but it was tough with a child.

My DH and I were so disappointed in MS - it just didn't live up to the hype for us -

by my FIL got really sick - so it depends on how you handle motion and enclosed spaces

I did think the lift off was pretty cool but the rest was pretty cheesy

It literally takes a hurricane to close the parks. They won't close for simple rain or even thunderstorms. Certain outdoor areas might be closed if there are high winds or hail or something like that, but it's highly unlikely that whatever weather happens this weekend would be bad enough to close the parks.

As for the "space shuttle ride," I'm assuming you're talking about Mission : Space. It's a centrifuge type of spinning ride that some people love and others dislike very much! If you suffer from motion sickness, vertigo, or things like that, you'll want to stay off of it.

We were there for Hurricane Charley...they closed the parks the afternoon of the day the storm was predicted to hit. Then the parks reopened on time the next day. AK opened late due to much more tree damage.

The parks remain open during rainstorms/thunderstorms tho. I have to say that our trip in August '03 did away with my dd's fear of thunder!! They will close down the outside attractions if there is any threat whatsoever of lightening. but all the inside stuff is open.

M:S is pretty cool. Very enclosed, small area tho. The take-off is pretty intense...you are really forced back into the seat...a terrific face-lift tho!!!
