Hi I have 2 questions here. we have never been to univerisial and first can you tell me is there a weight restriction on harry potter rides and second we will be there in early June what are the chances of the new part being opne

thanks for your help

Weight limit no, size yes. There are "test seats" you can test drive to see if you fit, lots of threads on this board if you do a search.

New part open? Doubt it, we go end of June and don't expect the new stuff to be open. One can hope though :).

Not a weight restriction, but a size restriction.

Forbidden Journey and Dragon Challenge are rather limiting as to what size of body can go on them. Forbidden Journey modified the two outside seats (on a bench of 4 seats) on each ride vehicle so that the restraint allows a bigger person on it. But that still has limits.

There are test seats outside both of those rides, and many people use them. If you are uncomfortable, just play it off as though you're taking silly pictures. It's better to find out outside rather than inside, when the walkway is moving and you have to work it out and maybe have to get off the ride quickly. Then you can come to terms with it, if you don't get to ride, and enjoy the walkthrough of the line. All Universal lines can be walked through by anyone, so you can enjoy your time inside the castle or inside the grounds of wherever Dragon Challenge is supposed to be, and then exit right near the end instead of riding.

To give an example, my husband is 5'10" and built like a sumo. He has muscle everywhere and has weight distributed everywhere. He's about 340 still (trying so hard to lose, but has a pituitary tumor that makes it hard) He has a particularly broad and deep chest. He can barely even scoot back in the FJ ride seat, and definitely can't close the restraint, even in the modified seats. Dragon Challenge remains an impossible dream for now.

If he were taller his weight would be stretched out, and it might be possible. If he didn't have big legs, it might be possible to bring the restraint on FJ down a bit more; but the way he is built means the tops of his legs get in the way along with his chest and belly.

I hope that helps. From watching DH deal with this, and he's a very very emotional guy (see the pituitary tumor mention above...it creates a hormone that increases emotions), it seems that it's best to take the feelings out of it, see if you can fit in the test seats, and try to make the best of the day if you can't. DH still loves Universal even though he can't yet ride any of the big rides, so it's still possible to enjoy yourself even without those rides.

And no one knows how the attractions in Diagon Alley are going to be.

Nor do we know exactly when they will open.

Thanks for the help i guss we will just have to try. My wife is 5 2 and is 250 that was the reason for the question

thanks

I'm hearing rumblings of June 1 for softs. Derek Burgan (via twitter) is one source who has stated so. Derek has contributed here with photos for the dining page and seems like a really nice guy. Of course, this is just a rumour at this time. (not a rumour that Derek is a nice guy but about the soft opening date!)

This is about the same as my best friend, we've gone a few times. I agree that it'll depend on distribution & to try test seats. My friend carries it in her chest and hip areas and had to sit in an outer (modified) seat to get the harness to come down all the way, was a little tight in those areas, but was able to ride fine. (Forbidden Journey, we didn't try Dragon b/c we don't like those kind of coasters). There's a hump in between your legs in the seat that takes up space, so that's another part of the reason legs get pushed in the way of the restraint.

We also did the "silly picture" scene to test the seats for the Mummy ride, then just started doing photos at all the test seats b/c those shots turned out to be our favorites :)

There's been internal documents which show they are shooting for May 20th for the start of technical rehearsals and June 1st for the first full day soft openings. Like Florida weather itself, I'm sure even those dates are fluid but a lot of other information points to that being a reasonable date. Many TMs that are transferring over to retail and restaurants in Diagon Alley start training in the next couple weeks for example, the timeline adds up to softs a month later. Etc.

Keep us posted! We did soft openings around that time for Wizarding World and it was fantastic.

My husband is 6'3 and 275 pounds. He does not fit in the test seat outside but does fit in the test seat inside. I guess the inside seat is the modified one. The inside seat is by the chicken exit and in the dark so less embarrassment if you do not fit. It is also off to the side so not many people are paying attention.

Just to let people know not to be embarrassed testing seats. It's not like there are tons of people standing around waiting to crack jokes at you or a secret game show/bloopers. Go have fun, besides you will most likely never see anyone in the parks again. Unless you visit all the time. As they say, vacation like YOU mean it!
