Hi everyone,
So i had a question about the best way to work in a few rides at California adventures at a day based mostly at just the disneyland park. I'm taking my mother who has never been to Disney of any kind before so we want to spend the majority of the time at Disneyland. However i can't miss doing 2 of my favourite rides, Tower of Terror and Soarin'. If we buy the 2 park 1 day pass what would be the best time to head over to California Adventures to do those rides. I'm definitely going to be a single rider of Tower of Terror but hopefully with some convincing i can get my mum on Soarin. Also anyone got any convincing tips i can use to get her on soarin'!!!
Thanks everyone,
(oh and if it makes a difference we'll be at the parks Saturday 2nd July (which i hear is an AP blackout day, and we're staying offsite at Candycane inn and planning to do Fantasmic Dessert package thing at DIsney in the evening so that time would be out.)

If you get to DL and are there for opening 8 am. You can ride about 4 attractions and get 2 FPs for later, and leave at 9:30. Start in Adventureland, when you leave go to DCA. At 9:30 you can go into DCA and ride Soarin and get a FP if you want to ride twice the rest of DCA will open at 10am. Also won't you want to ride Toy Story Midway Mania, if so ride that next.

Doing this lets you hit the opening at two parks in the same day.

My grandmother absolutely loved Soarin' when she came with us to Disneylamd a few years back. as long as there are no issues with things like fear of heights she should be fine with it.

Thanks for those tips. I have been on Soarin at WDW before but i thought the more encouraging things i can come up with the more likely she is to ride it! I know she'll love it once she's on the ride!

What strategy would you use if DL and DCA both open at 10AM?

I'm confused to which day you are going... June 2nd is a Thursday... You said Saturday which would be June 4th. The difference on if it is a thursday or saturday (especially this one) will make a big difference

Just to let you know that there's no Single Rider line for ToT, but the stand-by line doesn't usually get to be more than 30 min until early afternoon. As long as you ride in the morning, you should be fine.

What rides? How many days?

In general ALWAYS start your day at DL & tour for 1.5 - 3 hours (& pick up min. 3 FPs for later use) prior to hopping to DCA. DL's 8-10 slow loaders (w/o FPs) are always best ridden the first two hours of the day (or the last 1/2 hour if open late). Plus it's best to nab 2-3 FPs early at DL.

This would be the case no matter when DL opens. (only variation is when you're trying to nab WOC FPs & need to be in DCA at 10am)

As smile4stamps said, there is a big difference between whether you're going on Thursday the 2nd or Saturday the 4th. The new Little Mermaid and Star Tours rides are slated to open on Friday the 3rd, which will mean much heavier crowds that weekend than normal. If you are indeed going on Saturday the 4th, you might have to adjust your touring plan.

sorry - my mistake. I'd meant to write 2nd July (not June), i edited it to fix the error in my orignal post. Thanks for all the great advice! So no single rider line for ToT but is there one for soarin' if i don't manage to convince my Mum to ride? I keep telling her how gentle it is. And she isn't afraid of heights so i'm sure she'd be fine.

Also are you allowed more than 1 fastpass at a time at disneyland. I thought you had to get one and use it first before you can get another, am i wrong?

Correct, no Single Rider for TOT, but yes for Soarin'.

You can't get another FP until the time window on your current FP has come up, OR for two hours, whichever comes first. For example, if you get a FP for Space Mountain at 10:00 AM that says to return at 4:00 PM, you can get another FP at 12:00 noon even though you can't use your Space FP until 4:00 PM. The good thing is that Disneyland and California Adventure are not connected, so you can have one FP at Disneyland that isn't up until noon, but then walk over to California Adventure and get another one right away. FP's work the same way at both parks. Roger Rabbit is an exception because it is not connected to the rest of the parks, and the World of Color FP is not connected to anything either.

I think you mom will love Soarin'. I know I always thought my mom would have (she passed away last year before I was able to take her). I am the ultimate scaredy-cat, and won't go on many rides that people think are staples of a Disneyland experience--but Soarin is my favorite ride of all time! I have a desperate fear of heights, but this ride is not scary at all to me. It almost feels like a spa-relaxation experience. I think your mom will feel the same way.

Hope it all goes well, Please come back after you have taken her and tell us all about your trip!
